Mike Venable, pastor of First Baptist Church in Hartley, officiating. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens of Dumas with the Order of the Eastern Star No. 651. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Green was born July 16, 1912, in Giles. She had lived in Hartley County since 1938. She married Hubert Green on Dec. 20, 1940, in Hartley. She retired as a physics teacher in 1972 after 35 years. She was a member of Disciples of Christ Church in Dumas. She was a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Kappa Delta Gamma and a recipient of the Outstanding Physics Teacher of the State of Texas award. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Paul Green; a sister, Alleen Ledbetter; and a niece, Jo Ledbetter Brodnax. Survivors include a granddaughter, Kathleen LaRue of Hartley; a grandson, Glenn Green of Kennewick, Wash.; and a great-grandson, Levi LaRue of Hartley. Mr. Graham was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Searcy, Ark. He married Elizabeth "Elsie" Josbacher on Jan. 15, 1965, in Amarillo. He had been a resident of Plainview the last three years and previously lived in Amarillo for 36 years. He was a retired iron worker with the Ironworkers Local. He had worked in the steel erection industry for 50 years and 34 of those were with Panhandle Steel Erectors. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 3704th Army Air Corps. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a son; and his parents, Daniel W. Graham and Minnie Smith Graham. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 29, 2002 Gay "Mrs. M.J." Benefield Gay "Mrs. M.J." Benefield, 101, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Live Oak Cemetery in Brady with Larry Barber officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Benefield was born Dec. 26, 1900, in Gorman, the 10th child of John and Nancy Neill. Six of her 10 siblings lived into their 80s. She married Malcolm Jefferson Benefield on Nov. 6, 1920, in Gorman. He was a rig builder in the Desdemona "oil boom." He later managed a lumberyard in Sipe Springs, one of Texas' many abandoned oil towns. She lived through two world wars. He husband served in World War I and was decorated with the Criox Guerre medal. Her two sons served in the Marine Corps during World War II. She had a growing family during the Great Depression. In 1952, she was named First Lady of Odessa for her civic work. She later obtained a master's bridge degree from Goran Bridge School and taught bridge for many years. Her husband was manager of Odessa Chamber of Commerce at the time of his death. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died of a heart condition in 1948 at Odessa; three brothers; and seven sisters. Survivors include a daughter, June Hinckley of Austin; two sons, Malcolm of Amarillo and Jack of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was the owner of Amarillo Spring and Axle for eight years and then worked Panhandle Trailways as a dispatcher. He then owned Blue Ribbon Tours for three years, retiring in 1995. He married Bonnie Riley Brown in 1971 at Clovis, N.M. He was a 32nd degree Mason at Palo Duro No. 1239 as well as a Shriner. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. They moved in 1975 to Canyon, where she was active in First Baptist Church and taught the Kings Daughters Sunday School class for over 20 years. Her mother had also taught that Sunday School class. She was also active in the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1931. "Jim" Cooper, 62, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Jay Riley officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Citizen's Cemetery at Clarendon. Mr. Cooper was born May 21, 1939, in Greenville, S.C. He lived in Amarillo for 33 years. He was the owner of Amarillo Spring and Axle for eight years and then worked Panhandle Trailways as a dispatcher. He then owned Blue Ribbon Tours for three years, retiring in 1995. He married Bonnie Riley Brown in 1971 at Clovis, N.M. He was a 32nd degree Mason at Palo Duro No. 1239 as well as a Shriner. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kandy Caffee of Amarillo and Sue Beth Boyd of California; three sons, Victor Brown of Amarillo, and Jimmy Meeks and Roger Meeks, both of Washington state; three sisters, Elaine Schram of California, Carolyn Gasner of Pennsylvania and Joyce Locke of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 29, 2002 Canyon Stella Etoile Harden Hill Stella Etoile Harden Hill, 93, of Canyon died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Reese, pastor of Shepherd of the Plains Church, and Gayle Bowen, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Hill was born on Dec. 1, 1908, in Mantee, Miss., to William Henry Harden and Nora Blanch Arnold. She married Henry Ishmael Hill on July 20, 1930, in Canyon. She taught second grade in the Lubbock public school system for over 20 years. They moved in 1975 to Canyon, where she was active in First Baptist Church and taught the Kings Daughters Sunday School class for over 20 years. Her mother had also taught that Sunday School class. She was also active in the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1931. Survivors include two sons, Avery Merl Hill of Lindale and Bob Hill of Canyon; a sister, Elaine H. Hunter of Pecos, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church youth building fund or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice of Amarillo.
