Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Dea, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mr. Crisp was a longtime farmer in the Quanah area. In 1967, he married Charlene O'Roark at Quanah. Survivors include a niece, Bonnie Johnston of Quanah; and four nephews, Frank O'Neal Jr., Layton Mays, Oscar Honea and Kenneth Honea, all of Quanah. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Amarillo Globe-News May 29, 2001 Albert Leach - Albert "Hoppy" Leach, 72, died Sunday, May 27, 2001. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Neil Reagan, pastor in Woodward, Okla., and the Rev. J. McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. Leach was born in Franklin Parish, La. He had lived in Dumas since 1949. He had worked for American Zinc for over 20 years and later as a truck driver for Dekalb for over 20 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Army, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He married Joyce Scroggs on Aug. 25, 1950, at Dumas. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Leach of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Barbara Leach of Morse, Arnold and Pam Leach of Amarillo and Chester and Kindra Leach of Sunray; two sisters, Lela Mae Cook of Winnsboro, La., and Avis Cordell of Conroe; nine grandchildren, Misty Colby, Wesley, Travis, Becky, Chris, Monte, Halee and Logan; and two great-granddaughters, Berkli and Avery. Stephens, 76, died Monday, May 28, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White, pastor, and the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Stephens was owner and operator of Don Stephens Welding for 32 years, retiring in 1995. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Riley of Pampa; two sons, Roy Don Stephens of Pampa and Larry V. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Chapel of Memories at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Dr. Howard Batson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Christian graduated from Vega High School. She lived in Wildorado from 1968 to 1977 before returning to Amarillo. She graduated from Texas State Technical Institute Beautician School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her father, William G. McBride, in 1983; an infant daughter, Jennifer Renee, in 1981; and a brother, Allen McBride, in 1992. Survivors include her husband, Ron Christian; her mother, Dorothy Cargill of Amarillo; and a sister, Susan McBride Kimsey of Topeka, Kan. Mrs. Goodson was employed by BSA Hospital for eight years. She retired after 20 years of service with Texas State Technical Institute. She grew up in Alanreed and lived in Panhandle for 14 years. She married Buddy Parsons in 1983, and they lived in Amarillo. Survivors include her husband, C.E. "Buddy" Parsons of Amarillo; her mother, Blanche Hardman of Amarillo; two daughters, Lynn Gibson and Debbie Wetmore and husband Dave, all of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Janie White and husband Russell of Houston; two stepsons, Rickey Parsons and wife Silvia of Houston and Gene Parsons and wife Debbie of Sweetwater; a granddaughter, Aimee Wetmore of Amarillo; nine step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Scott Greer, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Elliott had been a resident of Amarillo since 1985. He retired from Diamond Shamrock Co., in 1989. He was born on June 15, 1933, at Sweetwater, Okla., to Walter N. and Anna Elliott. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he worked as a midcontinent drilling manager for Diamond Shamrock Co., where he served as a drilling consultant for drilling wells all over the United States, Canada and Argentina. He married Jane Bonifield on March 4, 1988, at Las Vegas. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. His mother, Anna Elliott, preceded him in death at the age of 99 in November 2000. Survivors include his wife, Jane Elliott; three sons, William Lee Elliott Jr., of Dumas, Johnny North Elliott of Perryton and Gregory David Bonifield of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Sabrina Lynn Krieg of Amarillo; and nine grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch; or BSA Hospice. Amarillo Globe-News May 29, 2001 Elsewhere Donald Allen Hunt - Dr. Donald Allen Hunt, 74, died Saturday, May 26, 2001. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. today in DFW National Cemetery at Dallas. A celebration of life will follow at 4 p.m. in Rolling Hills Church of Christ with Mr. Lonnie Gentry and Mr. Don Davis officiating. Arrangements are by West/Hurtt Funeral Home. Dr. Hunt was born Jan. 20, 1927, at Wheeler. After graduating from high school in Wheeler, he served during World War II and later received a B.B.A. and M.E. from West Texas State University and an Ed.D. from Texas Tech University. He spent 38 years in Texas public schools as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent at Littlefield, Sunray, Amarillo, Groom, Lubbock and Levelland. From 1970 to 1987, he served as Vice-President for Instruction at Midland College. In 1994, he and his wife moved to DeSoto, where he was a member of Rolling Hills Church of Christ. He was active in various organizations throughout his life, including the Rotary Club, Lions Club and Bible Study Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents Dink and Altha Hunt. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Macie Kathryn Watson Hunt; daughters, Lyn Hunt, M.D., and her husband Dan Goggin of Fort Worth, Lea Holt and her husband Steve of Duncanville; a son, Greg Allen Hunt, D.D.S., and his wife Michele of Arlington; a sister, Irene Norman of Pampa; five granddaughters, Katy and Meg Goggin, Keely and Karlyn Holt and Marisa Hunt; two grandsons, James Donald Goggin and Austin Allen Hunt; and many nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News May 29, 2001 Carlotta Monique Nation HOUSTON - Carlotta Monique Nation, 36, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church, 8310 Southview. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Paradise South Cemetery by McCoy & Harrison Funeral Home Inc. A kind and gentle spirit, Monique was a beacon of goodness to all. Her life was lived to the fullest and her light touched those from all walks of life. Born in Houston, Monique was a product of the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School. Her secondary education began at the University of Texas at Austin and later completed at the University of Houston. She was enjoying a successful career as a journalist and communicator. Working for several news organizations, including KPRC and KCOH Radio in Houston and KAMR TV in Amarillo, she moved in and out of the lives of many. From presidents to the common man, she entered the lives of others with compassion and kindness. Some of her greatest accomplishments as a journalist began in 1993 after she joined KRIV Fox 26 television in Houston, where she evolved into a seasoned professional. Whether the story was about the county fair or the county courts, she approached them all with respect, knowing that she would be bringing the lives of others to the spotlight. As a versatile reporter, Monique reported stories such as the Karla Faye Tucker murder trial as well as her award-winning coverage of the dragging death of James Byrd Jr., in Jasper. She was also guest host of the Fox 26 public affairs program, Black Voices. Monique had strong ties to her community. In December of 2000, she was recognized by the YMCA as one of its year 2000 Women of Achievement and was recently honored as one of the YMCA's 2001 Young Minority Achievers. Last year, Monique and Fox 26 anchor Mike Barajas hosted the Houston Area Urban League's Equal Opportunity Day concert, which raised nearly $350,000 for that organization. She was an active member of Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church. Serving in a number of church organizations, she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on a number of committees - always crediting God as the source of her strength and the reason for her success. Survivors include her parents, Rosemary and Sammie T. Nation of Houston; a brother, Marlon Nation; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins, all of Houston. Amarillo Globe-News May 29, 2001 Canyon Jewel McKinney Jewel McKinney, 89, of Canyon, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in University Church of Christ with Terry Brown, minister of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene, and Bob Shepard, Bible Chair Director, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. McKinney was born Sept. 14, 1911, at Coleman to John and Annie Motley Candler. She married Ferman McKinney on March 6, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was a resident of Canyon for 50 years and a member of the University Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Lynn Duncan of Amarillo, Ann Quinn of Nederland and Gail Brown of Abilene; a sister, Ode Tole of Tulia; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
