Mrs. Rodriguez was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Stanley, N.M. She had been a resident of Pampa for the past 36 years. She retired from Citizens Bank and Trust as a bank teller in 1995. She was a hospice volunteer. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and St. Vincent's Ladies Council. The former Maylan Denton married Patrick Joseph Abbananto on June 3, 1942, in Crestview, Fla. They served in churches at Oklahoma City, Fritch, Snyder and Childress. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, where she played the piano and taught Sunday school. She was a bank teller and loan officer in Colorado and Dumas for 24 years. She was a Dumas resident for the past 16 years. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Grant, in 1997. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Donald Lapp of Canton, Ohio, Ronald Lapp of Greeley and Timothy Lapp of Brighton, Colo.; a brother, Floyd Leroy Scofield of Evans, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lindsey was born May 25, 1922, in Myrtle Springs. She married E.H. "Scatters" Lindsey on Sept. 11, 1946, in Memphis. Survivors include a son, Barry D. Mr. Patterson served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Guam, New Guinea and the Philippines. He graduated from Dodson High School in 1936. He was born in Batesville, Ark., and came to Dodson in 1924. Mr. Patterson was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He moved to Clarendon in 1991 to be near family. He was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 1993, after 25 years. Hughes St. Sister Mildred Templeton Powell entered into rest on Saturday, June 23, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Virgil and Lula Templeton. She was born in Idabel, Okla., where she attended public school. The family moved to Wellington where she graduated from Booker T. Washington School. Later, she moved to Amarillo in 1951, where she met and married Deacon Leon Powell on May 11, 1951. Together, they raised one son, Richard Darden. She was saved at the age of 9 years in Idabel, Okla., under Elder Williams. Upon moving to Amarillo, she joined the Langston Memorial C.O.G.I.C., where she served faithfully until her illness. She served as teacher of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) and the adult women Sunday school class. She also served as president of the Prayer and Bible Bond. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, three sisters and three brothers. Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard Darden of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Katherine Pyles of Pueblo, Colo.; a granddaughter, Angelia Darden Shoultz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a great-grandson, Richard Leon Shoultz of Cedar Rapids; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gutierrez had lived in Amarillo for the past 11 years. He was a welder by trade. She was born June 8, 1926, in Duke, Okla. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Jimmie D. and Charlene Lane of Conroe, Marvin J. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Edwards was born in Fort Towson, Okla., and was raised in Quanah. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1942. Mr. Edwards married Becky Wilson on May 17, 1997, in Carlsbad, N.M. He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He owned and operated auto detail shops in Amarillo for many years. Mr. Edwards also was a truck driver. At the time of his death, he worked for J. Lee Milligan Construction. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jay Edwards of Amarillo; two daughters, Tammy Edwards of Amarillo and Kim Brown of Panama City, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Coats of Enid, Okla.; a stepson, Mike Burkhalter of Wellington; and nine grandchildren. Private burial at Llano Cemetery. Mr. Norman was born and raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1938. Mr. Norman married Beverly Ann Lumpkin in 1940. She preceded him in death in 2000. He served on active duty in the Coast Guard from 1941 through 1945. Mr. Norman worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 41 years. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. He also was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Paul Norman. Survivors include three sons, M. Taylor Norman Jr. of Amarillo, Gary Dale Norman of Santa Elena, Venezuela and Barry Lumpkin Norman of Austin; two brothers, Edward Earl Norman and J. Robert Norman, both of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Prichard was born on May 23, 1920, to James and Frances Prichard in Franklin. He graduated from Elida High School in Elida, N.M. He married Mary Lee Ray in Portales, N.M., on June 22, 1941. They lived in Portales, N.M., and Hereford before moving to Canyon in 1955. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Prichard was preceded in death by two infant sons, James Arnold Prichard and Donald Edward Prichard; and by a daughter, Deana Norman. Survivors include his wife; a son, Stan Prichard of Dallas; and a grandson, Jason A. Norman of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, June 27, 2001 Naomi Pearl Cunningham Naomi Pearl Wharton Cunningham, 87, of Canyon, died Monday, June 25, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Andrew Cunningham and Dr. Strauss Atkinson officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Gaines County South Cemetery of Seminole. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Cunningham was born on Sept. 27, 1913, in Hunt County, and died June 25, 2001, in Canyon. She was preceded in death by A.M. Cunningham, her husband of 64 years. She had been a resident of Gaines County and Seminole prior to moving to Canyon in 1947. As an active member of First Baptist Church of Canyon, she taught Sunday school many years. She began teaching at age 13 in Gaines County. She was involved in community activities, as well as Baptist Student activities at West Texas A&M University, where she was known as "Ma C." In the summer of 2000 she received a plaque of appreciation for many years of dedicated work at the BSU. Survivors include four children, Billy Cunningham and Nancy of Monte Vista, Colo., Frances Petry and John of Memphis, Tenn., Janelda George and John of Kerrville and Melvin Cunningham and Ann of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Mendal Wharton of Garden Grove, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church mission fund, 1717 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79015; Crown of Texas Hospice, Sky Kids Youth Camp, 1000 S. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong area resident. She was married to J.L. "Johnny" Johnson on Feb. 19, 1950, at Guymon. Survivors include her husband; three children, Karen Rice of Borger, Texas, Jerry Johnson of Guymon and Judy Reinauer of Edmond; a sister, Vella Lees of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Leon Montgomery of Fullerton, Calif., Earl Montgomery of Socorro, N.M., and Billy Montgomery of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Phillips Oct. 15, 1921, in Hubbard. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Claude Phillips of Fort Worth and Pete Phillips of Sudan; two daughters, Alta Klotz of Herndon, Va., and Alma Walker of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
