She was preceded in death by a son; two brothers; and two sisters. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 30, 2001 Elmo McClellan GRUVER - Elmo McClellan, 81, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church of Gruver with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Perryton. Mr. McClellan married Mozelle Melton on Aug. 20, 1943. He was born four miles north of Gruver to Elmo and Elizabeth Beck McClellan. He graduated from Gruver High School in 1939. He graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 1942 with an industrial degree. He served during World War II in the Marines as a transport pilot. He left the Marines as a captain. He returned to Gruver with his wife where they served the community in many capacities. He co-owned Gruver Farm Equipment, was a farmer, city judge and fire marshal for 25 years. He worked at the Allis Chalmers dealer in Guymon, Okla., until his retirement in 1986. He was very active in Gruver United Methodist Church. He served as Sunday Superintendent and Lay Leader. After he retired, he did crafts at Elementary One Way Church Camp in Ceta Glen Canyon for seven years. He and his wife led Lay Witness missions for several years in the late 60s and early 70s. He was a member of the Rushing Wind and Golden Spread Emmaus Communities. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; a sister, Anne Sanders in 2001; and a brother, Lawrence McClellan in 1997. He came to Texas with his parents when he was 2 years old, "A True Texan." He farmed a large spread between Vega and Adrian until 1948 when he built a small grocery store on the corner of Bowie and Canyon E-Way. He owned and operated the grocery store and an appliance store. He tore down the grocery store and put in a service station that he owned and operated for many years. He then started building homes and grain elevators. He was a good man, always ready to help his neighbors. His loving wife Beulah "Peggy" of 59 years went to be with the Lord on April 5, 1995. We all know Dad and Mother are angels in God's heaven now. He will be buried next to his loving wife. Survivors include three sons, Ernest Walker of Amarillo, Horace Walker of South Fork, Colo., and Ray Walker of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Betty Bryant of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Her life taught us about Christian love; her death taught us how to face eternity with confidence, peace and dignity. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a sister. Mr. Patterson was born Jan. 12, 1908, on the family homestead in Harmon County to Samuel J. and Lucy Ayers Patterson.
