Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery of Sunray. Mr. Carter was born July 10, 1928, in Amarillo. He was a Sunray and Sherman County resident for 50 years. He married Joyce Burge on May 26, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. He graduated from Stratford High School and attended West Texas State College. During his life he was a Baptist minister, carpenter, painter and farmer. He moved to the Spurlock Community in 1931 with his parents. Survivors include his wife; three sons, H.A. Carter of Sunray, Noel Carter of Dodge City, Kan., and Neil Carter of Lubbock; a daughter, Lola Caraway of Liberal, Kan.; a brother, Vernon Carter of Amarillo; a sister, Evelyn Wegner of Mena, Ark.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mayo, 71, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Robertson Chapel of Memories of Clarendon with Richard Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery of Clarendon by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Mayo was born May 26, 1930, in Clarendon where he lived until moving to Amarillo in 1954. He was a barber in Clarendon for three years and in Amarillo for 27 years before retiring. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict having served from 1952 until 1954. He served in the 584th Medical Company and was awarded the Korean service medal with two bronze stars, the United Nations service medal, the national defense service medal and the good conduct medal. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon. Casket bearers include Kenneth Hutson, Jimmy Hutson, Don Martin and Ricky Martin. Survivors include a brother, G.T. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 1, 2002 Charleen Marie Spitler Holstine Charleen Marie Spitler Holstine, 84, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002. Mrs. Holstine was born in Chicago on Feb. 15, 1917, the only child of Marie Nolan Spitler and Oral Emerson Spitler. Her parents moved to California in 1921, and she graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1940. From California she enlisted in the Navy Waves Corps where she served for the duration of World War II. She was extremely proud of her World War II service and remained active in the Navy Waves group until her death. She was Waves National representative in Amarillo. She was a lifelong volunteer for veterans services. She was also a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and she retained her membership in St. Rita's Circle at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a career employee for the U.S. Postal Service and retired as a supervisor from the Marina Postal Facility at Inglewood, Calif., in 1979. While on active duty in Norfolk, Va., Naval yards, she met her husband, Morris Lealon (Tex) Holstine, also a Navy veteran, whom she married after the war in 1946 at Inglewood, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 12, 2001. Survivors include three children, Margaret Peebles and Mary Moreland and husband, Larry, all of Amarillo, and Charles Holstine and wife, Hollis, of Petaluma, Calif.; three grandchildren, Michael Moreland and Daniel Moreland and wife, Tara, all of Amarillo, and Megan Holstine of Petaluma; and a great-granddaughter, Lauryn Marie Moreland of Amarillo. She was the former co-owner with her husband of Chuck's Smokehouse. She was also a member of the ABC Club. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Springcreek Baptist Church of Sayre with the Rev. Jim Clark officiating. Burial will be in Springcreek Cemetery by Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Mr. Harvey was born May 15, 1926, in Collingsworth County, Texas, at his grandmother's home to Loy and Hester (Davis) Harvey. He was raised in Collingsworth and attended school at Abra and Samnorwood. He served in the Marines and in March of 1954 he married Miss Nadine Harvey in Wellington, Texas. He worked as a rancher and cowboy and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He also raised rabbits and enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gerald Harvey.
