Mrs. Head was a member of First United Methodist Church of Spearman. She was a member of Hansford Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Sheppard Sunday school class and Gladiola Flower Club. She loved to play bridge and 42. She was in charge of the Methodist Ground Hog Dinner for many years. She was an avid Texas Tech Red Raider fan. She married Garland M. Head on May 29, 1945, in Spearman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kiff and Aleta White, her husband in 1991, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Delinda McLaughlin of Spearman; a son, Ron Head of Carlsbad, N.M.; two sisters, Elizabeth Carr of Pampa and Frankie Sloan of Breckenridge; two brothers, Kiff E. Mrs. Ware was born Sept. 21, 1907, in Fannin County. She lived in Wellington for 65 years before moving to Borger six years ago. They lived south of Guymon from 1945 to 1964, and in Texhoma until 1997 when she moved back to Guymon. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, bingo and being with people. Mr. Blackburn was a civil service general foreman for the Coast Guard base in Kodiak, Alaska. He married Wieta Foster on April 27, 1961, in Clovis. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 26, 2002 Jim Douglas Harrell Jim Douglas Harrell, 52, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Farmington, N.M. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Harrell was born Oct. 9, 1949, in Borger, to Douglas and Mary Lou Harrell. He died in a plane crash in Farmington. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1968. He and his wife were married 33 years and have two sons. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and leaves behind countless numbers of friends, many who would claim him as their best friend. He had been a passionate motorcycle rider since his early teens and was a member of Amarillo Harley Owners Group. Nothing gave him more pleasure than taking his Harley on the road with his friends. He was the owner and general manager of Tower Service Co. in Canyon. As president of Amarillo Rifle and Pistol Club, he competed at the national level in benchrest target shooting. He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Amarillo. He lived a rich and full life, always searching for new things to experience. He enjoyed scuba diving, nature photography, hunting and fishing. He had a contagious laugh and a happy spirit. There was never a friend or stranger in need that he didn't lend a hand to. He was generous and kind-hearted, a most special man, who will be missed by so many. Survivors include his wife, Susan; two sons, James Douglas Harrell and Nathan Ray Harrell, both of Amarillo; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Arvis Stewart of Amarillo; his stepmother, Shirley Harrell; his younger siblings, Byron Harrell of New Orleans, and Bonnie Bennett and Mickie Phipps, both of Austin; a stepsister, Holly Stewart; and a stepbrother, Adam Stewart. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 26, 2002 Mike Schenk Mike Schenk, 75, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. No services are planned at this time. Mr. Schenk was born in Semarang, Indonesia. He served in the Dutch Armed Forces. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Schenk; a daughter, Esther Jones and husband, Robert, of Arlington; a son, Arthur Schenk and wife, Gloria, of Fritch; three grandchildren, Wesley, Jennifer Nicole and Adalia. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 26, 2002 Willie Claude Pickett Willie Claude Pickett, 98, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell Ave., with the Rev. H.L. Stevens, pastor of Assembly of God Church in Dumas. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Pickett was born Aug. 4, 1903, in Bonham to Willie Samuel and Hattie Eugene Stewart Pickett. His parents moved to Amarillo and his father was superintendent of parks for Potter County for several years. Mr. Pickett married Minnie Belle Dysart on July 5, 1923, in Frederick, Okla. They moved to Amarillo in 1927. He worked on the Amarillo Helium Plant construction crew and was hired to work there after the plant was completed. He received his 40-year service pin in 1968. It was the first 40 year pin ever awarded by the Department of the Interior. The pin was designed with an eagle instead of a buffalo which was the symbol of the department. He also received a Meritorious Award, a silver medallion from then Secretary of the Interior Udall. He became superintendent of the Excell Helium Plant in 1950, and was superintendent of the Amarillo Helium Plant in 1963 until his retirement. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He was an avid Indian artifact collector for more than 30 years. He assisted the Canyon museum in several archaelogical digs. One site in Hutchison County was named "Pickett Ruin." He loaned his collection to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in 1994 and a room is dedicated to display his artifacts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, his parents, a brother, Wade, and a sister, Ora Herrington. Survivors include three daughters, Alma Jeane Stark of Nixa, Mo., Billie Fay Ham of Amarillo, and Claudeane Marie Sublett and husband, John, of Grand Prairie; three grandchildren, Billie Marie "Mykie" Hill and her husband, Eddie, of Lubbock, Cynthia Ann Ham of Amarillo and Kenneth Harold Ham of Corpus Christi; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many friends. Mrs. Stark moved to Amarillo in 1942 from McDonald, Kan. She was a homemaker. She married Everett Guy Stark in 1916. She was a member of the Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957; three sons, Lynn Everett Stark in 1990, Hubert Wayne Stark in 1991 and Leo J. Stark in 1991; and two grandsons, Harold Ray Green and Rodger Sherman Duckworth. Survivors include three daughters, Eva Jean Green and Eldra S.
