LaFever SUNRAY - W.J. "Red" LaFever, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunray Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Hilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. LaFever had been a Moore County resident since 1944. He was a veteran of the Army. He was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Hardeman County. He married Dorothy Blackman on May 8, 1937, in Eldorado, Okla. He was a deputy sheriff for Moore County for 23 years and was a member of Sunray Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998. Survivors include two daughters, LaVerne Silor and husband, Mike, of Amarillo and Sharon Gill and husband, Steve, of Sunray; a brother, H.L. LaFever of Lubbock; two grandsons, Brian Gill of Sunray and Wes Gill of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Kelli Conley and Jenny Gill both of Amarillo; and two great-granddaughters, Katy Silor of Amarillo and Bethany Garland of Sunray. The family will be at 112 W. Fourth in Sunray. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, activity fund, 302 E. Second, Dumas, TX 79029. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 22, 2001 R.D. Hicks HEREFORD - R.D. "Donald" Hicks, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church of Hereford with Dr. Tom Fuller, pastor, and Roger Morris of Vega officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery at Hereford by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Hicks served as Deaf Smith County Commissioner, past "Boss Lion" of the Hereford Lions Club and president of Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of a Deaf Smith County Pioneer Family. He married Mildred Stewart on Aug. 27, 1939, in Clovis, N.M. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmo Hicks, in December 2000. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a son, Mark Hicks of Hereford; two sisters, Ida Belle Hawkins of Tulia and Mary Beth Smits of Soap Lake, Wash.; a brother, Bob Hicks of Hereford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Kings Manor/Westgate in Hereford or Deaf Smith 4-H/FFA Booster Club. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt with the Rev. Rusty Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Burnam attended schools in Dimmitt. She worked at Parson's Drug for many years. Ellen Lee Powell WHEELER - Ellen Lee Powell, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Mobeetie with the Rev. Robert Meller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mobeetie Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Powell was born Dec. 2, 1910, to Richard Marion and Thana Wood Ramsey. She married Levi Carrol "Bud" Powell on Jan. 27, 1940, on the Holbart Ranch in Canadian. She had lived in Wheeler County since 1946. She loved to garden, sew and cook. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980; and a granddaughter, Candace Powell, in June 2001. Survivors include a son, R.C. "Bob" Powell of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Cindy Powell and Connie Powell Cessnun both of Amarillo, James Parker of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Randy Parker of Florida; and five great-grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 21, 2001 Jamie Adams Sutton SPEARMAN - Jamie Adams Sutton, 29, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church of Spearman with the Rev. Todd Dyess officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. Sutton was a farmer and a welder. He attended First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Sutton in 1995. Survivors include his mother, Noreen Sutton of Spearman; his grandmother, Kathleen Sutton of Spearman; an uncle, Omar Sutton of Spearman; an aunt, Darleen Lasley of Stratford; and two cousins, Kristi Williams of Gruver and Brandon Sutton of Fort Worth. Lyons, 84, of Amarillo, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Lyons, a native of Portland, Ind., and past resident of Tallahassee, Fla., retired from the medical department of the Federal Correctional Institution in 1973. He was a member of the Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Kay Campbell of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Friday in BSA Hospice Rose Chapel with Bill Gehm, pastor of Grace Community, officiating. A second memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dengel & Son Mortuary at Ottawa, Kan. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Huhn was born in Kansas City, Kan. He had lived most of his life in Kansas. He had lived in Amarillo since 1986 and had been a soil conservationist for the federal government for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving during the Korean conflict. He was a Mason. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Black and husband, Steve, of Topeka, Kan., and Melinda Gaskill and husband, Lee, of Houston; 16 grandchildren; a companion of 16 years, Lois Gardner of Amarillo; and her children, Susan Stacy of San Jon, N.M., Teresa Cryer of Texhoma, Okla., Dollie Maddy of Canyon, Guy Gardner Jr. of Amarillo and Linden Gardner of Ulysses, Kan. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 22, 2001 Fred Carl Rennke Fred Carl Rennke, 71, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church with Mark Cattau, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Rennke was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He had lived in Amarillo for 36 years. He had been a meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Service from 1956 to 1985. He was a veteran in the Air Force until retiring in 1956. He married Betty Nelson on Oct. 3, 1952, in York, Neb. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronald Rennke and wife, Marleen, of Windsor, Colo., David Rennke and wife, Sandy, of Dallas and Bruce Rennke and wife, Silvia, of Denver; and five grandchildren, Wayne, Wendy, Codi, Kendall and Ninoska. The family will be at 5312 Alvarado. The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Lutheran Church School, 5005 I-40 W., Amarillo, TX 79106; or a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 22, 2001 New Mexico Jim Shiner Sr. CLOVIS, N.M. - Dr. Jim Shiner Sr., 64, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis by Muffley Funeral Home. The Rev. Shiner married Rebecca F. Starghill on July 9, 1957, in Albuquerque. He retired from the Air Force 27th tactical fighter wing as an NCO area ground equipment specialist after 20 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca; two sons, Jimmie B. Shiner Jr. of Portales and Cedric B. Shiner of Moreno Valley, Calif.; four daughters, Reba D. Baptist of Sacramento, Calif., Regina F. Hanson and Renita Z. Davis both of Clovis, and Ramona J.E. Ball of Laurel, Md.; his mother, Lavella Shiner of Goliad, Texas; two brothers, Robert Lee Shiner of Marshall, Texas, and McCampbell Shiner of Skidmore, Texas; three sisters, Anna B.
