McCollough PANHANDLE - J.C. McCollough, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Boren, pastor, and the Rev. Wesley Daniels, retired minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. McCollough was born July 6, 1914, in Panhandle, the son of Charles Parker and Nellie Mae McCollough. He attended school in Panhandle and graduated from high school in Hereford. He then attended John Brown University and University of Texas. He returned to Panhandle to work with his father at Carson County Abstract Co. He married Norma "Jim" Cornett on Dec. 21, 1940, at Amarillo. He served as county and district clerk for Carson County until 1944. From 1944 until 1994, he owned and operated Carson County Abstract Co. He was one of the original licensed real estate brokers in the state of Texas and also owned an insurance agency in Panhandle. He acquired Pioneer-Lawyers Land Title Services of Stinnett in 1968 and provided land title services in Hutchinson County until 1994. He was a 50-year member of Panhandle Lions Club and a lifelong member of Methodist churches in Panhandle. He was a former director of the Land Title Association and Texas Association of Realtors. He worked in numerous community organizations and served as president of Panhandle Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife; four children, Randa Nowotny and husband, Doug, of Lake Jackson, Gail McCollough and Parker McCollough and wife, Rhonda, all of Austin, and Kay Milligan and husband, Terry, of Georgetown; a sister, Mary Beth Daniels of Breckenridge; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Scholarship Memorial of the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 30, 2001 Edwin Jeral Werhan SHAMROCK - Edwin Jeral Werhan, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Borger. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shamrock Church of Christ with Clif Werhan and Dewayne Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Werhan was born Oct. 14, 1928, at Lone Wolf, Okla. He married Donetta Smith on May 24, 1955, at Brinkman, Okla. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He lived in Shamrock since 1971. He owned Irish Burger Restaurant for nine years and worked for Shamrock Schools for 15 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Werhan of Lindsay, Okla.; two daughters, Lanetta Werhan of Borger and Ileta Bailey of Maryland; a brother, Clif Werhan of Rush Springs, Okla.; three sisters, Laquita Bennett of Shamrock, Uleta Chandler of Sentinel, Okla., and LaVeta Thomas of Shawnee, Okla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association or a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 30, 2001 Patsy Davis SILVERTON - Patsy Davis, 49, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Judge Edwin Norris, the Rev. Randy Mullin and R.D. Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Ms. Davis was born July 30, 1952, at Canyon. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her parents, Joe and Tina Davis of Silverton; a brother, Tommy Davis of Silverton; and her grandparents, Raymond and Thelma Sheeley of Tulia. Smith, 101, of Amarillo, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McClean and the Rev. Perry Hunsaker officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Smith was born Jan. 12, 1900, at Harrison County, Iowa, the son of Orton and Clara Smith. He attended school in Harrison County and graduated from high school in Indianola, Iowa. He then attended Simpson College and Iowa State University in Ames. He served in the Army during World War I. He married Opal Spooner in 1922. He was executive officer and member of the board of directors of Newton Savings and Loan Association and Mid-Iowa Savings and Loan of Newton. He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton and an associate member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Amarillo. He had been a member of American Legion since 1920, a member of Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club. He served as state president of Iowa Savings and Loan League. He had been a member of Amarillo Senior Citizens Association since 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1981. Survivors include a son, Kenneth A. Smith of Amarillo; a daughter, Virginia Turner of Oakland, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to St. Paul United Methodist Church, A.S.C.A., Meals on Wheels or a favorite charity.
