He piloted the B-17 Flying Fortress for the Army Air Corps during World War II. He spent three years in a German prisoner of war camp. He graduated from San Angelo High School where he set the national track record in the 220 yards. He attended Texas A&M University and played on the 1939 national championship football team. He was a rancher and had served as director and honorary director of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He was past president of Panhandle Livestock Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne Mansfield on July 7, 1997. Lineman on Feb. 2, 1946, at Philadelphia. She had been an Amarillo resident since 1956. She was former president of St. Laurence Alter Society and also volunteered for St. Laurence School as a teacher's assistant. She was president of T.O.P.S. Stuart, 69, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Clayton Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Waugh, pastor of Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Mrs. Stuart was born in Marathon, Texas, April 8, 1932, to Pat McKinney and Vera Gulihur McKinney. She married Raymond I. Stuart on Dec. 22, 1947, at San Angelo, Texas. She grew up in a ranching family, and she and Raymond worked on several ranches in New Mexico and Texas. They have lived in Texas's Big Bend area; El Paso, Texas; Silver City; Nara Visa; Albert; Borger, Texas; Hereford, Texas; and Skellytown, Texas. After quitting school at age 15, Mrs. Stuart received her G.E.D. in 1969. After raising her family and working in several other occupations, she began college at Frank Phillips Junior College at Borger in 1980. Three years later, she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from West Texas State University. She began her teaching career for White Deer Independent School District at Skellytown Elementary in fall 1984, and retired in December 2000. She was more than a teacher to her students and gave generously and lovingly. She was a member of Texas Teachers Association and served on several committees at White Deer ISD. Her courage and strength helped her raise her family and survive an 8 year battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Sadie Jo McKinney; and four nephews, Ted Clayton, Tommy James, Pat Lester and Ronnie Wayne Henderson. Freeman was born March 16, 1915, at Chisholm, Minn., and grew up in Virginia, Minn. He married Betty Schultz on Nov. 30, 1939, at Minneapolis. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1936 and MacPhail College of Music in 1938. He taught school for two years before moving to Omaha, Neb. He attended Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Omaha, graduating in 1943. He served in churches in the following areas: Fairview and Trinity Churches in Omaha; Ketchikan, Alaska; Tacoma, Wash.; Roscoe, S.D.; Elbow Lake, Minn.; Tulsa and Hominy in Oklahoma; Spearman and finally in Dimmitt from 1981-1995. After retirement, he continued to be active in the community. He was to be honored Dec. 16 as a pastor emeritus. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan Gose of Huron, S.D., Sally Ortiz of Denver and Carol Walker of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Peter Freeman of Wildomar, Calif., and Paul Freeman of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a retired registered nurse, having been the director of nurses for several area hospitals and a nurse for the Hereford School System. She served with the American Red Cross in baby-sitting and child care programs. She served on the committee with the Texas Panhandle Mental Health Authority; was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Los Cibolos Chapter; and was a member of Fellowship of Believers Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
