Wilmeth Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Chester Beavers officiating. Military honors will be conveyed by the Navy. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Wilmeth was born Nov. 4, 1957, in Tulsa, Okla., to Leo J. and Marilynn Small Wilmeth Jr. He resided with his family in Tulsa for a number of years as well as Houston and Sioux City, Iowa, before moving to Amarillo in 1973. He attended and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1975. He was a member of the Tascosa Rodeo Club and the Tri-State High School Rodeo Association. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1975 and served on the USS Duluth and the USS Chicago, obtaining the rank of petty officer first class. He received numerous citations and decorations for service while in the Navy. He served a total of 12 years in the military. In 1994 he moved to Oklahoma City and worked with his brother. He contributed greatly in the recovery effort during the April 19, 1995, bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City. He received a certificate of appreciation from the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Oklahoma for all of his help. He became a professional truck driver in the fall of 1995 and was driving a truck at the time of his death. He was raised in the Episcopal Church. He also helped at the homeless mission in Oklahoma City serving meals and assisting in other areas. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo, in 1981; his mother, Marilynn, in 1999; and a sister, Lisa Diane Wilmeth, in 1969. Survivors include three brothers, Larry Wilmeth of Amarillo, Mike Wilmeth and wife, Maria, of Oklahoma City and John Wilmeth and wife, Tricia, of Pryor, Okla.; his grandfather, Dr. Ray Small of El Paso; six nephews, Jimi Wilmeth of Amarillo, Tanner Wilmeth of Stillwater, Okla., Matthew Machinski and Andrew Machinski, both of Oklahoma City, and Cody Asher and Bryson Wilmeth, both of Pryor; a niece, Brianne Wilmeth Schaffler of Amarillo; and numerous aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2002 Frances "Lorene" Ballard Frances "Lorene" Ballard, 70, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery of Vega. Mrs. Ballard was born in Leedy, Okla., on Jan. 14, 1932. She lived in Amarillo for the past 50 years. She married Robert Ballard on Oct. 10, 1970, in Amarillo. She worked as a waitress at the Blue Front Cafe for nearly 17 years. She then managed TAC AIR Restaurant for three years before retiring in 1997. She had been a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church for more than two years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed by many friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Darlene Cantrell; and a son, Chris Bland Ballard. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Judy Blackburn of State Road, N.C., and Barbara Cooper of Leesburg; a son, Steve Cantrell of Amarillo; three sisters, Doris McCutchan of Dumas, Lucille Romine of Stephenville and Gladys Weatherford of Dalhart; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2002 Ira L. Bone Ira L. Bone, 97, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Baptist Church with Carey Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Bone was born in Hildago County. He married Edna Opal Goebring in 1928, and she preceded him in death. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1963. He later married Mattie Mae Bufkin in 1968 at Amarillo. He was a charter member of Texas Credit Union Association, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Hall of Fame and a member of the Amarillo Bowling Association. He was the founding member of a senior bowling league, and it was later named the Ira Bone Senior Men's League. He bowled until he was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his second wife and three brothers. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mary Helen Bohrer of Amarillo; a son, Lee Bone of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Brown, 96, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Kismet Cemetery at Kismet, Kan. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Brown was born in Mullinville, Kan., to Miller Brown and Anna Olson Brown on July 9, 1905, and came to Kismet in a covered wagon at the age of 8 with his parents and his grandfather, Mads Olson. They moved into a 23-room Bible school building in Kismet which was converted to a boarding house. He graduated from Kismet High School and attended Kansas State and the University of Kansas. After college, he taught school and became principal of the Kismet School. In 1936 he was elected county treasurer of Seward County. After that, he went to work for John W. Baughman and later became general manager of the Baughman Farms Co. and was founder of the Baughman Foundation. His love and dedication to Liberal and the Seward County community was evident. In 1961, he and three other men founded the Seward County Historical Society. He was a past vice president of the National Wheatgrowers Association and past vice president of the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce. He was honored as the Outstanding Realtor of Kansas in 1949 and opened Mr. B's Real Estate in his later years. He was a member of many organizations during his lifetime, including the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Royalty Owners Association and had many honors and accomplishments. He took great pleasure in having a part in the development and growth of the Seward County Museum and Dorothy's House. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Liberal. He was a longtime resident and civic leader of Liberal before moving to Amarillo because of health to live with his daughter and her family. He was preceded in death by two wives, Ada Rose Brown in 1937 and Doris Thompson Brown in 1982; a daughter, Judith Kay Clouston in 1996; and two sisters, Pauline Hand and Ruth Harned. Survivors include a son, Norman Jack Brown of Mission, Kan.; two daughters, Beverly Brown Davey of Amarillo and Dr. Victoria Wyatt of Annandale, Va.; two sisters, Frances Wacker of Yreka, Calif., and Virginia West of Yuma, Ariz.; a brother, Bill Brown of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and 18 nephews and nieces. Mr. Grice was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Pelican, La. He served 20 years in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1475 serving in all command positions of the V.F.W. including State Commander of Texas from 1986 to 1987. He was a ROTC Marine Corps instructor to many, hoping to each cadet that he was some inspiration in their lives. He taught ROTC at Caprock High School from 1975 to 1993 and Plaquemine High School from 1993 to 2000. He married Brenda Grice on May 7, 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 23, 2001; his parents, William and Annie Grice; four sisters, Elsie Grice, Louise Ward, Ruth Arndt and Avery Goins; and a brother, Raymond Grice. He began working for Pantex on Feb. 14, 1982, and retired in September 1999. He was a member of Dozier Church of Christ. He was a member of the Samnorwood Independent School District Board of Directors for 21 years, serving as president. He served on the board of directors on the Samnorwood Rural Water System District. He was also a director of the Samnorwood Lion's Club. He served his country during World War II in the Army as an infantryman and paratrooper. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal. He was a charter member in the VFW in Shamrock. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Rodriguez was born at Sta Ma del ora, Dgo, Mexico, and had resided in Dumas since 1975. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jesus; a son, Eloy M. Rodriguez of Dumas; two daughters, Aida A. Finn and Norma Gomez, both of Dumas; four brothers, Jose Nevarez and Jose Guadalupe Nevarez, both of Juarez, Mexico, Nicacio Nevarez of Dumas and Gorge Nevarez of El Paso; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Private family memorial services will be held in Austin. Arrangements are by Austin Peel & Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Jones graduated from Tascosa High School and attended the University of Texas. He was general manager of Ray Jones Chevrolet for many years. Survivors include his parents, Ray and Evelyn Jones; a daughter, Jessica Jones of Austin; two sisters, Becky Tucker of Amarillo and Melinda Wright of Dallas; a brother, R.B. Jones Jr. of Austin; and aunts and uncles, H.L. and Charlene Oliver of Amarillo and Bill and Betty Jones of Irving. Memorial graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Pampa with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor of Hobart Baptist Church, officiating. Local arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Davis was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Wheeler. He was employed by Sperry Univac for 19 years and Texas Meter and Device for six years. Survivors include his wife, Marlene; two sons, Brandon Davis and Duron Davis, both of Austin; a stepson, Chase of Denver; five sisters, Cleta Trimble, Joy Haynes and Sharon Brown, all of Pampa, Nellie Williams of Sudan and Glenda Pecka of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, James Davis and Melvin Davis, both of Pampa. Vigil services will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel in Pampa. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with the Rev. John Valdez, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pampa, officiating. Mrs. Thornburg was a resident of Pampa from 1951 to 1995 when she moved to Irving. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Glover of Irving and Verna Price of Yale, Okla.; a son, Ellis Lee Thornburg of Dumas; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ at Melrose with Otho Rogers and Larenzo Gardunio officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Ashley married Norma Ware on June 1, 1943, in Melrose. He served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary Ashley and Jeff Ashley, both of Clovis, and Mike Ashley of Texico; three sisters, Annie Bryant of Sherman, Texas, Geneva Pirtle of Brasstown, N.C., and Louise Greene of Janesville, Calif.; a brother, Tom Ashley of Tranton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with Mike Kuhlman officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Shaw was born March 2, 1914, in Memphis, to Thomas and Fannie McCoy Gilley. She was a resident of Sumner prior to moving to Canyon. She worked at Matador Ranch and for Jute Bivins. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Jack Hodnett and Wayne Bevers; and two daughters, Bobbie Sue Webb and Betty Lou Hodnett. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Lee Hodnett of Amarillo, Dwayne Bevers of Canyon and Michael Lewis Mebane of Palisades; two brothers, Vernon Gilley of California and Floyd E. Gilley of Oklahoma City; five grandsons, Kevin Mebane, Shawn Mebane, Michael Lewis Mebane Jr., B.J. Hodnett and Kimmy Hodnett; and numerous great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice or Amarillo Heart Group.
