Amarillo Daily News, April 26, 2001 Woodrow Wilson Wood WELLINGTON - Woodrow Wilson Wood, 82, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Pogue, retired Baptist minister of Valley Mills, and the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson was born in the Fresno community of Collingsworth County on May 7, 1918, to Robert L. Wood and Array Brown Wood. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1935. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was a Collingsworth County commissioner for eight years. He also was former director of the Farm Bureau, the Co-op Gin, the Wellington Cemetery Association and the Federal Land Bank. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Mr. Wilson married Ellen Williams in 1935 at Hollis, Okla. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Duncan, in 1993; and by five brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Farris Wood and Joe Wood, both of Wellington; a brother, Jack Wood of Fredericksburg; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery of Borger with Dale Meadows, minister associated with Skellytown Church of Christ, officiating. Mrs. Horst was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Olpe, Kan. She married William E. "Bill" Horst on July 20, 1940, in Madison, Kan. She had been a resident of Skellytown since 1959, moving from Lamont, Kan. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Skellytown and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Madison. Mrs. Horst was member of the Skellytown Church of Christ. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Terrie Horst of Pampa; a daughter and son-inlaw, Jeraldine and Melvin G. Grant of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Berry was born in Houston on Nov. 13, 1945, to H.A. and Evelyn G. Berry. He grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School. He attended West Texas State University and graduated from the University of Texas, where he also attended law school. Mr. Berry taught school in Indian villages in Alaska. He was a bush pilot, a commercial salmon fisherman and an aide to the Alaska legislature. In 1988, Mr. Berry returned to Amarillo where he studied agriculture and animal husbandry at West Texas A&M University. He was president of Berry Farm and Ranch. He married Mary Louise "Lou" Kibbey in 1992 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Christopher M. Berry of Austin; a sister, Jeanie Berry Henry of Juneau, Alaska; a brother, Randy Berry of Austin; an aunt, Genevieve G. Mr. Claxton served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from the Santa Fe Railway after 35 years of service. Mr. Mitchell was born and raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1972. He was a hunting and fishing guide in Eagle Nest, N.M., for several years. After moving back to Amarillo he later joined the Boilermakers Union Local No. 531. He had lived in Jericho since 1998. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Mr. Altom had been a resident of Goodwell since 1972. He was engaged in welding the majority of his working life. Amarillo Daily News, April 26, 2001 Elsewhere Edith M. Wilson GLENDALE, Calif. - Edith M. Wilson, formerly of Pampa, Texas, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Glendora. Services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Mrs. Wilson moved to Pampa from California in 1963. She married Claude Wilson on Sept. 30, 1963. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pampa for more than 30 years. She had many friends there. She was a volunteer at the Pampa Senior Center for 20 years. She lived in Pampa until 1993, when she moved to Canyon, Texas. She moved to Glendale in 1995. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Wilson, in January 1995; and by a son, William Coker, in April 1995. Survivors include a son, Don Wilson and his wife, Paula, of Amarillo; a very special daughter-in-law, Maude Hanna of Glendora; four grandchildren, John and Linda Benson of La Crescenta, Jim Coker of West Hills, David and Brenda Bass of Lubbock, Texas, and Terry and Karen York of Amarillo; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She touched the hearts of so many people with her loving and caring ways. She never met a stranger and was a true lover of life.
