Stafford LUBBOCK - Billy F. Stafford, 71, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Church of Christ with Kenneth Chaffin officiating. Burial with police department color guard and Masonic rites will be in Resthaven Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mr. Stafford was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Sayre, Okla. He served in the Army as a military police officer in Korea and joined the Lubbock Police Department in 1952, retiring in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Jack Stafford of San Antonio; and a granddaughter, Jennifer of Comanche. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 21, 2002 Mary V. Brown LUBBOCK - Mary V. Brown, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Wesley Brown, the Rev. Elton Wyatt and the Rev. Johnnie Williams officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 20, 1917, in San Antonio and had been a resident of Lubbock since 1986, coming from Fritch. She was a 1939 graduate of Southwest Texas Teachers College in San Marcos. She married the Rev. Robert W. Brown Sr. on Dec. 14, 1941, in Sweetwater. He died Sept. 22, 1986. While in Sweetwater, she worked as the Nolan County Extension Agent. She taught school in Abilene, Medina, Moran, Kress, Plainview, Whiteface, O'Donnell, McLean, Haskell, Blackwell, Rule, Petersburg, Sudan and Rochester. She had certifications in home economics, elementary education, science and math. She was a member of the Nolan County 4-H Clubs, Teachers in Texas Public Schools, TEA, Home Economics Teachers Association, Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Ruth Brown of Lubbock; two sons, Robert W. Brown Jr. and wife, Mignon, and Joseph Wesley Brown and wife, Connie, all of Lubbock; two sisters, Ruth Dolan of California and Libby Cooper of Corpus Christi; a brother, Samuel A. Darby of Oregon; and six grandchildren, Heath, Heather, Darby, Robert, William and Rebekah. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Georgia St. Mrs. Stephens married Roger Dale Stephens in Amarillo in March 1967. She worked as an administrative assistant in Spiritual Care at BSA Hospital. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and the Sanctuary Choir. She was also a member of the Golden Spread Emmaus Community. Her greatest joy in life was being a "Nana." Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Dawn White and husband, Casey, of Amarillo; a son, Todd Stephens and wife, Andrea, of Amarillo; two sisters, Ila June Binkley of DeSoto and Lota Taylor of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Jacob Stephens and Chandler Stephens, both of Amarillo. Horton of Amarillo; a sister, Barbara Guizado of California; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 21, 2002 Martha Carrillo Najar Martha Carrillo Najar, 60, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002. Private family services were held. Cremation and arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Najar was born in Roswell, N.M., where she lived for many years before moving to Amarillo. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Roswell. Survivors include her husband, Edward; two daughters, Cindy Castro of Amarillo and Rosann Rivera of Roswell; a son, Edward Najar Jr. of Roswell; three sisters, Gloria Anaya, Virgie Miranda and Kathy Carrillo; three brothers, Facundo Carrillo, Gilbert Carrillo and Orlando Carrillo; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wilmeth was born Nov. 4, 1957, in Tulsa, Okla., to Leo J. and Marilynn Small Wilmeth Jr. He resided with his family in Tulsa for a number of years as well as in Houston and Sioux City, Iowa, before moving to Amarillo in 1973. He attended and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1975. He was a member of the Tascosa Rodeo Club and the Tri-State High School Rodeo Association. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1975 and served on the USS Duluth and the USS Chicago, obtaining the rank of petty officer first class. He received numerous citations and decorations for service while in the Navy. He served a total of 12 years in the military. In 1994, he moved to Oklahoma City and worked with his brother. He contributed greatly in the recovery effort during the April 19, 1995, bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City. He received a certificate of appreciation from the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Oklahoma for all of his help. He became a professional truck driver in the fall of 1995 and was driving a truck at the time of his death. He was raised in the Episcopal Church. He also helped at the homeless mission in Oklahoma City, serving meals and assisting in other areas. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo, in 1981; his mother, Marilynn, in 1999; and a sister, Lisa Diane Wilmeth, in 1969. Survivors include three brothers, Larry Wilmeth of Amarillo, Mike Wilmeth and wife, Maria, of Oklahoma City and John Wilmeth and wife, Tricia, of Pryor, Okla.; his grandfather, Dr. Ray Small of El Paso; six nephews, Jimi Wilmeth of Amarillo, Tanner Wilmeth of Stillwater, Okla., Matthew Machinski and Andrew Machinski, both of Oklahoma City, and Cody Asher and Bryce Wilmeth, both of Pryor; a niece, Brianne Wilmeth Schaffler of Amarillo; and numerous aunts and uncles. She married L.F. Lynn on Aug. 20, 1935, in Clovis, N.M., and was a member of Forrest Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Bunch and Jeanette Newton and husband, Jimmy, all of Amarillo; a son, Richard Lynn of Fort Worth; a sister, Viola Grigg of The Dalles, Ore.; grandchildren, Debbie and Mark Phillips, both of Vega, Brent Lynn of Fort Worth, Brandy and Troy Hommel, both of Cleburne, and Joy, Jan and Jenny Newton, all of Amarillo; and great-grandchildren, Holly and Ashleigh Phillips, both of Vega, and Jacob and Elizabeth Hommel, both of Cleburne. Mrs. Jacobsen was a bookkeeper for Jacobsen Brothers Welding. She was named Pioneer of the Year in 1996. Mrs. Eason was born Nov. 17, 1920, to Hugh and Gennieb Reid Kincaid. She married James "Lewis" Eason Jr. on Jan. 15, 1941, and they farmed in Childress for many years. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Ivey Chapel, with Thomas McGuire officiating. Private burial will take place. Mr. McGuire was born May 5, 1920, in County Line where he attended schools and graduated from Anton High School in 1937. He farmed and ranched in Dimmitt for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Lynna Wilbourn of Leander; a son, Thomas McGuire of Peoria, Ill.; and three grandchildren. Dirickson MATADOR - L.H. "Dick" Dirickson, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in East Mound Cemetery. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Dirickson died Saturday morning in an automobile accident near Matador. He was a retired farmer and stockman and had also operated a movie theater in Matador. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Forrest was the owner and operator of Dean's Bait Shop in Sanford. He was also a sportswriter for the Borger News Herald in the late 1940s. Survivors include his wife, Nadine; a son, Robert "Bob" Forrest Sr. of Borger; a daughter, Sharron Harris of Stinnett; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
