Burial was in the Garden of Peace at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Purser married Bessie Winona Oakley April 15, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. He moved from Dallas to Amarillo in 1947. He earned a master's degree in education from West Texas State University of Canyon. He taught at Sunrise and Eastridge Elementary schools, retiring from Amarillo Independent School District in 1993. Prior to teaching, he worked for Santa Fe Railway. He was a member of Ambassadors Sunday school class and taught Wesley Comrades Sunday school class for 18 years. He sang in the choir for 45 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Teresa Purser Stone of Amarillo and Deborah Purser Bandy of San Ramon, Calif.; a sister, Frankie Gates of Denton; and five grandchildren. Hodge Robert H. "Bob" Hodge, 77, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Posey, of Memphis, and Mark Lanier, of Houston, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Hodge was born to Edna Hart Hodge and Claude Johnson Hodge on July 10, 1923, in Alfalfa, Okla. At the age of 21, Mr, Hodge purchased a Watkins dealership and was recognized as the highest Watkins sales achiever for two consecutive years. In 1947, he became employed by Crabtree Drug in Mountain View, Okla., primarily as a refrigerator salesman. Again, Mr. Hodge was recognized for achieving high sales goals and was honored as the top salesman in the United States for Frigidaire. During his first year at Crabtree Drug, Mr. Hodge sold 325 Frigidaire refrigerators, which is the equivalent of five boxcar loads. In 1951, Mr. Hodge purchased Crabtree Drug. He moved to Amarillo in May of 1957 and becan working for Don McMillen Ford. Mr. Hodge then became employed by Lincoln Mercury in Amarillo and served as the sales and general manager for 25 years. In 1989, Mr. Hodge joined Maxor National Pharmacy Services Corp. as vice president of marketing for the Institutional Pharmacy Division and was employed there at the time of his death. He was a 3rd Degree Mason. Mr. Hodge married Dolores Dool on Nov. 19, 1966, at Amarillo. Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Hodge. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry H. Hodge of Amarillo; a daughter, Gailene McLemore of Waxahachie; a stepson, Larry Dool; three sisters, Lavon Bennett of Carnegie, Okla., Helen Campbell of Amarillo and Betty Arthur of Clinton, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Eddie Bradley, Noel Bruce, Eddie Gonzales, Glenn McMennemy, Randall Orcutt and Maurice Schooler. Honorary pallbearers are Del Cox, Don Denny, Billy Pat Latimer, James McKinzie, J.D. Mouw, 88, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 22, 2001. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Restlawn Cemetery at Liberal, Kan. Mrs. Mouw was born in Arlington, Kan. She moved to Texline in 1929 and to Amarillo in 1935. She was a waitress and a dental assistant in Amarillo until she married Neal W. Mouw. They relocated to Sisseton, S.D. After her husband's death in 1984, she moved back to Amarillo. Survivors include a stepson, James W. Mouw of Salem, S.C.; three brothers, Turner Black of Blackwell, Okla., Ralph Black of Liberal, Kan., and Rodney Black of Silver City, N.M.; a sister, Mary Ellen Cook of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Lt. Rusty Dickerson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Directors. Mr. Merritt, born in Castro County, attended Hart and Dimmitt schools. He was in the Air Force during World War II, serving in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He earned the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the Philippines Liberation Ribbons, and the Good Conduct and Victory medals. He served for nine years on the Dimmitt School Board. He served four years on the Dimmitt Agri Industries board and was a charter member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. Mr. Merritt married Sue Sheffy on Feb. 8, 1948, in Dimmitt. John and Sue are featured in the Historical Encyclopedia of Texas published by the Texas Historical Institute. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and by three sisters. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lint Merritt of Dimmitt and Johnny Merritt of Amarillo; two daughters, Suzanne Lunt of Sunray and Amy Parsons of Lubbock; two brothers, Glenn Merritt of Hart and Claude Merritt of Lamar, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught at Yucca Junior High School for 11 years. Arrangements were by Greenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Barker was born Aug. 23, 1914, in Dublin. He had lived in Amarillo for 35 years before moving to Fort Worth. He was a cabinet maker. He was a member of South Hills Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mable, 79, in 1995. He died at home after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Survivors include two sons, Richard Barker of Bedford and John Barker of Coppell; a daughter, Susan Georges of Fort Worth; a sister, Eva Ward of Anadarko, Okla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
