Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Carter Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Michael DeVaughn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Austin, the youngest child of Albert and Carrie O'Neal, was born in Ladonia. Her family moved to Amarillo when she was an infant so she considered herself a lifetime Amarillo resident. She attended schools in Amarillo and was a retired licensed vocational nurse. She also was a part-time Avon representative. Her community involvement included volunteerism at Hilltop and Carver schools, Girl Scout and Boy Scout activities and Amarillo Child Care Association. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation. Survivors include four daughters, Carrie, Gwen, Bobbie and Valree; a son, Albert; a stepdaughter, Ollie Jean; a stepson, Clifford Jr.; a brother-in-law, Cleveland Austin; a grandson, Edmond Sorel; two step-grandsons, Samuel Bowe and Lando Brown; four step-granddaughters, Patricia Johnson, Stephany Colina, Linda Bowe and Marcelle Bowe; and a cousin, Estella McCreary. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead, senior pastor, and Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Military rites by D.A.V. Chapter 26. Mr. Tupin was born in Wilson, Okla., and had been a resident of Amarillo for most of his life. He worked in construction for seven years and then for the Texaco Refinery for 30 years. He was an elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. He was a five-year member and chairman of the Amarillo Child Care Organization and a three-year member and building supervisor for Habitat for Humanity in Amarillo. He was a member of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, Buchanan Street School Alumni Association and had served on the Llano Cemetery Board of Directors. He served with the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Jean Tupin, on Feb. 5, 1998. Survivors include two sons, Arthur Tupin and Randy Tupin, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Nan Windsor of Port Arthur and Loraine Burleson of Amarillo; two grandsons; and five granddaughters. Before working at the VA, she was employed at Amarillo Air Force Base. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
