Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Foster, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Truitt was born Oct. 28, 1943, in Miami, Fla. He was a Dumas resident for the past two years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas. He was a wallpaper hanger. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Lee Truitt; and two sisters, Rose Lee Truitt and Keitha Jean Vanmeter. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Lea Truitt of Phoenix City, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Shirl McVay of Phoenix City; two sisters, Mary Ann Davis of Dumas, and Judy Ann Smiley of Kennewick, Wash.; a brother, Robert Truitt of Phoenix City; a grandson, Jonathan Collins of Phoenix City; a granddaughter, Lauvenia Winningham of Phoenix City; four step-grandchildren; and three aunts, all of Alabama. Travis Curry of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cheek was born June 4, 1915, at Alabama. She married Dennis Leonard "D.L." Cheek on Aug. 8, 1938, at Montague County. She is survived by several nephews and nieces. Additional services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel at Tulia with Trey Morgan, pastor of Central Church of Christ, officiating. She was a homemaker. She married Donald L. Childress on April 11, 1964, at Farmers Branch. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Don Childress Jr. of Ladonia and Johnny Dale Childress of Dallas; two daughters, Lorraine Farwell of Tulia and Susan Blodgett of Dublin, Ireland; a brother, James Lewis of Garland; four sisters, Josephine Alexander of Trenton, Doris Loveday of Farmers Branch, Della Bass of Carrollton and Mary Ann Keller of Krum; and eight grandchildren. Marie Watson LEFORS - O. Marie Watson, 66, died Friday, June 22, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Colonial Chapel at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors with the Rev. Lewis Ellis, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery at El Paso. Mrs. Watson was born Sept. 26, 1934, at Pampa. She married Lt. Col. Roger L. "Bill" Watson June 18, 1955, at Lefors. Before settling in Barnwell, S.C., they lived in Canyon; Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; Tehran, Iran; and Fort Benning, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 27, 1990; and her father, Raymond McPherson, in 1998. In 1998, she returned to Lefors. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include three sons, Roger Watson of Wagner, S.C., and Steven Watson and Kevin Watson, both of Aiken, S.C.; her mother, Mildred McPherson of Lefors; and five grandchildren. Fifth Ave. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery. Mr. Mendez moved to Amarillo 20 years ago from Mexico. He was a retired auto mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Gabian Mendez; two daughters, Mirna Mendez and Griselda Mendez, both of Amarillo; a son, Hector Mendez of Amarillo; a sister, Maria Munoz of Mexico; a brother, Ramon Mendez of Mexico; two grandchildren, Alexandria and Jazsmine, both of Amarillo; and godson, Alexander Lopez of Amarillo. Georgia St. Mr. Passmore married Virginia Deane Moore in 1975 at Dumas. He was a longtime fence contractor in Amarillo. His wife died Nov. 24, 2000. Survivors include three stepsons, Lee Moore of Dalhart, Lonnie Moore of Amarillo and Joe Moore of Tyler; and 11 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. Amarillo Globe-News June 25, 2001 Herschel L. Allen Herschel L. Allen, 73, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pioneer Chapel at N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Ray McDowell of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Cremation was by the funeral home. Mr. Allen was born and raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945. After serving with the Navy during World War II, he graduated from West Texas State University and taught school in the Amarillo area for three years. He received a master's degree from the University of Chicago and then worked for the state of Illinois for a number of years as Chief of Child Welfare. In 1975 he returned to Amarillo and worked for Texas State Technical College as Financial Aid Director before retiring in 1995. He married Margaret Joynt on Sept. 11, 1954, at Cadillac, Mich. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Allen of Canyon and Scott Allen of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Parker of Lees Summit, Mo.; a grandson, Jason Vance of Canyon; and a great-grandson, Jason Vance Jr., of Canyon. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice. The body will not be available for viewing. Mark Zimmerman, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Graf was born in Turtle Lake, N.D. He served with the Navy during World War II. In 1947, he moved to Amarillo from Bismarck, N.D. A retired truck driver, he was a member of the American Legion and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He married Virginia Mitchell on Dec. 20, 1947, at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Curtis Graf of Irving and Larry Graf and Randy Graf, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Jan Moormann of Amarillo; seven sisters, Lydia Bossart, Hilda Alm and Lorentine Terry, all of Bismarck, Martha Plummer of Lincoln, Neb., and Amelia Plinies, Elsie Brons and Irene Anderson, all of Lynnwood, Wash.; and two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Graf of Bismarck and Myrtle Graf of Stockton, Calif. Burial will be in the family plot at Plain Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mrs. Yates was born Sept. 15, 1918, at Francesville, Ind. She had lived in the Forrest Community since 1940. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Rush and Diana Rush, both of Forrest; three sisters, Alice Helfrich of Las Cruces, Mavis Nance of Las Vegas and Donna Rains of Pahrump, Nev.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday in Friendship Village Health Care Center at Bloomington. Private burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Minnesota at Edina. Ms. Epperson was a former resident of La Grange, Ill., and Amarillo. Survivors include a son, James; a daughter, Suzanne Pope; a brother, Robert J. Epperson of Waco, Texas; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
