Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas was born Aug. 10, 1912, to Samuel Bennett and Susan King Bennett in Ralls. She graduated from Ralls High School and from cosmetology school at Clarendon College. She married Zook Thomas on June 22, 1932, in White Deer. An active member of First Christian Church, she was in Ladies Circle, Quilting Club, assisted with Vacation Bible School and played piano. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997, two brothers and four sisters. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 24, 2002 Amarillo Clara Griffith Clara Griffith, 89, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Jeff Raines officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Griffith was born Aug. 4, 1912, on the family farm near Darrouzett in Lipscomb County to pioneering parents Frank and Ruhama Balch. She started school at Plains Country School in a one-room schoolhouse her father helped build. She completed high school at Follett, graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 1929. She next attended Draughn's Business College in San Antonio and then returned home and worked in the Lipscomb County courthouse as secretary for the Lipscomb County agriculture agent. Later, she moved to Amarillo where she worked in the U.S. Crop Insurance Office. During this period she met Lloyd Griffith of Amarillo. They were married Nov. 30, 1939. Eventually, she was a secretary at Sam Houston Junior High School. Later she transferred to the Amarillo Independent School District administration office where she worked as a secretary until she retired in 1976 after working 20 years. She and her husband were members of First Baptist Church in Amarillo for 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, and an older sister, Edith Deal. Survivors include her three children, Dale Griffith of Barrington, Ill., Dr. Gene Griffith of Amarillo and Joan Van Doren of Canyon; a sister, Alice Balch of Amarillo; a brother, Glenn Balch of Darrouzett; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. McAfee was born Jan. 28, 1912, in Loco, Okla. She attended University High School on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, Okla. After graduation, she continued her education at the university, receiving a bachelor's degree in dramatic arts. In 1934, she moved to Amarillo where she taught ballet and then met C. Lane McAfee. They married Feb. 25, 1939, and made their home in Amarillo where he became a partner in McAfee's Furniture. During her years in Amarillo, she was active in many organizations including Junior League of Amarillo, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni, Women's Club, Polk Street United Methodist Church and Junior Antique Club. Throughout the 1970s, she owned and operated a Pauline's Sportswear franchise on South Washington Street. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a child, Charles Richard McAfee III. Survivors include a daughter, Melaney Currie of Amarillo; two sons, Christopher McAfee of Granite Bay, Calif., and Michael McAfee of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, David Currie, Bob Currie and Susan Currie, all of Amarillo, Mathew McAfee of Wellington, New Zealand, and Jessica Sorensen and Andrew McAfee, both of Mesa, Ariz.; and four great-grandchildren. He married Linda Bartels in 1960. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986; and a brother Earl Bartels. After the war, he married Edith Dilley on Jan. 3, 1947, in Yakima, Wash. He lived most of his life in Medford, working in the lumber industry. He attended Trinity Fellowship in Amarillo recently. He will be greatly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Elizabeth Kelley; and by a son, Gary Michael Kelley. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Quanah Cemetery at Quanah. Mrs. Jones was born July 11, 1905, in Center Point, Ark. She moved with her family to Quanah when she was 12. She married Robert C. Jones in 1924, and they spent 71 years together before he passed away in 1995. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. She served faithfully alongside her husband as he ministered to Churches of Christ. They served Central Church of Christ in Amarillo for 10 years, during which time the beautiful gothic church building was built. They also served churches in Wichita Falls, Fort Worth and Clarendon. Her life goals were to serve God and care for her family. In midlife, she became a businesswoman building a very successful direct sales organization with Con Stan Industries. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie McMurtry and husband, Bud, of Amarillo; a son, Jon E.
