He retired as a clerk from the Postal Service and worked for many years at Producer's Grain Corporation. He was a member of 884th Ordnance Veterans, AARP and American Postal Workers Union. He married Lilly Mays on Aug. 16, 1947, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tommy Camden of Lubbock; two daughters, Donna Nomelli and Judy Camden, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Margeret Beck of Waco and Ruby Custer of Slaton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She moved to Amarillo in 1969 and to Springfield in 2001. She married Dewey Cochran in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1980. She married Joseph McGee in 1981. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; and two daughters, Rosa McKenzie in 1992 and Ruby Hall in 1998. He was a cowboy boss for Bar-G Feed Yards in Hereford for the past 15 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Channing. He was a graduate of Channing High School and was a resident of Channing for most of his life. He had lived in Hereford for the past 15 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Shafer on July 21, 1985.
