Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Quanah Memorial Park at Quanah with the Rev. John Spangler, minister of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Price-Jackson Funeral Home of Quanah. Mr. Jones was born May 19, 1918, in Avery, the son of the late Lonnie and Ethel (Hamrick) Jones. He married Lucy Oxendine on June 15, 1965, in Weatherford. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Ruffin of Burleson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Don Boren, minister of Friona United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. White, a retired carpenter, had lived in Friona since 1929. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Friona. Survivors include a daughter, Marie Hughlett of Dallas; three sons, Jimmy White of Fort Towson, Okla., Teddy White of Friona and Max White of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Claude, and Dr. Gerald Aalbers, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Private burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home Armstrong Chapel of Claude. John was a member of Claude United Methodist Church. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2001 Horace Holliman - Horace Holliman, 80, died Thursday, July 26, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Elvis Pitts, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, and the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Holliman was born Sept. 2, 1920, to William Horace and Alcie Billingsley Holliman, in Vernon. Horace came to Collingsworth County in 1924 and attended school in Arlie, Crossroads, and Wellington. Horace married Cathern Mae Scott on Oct. 16, 1935, in Hollis, Okla. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Bowie during World War II. Horace worked as a farmer from 1937 until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Glynn Moore Post No. 6439. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Inez Dent; and by a brother, Zeblun Holliman. Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alcie and Bill Estes of Vernon and Rebecca and Ralph Owens of Wellington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Horace Bo and Patricia Holliman of Amarillo and De and Dottie Holliman of Panhandle; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Wellington Cemetery Association. He was a faithful son, wonderful husband, and father. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2001 Milton Adams - Dr. Milton Adams, 83, died Thursday, July 26, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Fuller officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Dr. Adams was born May 16, 1918, in Sweetwater, the son of Surrey Henry and Sylvia Adams. He married Virginia Barr on June 15, 1941, in Lubbock. He served as lieutenant J.G. in the Navy during World War II. Dr. Adams graduated from Northern Illinois with a degree in optometry. In 1948, he moved to Hereford and started his business in optometry. For more than 45 years, Dr. Adams had been an extremely active member of the community. He was a scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1955 for scouting. He also served as commissioner, district committeeman, neighborhood commissioner and on the Boy Scouts of America Council. Dr. Adams served as a district governor and international director of the Hereford Toastmasters. He was a leader of the Civil Air Patrol and an American Legion Commander. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He also served on the board of Girlstown, U.S.A. and was chairman of the Sight Conservation Committee. "Doc" Adams, as he was called by many, was best known for his participation in the Hereford Lion's Club. He served as president of the club in 1970 and 1971 and attended three international conventions. In 1995, he was voted Hereford Citizen of the Year. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the Missions board. He also was chairman of the building committee for San Jose Methodist Church and a member of the church's official board. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a son, Bryan Adams of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Cody Adams of Austin and Jacy Adams of Christoval; and half brothers. Hoff, 78, died Thursday, July 26, 2001. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger. Burial will be in the Garden of Love by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hoff was born in Bartlesville, Okla. She had been a Borger resident since 1926 until the last few years. Wilbourn of Hillsboro, Ill.; and seven grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2001 New Mexico R.B. Boney CLOVIS, N.M. - R.B. Boney, 65, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Lubbock, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis. Mr. Boney began his law enforcement career in 1970 as a Curry County deputy and became sheriff in 1978. After serving as sheriff for two years, he continued to serve Curry County as a deputy and later as an investigator for the State of New Mexico Department of Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Janice Boney of Clovis; a son, Russell Brent Boney of Clovis; a daughter, Debbie Boney of Clovis; a brother, Lloyd Boney of Grants; a sister, Donna Faye Leach of Albuquerque; and two grandchildren. Cook Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in Bell Avenue Chapel of Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., with Alvin Howard and Stew Bryant officiating. Cremation was by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors and Memorial Park Crematory. Mr. Cook was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Cement, Okla. He worked as a supervisor in the precious metals division for Asarco. He retired in August of 2000 after 32 years of work. He was a veteran of the Navy. Eurbia enjoyed being out of doors and having a good time. He belonged to the Asarco Poker Club. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammie Bellar in August 2000. Survivors include his wife, Phala Costa Cook; a son, Kristopher Lee Costa of Port Richey, Fla.; three daughters, Kelly Cook of Amarillo, Kim and her husband, Chuck Casey, of Port Richey and Michelle and her husband, Robert Chandler, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Sue and her husband, Paul Garcia, of Guymon, Okla., and Tommie Hicks of Amarillo; and two granddaughters, Krystan and Torrie Chandler. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dryden Community Church, five miles east of Hollis, Okla., with the Rev. Gordon Cox, pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will be in Dryden Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Gamble was born in Hollis to Calvin Hilton Byrd and Zella Cansler Byrd on Oct. 9, 1922. She completed high school at Arnett. She married Arzie Gamble at Hollis in 1937. Mrs. Gamble lived in Hollis until 1963, when she moved to Hamlin. She moved to Canyon in 1998. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, gardening and tending to her flowers. Mrs. Gamble was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; and by a son, Gary Gamble, in 1994. Survivors include a son, Danny Gamble of Canyon; four grandchildren, Michael Gamble of Amarillo, Renee Brown of Canyon, Lori Scott of Edmond, Okla., and Lisa Lofton of San Antonio; and nine great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2001 Oklahoma Fred Venton Tucker KENTON, Okla. - Fred Venton Tucker, 93, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Stratford, Texas. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT today in Kenton Community Building (old schoolhouse) with John Henley officiating. Burial will be in Kenton Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mr. Tucker was a master craftsman, hunter, blacksmith and a lifelong student. He also was a cattleman and farmer. Survivors include a son, Freddie Vogel Tucker of Kenton; a daughter, Linda Coon of Los Altos, Calif.; a stepson, Dana Leas Jr. of Moore; a stepdaughter, Danelle Hall of Oklahoma City; three stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church at Tool with Dr. Rocky Weatherford officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery by Corley Funeral Home of Corsicana. Mr. Summers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tool, where he served as a deacon. He retired from the American National Bank in Amarillo and moved to Tool. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Lorene Summers of Corsicana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Reba and Richard Archer of Grand Prairie and Barbara and Jack French of Weatherford; a sister, Cassie Ingham of Dallas; five grandsons, Clint Archer and Jamie French, both of Arlington, Zane Archer of Grand Prairie, Jerry French of Burleson and Russell French of Loraine; a granddaughter, Karen Galloway of Fort Worth; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Josh was born Oct. 7, 1984, in Amarillo and lived in Irving for the past 14 years. He was a junior at Winfree Academy. Survivors include his father, Carl Dickey of Irving; his mother, Jean Ann Butler of Georgia; two sisters, Jami Dickey and Lori Dickey, both of Irving; and grandparents, Harold and Myrna Dickey of Tulia.
