Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. McCray was born in Amarillo on July 27, 1946, the son of James Blake and Mogie Routh McCray of Panhandle. He was raised in Panhandle and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1964. Growing up on a farm led to his interest in agriculture leading him to receive bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Tech University in agricultural economics. His deep sense of patriotism encouraged him to complete his basic officer training at Fort Knox, Ky. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve. He served honorably for eight years, attaining the grade of captain. In 1971 he moved to Austin where he secured a job with the governor's office as an economist and later transferred to the office of the State Comptroller as a systems analyst. Subsequently he was promoted to budget director for the agency and then promoted as the director for fiscal policy research. In 1984, he became assistant director of the budget for the Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville. Three years later he was promoted to deputy director for finance and administration. Gov. Mark White appointed him to the Interagency Council on nutrition and physical fitness to increase the awareness of proper nutrition and fitness in state institutions. He concluded his public service to the state of Texas in 1996. In 1997 he moved back to Amarillo to go into private business and spend more time with his family. From 1998 until the present he was employed by Maxor Plus in Amarillo as director of finance. While in Austin he volunteered his time doing charitable work for his Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Amarillo U.S./Mexico Sister City Association. He served on many advisory boards throughout his lifetime. He and his wife, Corine, enjoyed the outdoors immensely and rock climbing. He was always looking for another hill to climb or a new trail to hike. Among his specialities was sponsoring fund-raising cook-offs and playing shuffleboard. He was an avid golfer, dancer and amateur composer of country western music. He was a genuine humanitarian. His most enjoyable moments were spent with his best friend and mentor, Corine. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Edward McCray, in 1957. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lori Morgenroth and husband, Kyle, of Athens, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Teresa Annette Keeling and husband, Cliff, of Austin; two stepsons, Frankie Hipolito and wife, Lisa, of Austin and Richard Hipolito of Baytown; his parents; a sister, Jean A. McCray of Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; and many friends. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center; or Crown of Texas Hospice. The family will receive visitors after the service in Fellowship Hall at the church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes. Mr. Shorten was born in Amarillo and attended North Heights Elementary, Carver and Amarillo High School. He was a veteran of the Army. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Miller was born at Leavenworth, Kan., and had lived in Amarillo for the past three years. Prior to becoming disabled, he was self-employed in the video store business in St. Louis, Mo. Survivors include two sisters, Cora Lee Quedeaux of Amarillo and Carolyn Meldfelt of Hutchinson, Kansas. He served in the Army and retired from Asarco after 36 years. He will be deeply missed by his family and a handful of lifelong friends and many people who were touched by his love, compassion, encouragement and guidance. Burial will be in Panna Maria Catholic Cemetery at Panna Maria with Wojciech Reisch officiating. Miss Dupnik was born July 23, 1927, in Panna Maria, the daughter of John and Dorothy Dupnik. She was a housekeeper, having worked for several families in Plainview and Hereford. She loved cooking, sewing, crocheting and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Hereford. She was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a niece, Rose Mary Barrett of Hereford; and a sister-in-law, Ella Dupnik of Hereford. The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Panna Maria. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery of Dalhart with Dr. Clifford Dane, of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mr. Smith was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Port, Okla., to Reuben and Lora (Leonard) Smith. He was raised in Littlefield and was a World War II veteran serving under General Patton in the European Theatre. He married Berneice Brown on May 9, 1946, in Pampa. They moved to Dalhart in 1965. He owned and operated a trucking company and retired in 1980. He was a charter member of the local Elks club and a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dwayne Smith of Dalhart and Jerry Smith of Mineral Wells; two daughters, Lora McPherson of Dallas and Sue Carr of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles Smith of Littlefield; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ooley was born March 4, 1921, in Floyd County. She married Klyce Ooley in 1941 and they farmed in the Providence Community for many years. Mr. Copeland was born Oct. 20, 1916, in Shamrock. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church in Shamrock.
