Adams HEREFORD - Virginia B. Adams, 83, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Fuller officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery of Hereford by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Ms. Adams was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Lubbock, the daughter of Irwin and Robert Barr. She married Milton Adams on June 15, 1941, in Lubbock. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University and moved to Hereford in 1946. She was appointed the first president of the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce Women's Division in 1968. She later served as a member of the task force and beautification committee in which she was very instrumental in helping erect the "Windmill Park" next to the Santa Fe Railroad Depot. She was also named "Woman of the Year" in 1979 by the chamber of commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband; and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Bryan Adams of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Cody Adams of Austin and Jacy Adams of Christoval; three nephews; and a niece. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 23, 2001 Clayton Henry Cook VEGA - Clayton Henry Cook, 89, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Vega United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.B. Fowler and the Rev. Mark Phillips, former pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Vega by Vega Funeral Home. Mr. Cook was born in Moundridge, Kan., and had been a resident of Vega for more than 60 years. He was a farmer. He was a member and officer in Vega United Methodist Church for 57 years. He was a member of the Vega Kiwanis Club, where he held perfect attendance for 50 years and served as lieutenant governor in 1959 for the Texas/Oklahoma district. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 899. He played many roles in Amarillo Little Theatre productions and served on the board of the Amarillo Symphony as well as West Texas Fine Arts Committee. He was the Oldham County Democratic chairman for 50 years. He married Margery Maxine Manning on April 13, 1941, in Adrian. He was preceded in death by a son, Ron Cook, in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Marge; a daughter, Melanie Allred of Vega; two sons, Mike Cook of Amarillo and Larry Cook of Paducah; a brother, Warren Cook of Vega; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will be at 407 Eighth St. in Vega. The body will be available for viewing from noon to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. She was a retired nurses' aide with Parmer County Community Hospital in Friona. Mr. Belter was born in Bee House. He lived in Amarillo most of his life. He served in the Navy on the USS Duncan-DDR 874 destroyer during the Korean War. He retired from KFDA after 35 years of service. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 23, 2001 Val Hutchinson Jr., M.D. Val Hutchinson Jr., M.D., 66, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001. No services are planned at this time. Cremation and arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Dr. Hutchinson was born in San Antonio on Feb. 13, 1935, to Arthur and Louise Novak Hutchinson. He received his bachelor of science degree from Trinity University and his medical degree from the University of Texas-Galveston. He was a chemist for Dow Chemical from 1957 to 1959. He was an anesthesiologist in Amarillo from 1967 to 2001. He married Patricia Brown in 1957, and they moved to Amarillo in 1967. He was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Juaneva Lynn Gage of Borger and Valerie Kathleen Dixon of Boerne; a son, Val Arthur Hutchinson III of Tyler; his father, Arthur Hutchinson of San Antonio; his mother-in-law, Emma Brown of San Antonio; a brother, Lewis Gene Hutchinson of Corpus Christi; a sister, Idan Heim of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Kenneth Bryce Angenend serving in the Navy in London, Hallie Lynn Angenend of Amarillo, and Keely Heather Dixon and Keith Campbell Angus Dixon, both of Boerne; and numerous nephews and nieces. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 23, 2001 Mary Frances "Faffie" Irwin GEORGETOWN - Mary Frances "Faffie" Irwin, 91, formerly of Canyon, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon with the Rev. Donald Driskill officiating. Arrangements are by The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Irwin was born in Carlsbad, N.M., Territory, May 13, 1910, to John F. and Mattie V. Dunaway. The family moved to Canyon where she grew up. She lived in Amarillo and Clarendon before moving to Georgetown in 1997. Affectionately known as Memo to her grandchildren, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and fishing - skills she taught to her children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful lady with lovely blue eyes. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest gift was the love she instilled in everyone in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; a brother; and six sisters. Survivors include a son, Bill Irwin and wife, Celia, of Amarillo; two daughters, Joan Lawrence and husband, David, of Georgetown and Sandra Driskill and husband, Donald, of Albany, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Murphy CANYON LAKE - Bill C. Murphy, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Holly Hills Memorial Park at Granbury. Arrangements are by Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home of Canyon Lake. Mr. Murphy was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Runnels County to Kirk Murphy and Mattie Ellen Carter Murphy. He later married Norma Richards Murphy on Oct. 10, 1948, at the Pastor Valley View Baptist Church in Runnels County. He served in the Navy as a seaman first class during World War II. He was a farmer by trade and was a Baptist by faith. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Startzville and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His family will always remember him best for farming the earth from beginning to end. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, on March 4, 1978. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery of Pampa with the Rev. Jimmy Fox, minister of Martin Road Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Berry was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Lakeview, Hall County. He was a Pampa resident before moving to Howardwick in 1981. He was a lab technician for Cabot Corporation in Pampa for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Clarendon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7782. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alva Jean Gore Berry in 1977; a second wife, Jimmie Nell Glick Berry in 1995; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Berry in 1948 and Shelia Beth Berry in 1983; and a son, Douglas Elden Berry in 1978. Survivors include a sister, Frankie Jean Herman of Miami; two granddaughters, Cynthia Hewett of Clarendon and Lisa Howell of La Pryor; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Patsy Hill of Plainview. Larry Burton and the Rev. Deborah Nissen officiating. Burial will be in Old Glory Cemetery by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors of Haskell. Mr. Taylor was born Nov. 16, 1948, in Olney. He received his degree in music from San Angelo State University and was a band teacher in the Aspermont, Crowell and Spur school systems. He married Karla Hertel on Sept. 4, 1993, in Sagerton. He was a very good teacher and a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his father, C.L. Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Karla; two daughters, Charlotte Morris of Bellaire and Misty Fritzler and husband, Bob, of Lewisville; two sons, Craig Smith and wife, Annette, of Old Glory, and Will Smith of Rule; his mother, Robin Taylor of Canyon; a sister, Jean Parker and husband, Don, of Happy; a grandchild, Del Fritzler of Lewisville; and all of the kids he taught.
