Private burial will be at a later date in Claude Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Woodward, Okla. She married Louis Thomas on Nov. 26, 1942, in Woodward. She had been a resident of Armstrong County since July 1943. She was a homemaker and member of Fairview Busy Bee Club. She had been awarded Armstrong County homemaker of the year. She was an active servant in her community and was a member of United Methodist Church in Claude. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jim Thomas and wife, Mary Ann, of Rocky Ford, Colo., Mickey Thomas and wife, Shirley, of Montgomery and Tony Thomas and wife, Sandy, of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Rodriguez was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was self-employed. He was co-founder of Latin American Organization in the 1970s. He was recipient of the good neighbor award. He had been a Dumas resident since 1959 and was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Neponuseno Rodriguez. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2002 Virgil Jamison Jr. WHEELER - Virgil Jamison Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in Round Rock. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Tulia, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Jamison was born Sept. 12, 1919, to Virgil and Vera Jamison in Wheeler. He married Dorothy Lee Kreps on Dec. 1, 1945, in Wheeler. He was a decorated World War II veteran and served in numerous campaigns in Europe. He attained the rank of master sergeant during World War II. Soon after his discharge from the Army, he was appointed postmaster in Wheeler. He retired from the postal service in 1971. After his retirement, he worked for Wheeler Gas Co. for 13 years. He was enormously proud of his hometown and the many organizations and activities he participated in for many years. He was 32nd Degree Mason and recently received his 50-year pin. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 16, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Jamison and wife, Linda, of Georgetown and David Jamison and wife, Cindy, of Goldthwaite; a sister, Nettie V. He was self-employed in the milk and grocery business for much of his life before his retirement. He was a longtime member of Masonic Lodge and was a member of Howardwick Baptist Church. She was an accomplished china painter and gardener of rose and rare iris gardens. She was an active charter member of Wildorado Senior Citizens Association. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class of which she was past president. She was the curriculum specialist at PESO Education Service Center and started the preschool program at the Methodist church after she retired. She was a member of the women's education sorority, Zeta Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Sue Hite Study Club, Retired Teachers, American Association of University Women and WT Women. She was active in the Crusaders Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1993. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2002 Oklahoma Calvin Eugene "Gene" Lilley MEAD, Okla. - Calvin Eugene "Gene" Lilley, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in Denison, Texas. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mead Baptist Church with the Rev. Kerry Groce officiating. Burial was in Mead Cemetery by Brown's Funeral Service of Durant. Mr. Lilley was born March 1, 1922, in Durant. He married Mary Jo Bruce on Jan. 30, 1946, in Durant. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bruce Lilley of Shawnee, Mark Stephen Lilley of Borger, Texas, Joe David Lilley of St. Louis, Mo., and Monte Glen Lilley of Sunray, Texas; two daughters, Teresa Mounts of Borger and Denise Andrus of Breckenridge, Texas; a brother, Boyd Lilley of Durant; a sister, Vella Adams of North Ridge, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Plainview School Auditorium in Griggs with Lloyd Mattocks officiating. Burial will be in Marella Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Cayton was born June 19, 1922, in Texas County. She married Sam Robert Cayton on Sept. 1, 1942. Survivors include four sons, Dean Cayton of Beaver, Terry Cayton of Boise City, and Wendell Cayton and Curtis Cayton, both of Keyes; a daughter, Darla Hogan of Guymon; two brothers, Oscar Elliott and Bearl Elliott, both of Texhoma; a sister, Ruth Ferguson of Texhoma; 18 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Griggs Church of God or a favorite charity and may be left in care of Cimarron Mortuary, P.O. Box 277, Boise City, OK 73933. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2002 Elsewhere V.A. "Shorty" Hewett VAN BUREN, Ark. - V.A. "Shorty" Hewett, 85, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2002, in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery. Mr. Hewett was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Plains Creamery in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Ann; a daughter, Sharon Kay Frye of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Linda McDonald of Temple, Texas, and Candy Graves of Seattle; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5438, Fort Smith, AK 72913 or Sparks Hospital Foundation in Fort Smith.
