Hughes St. Mrs. White was born July 22, 1908, in Lorena. She was employed at the Herring Hotel for 32 years. She was a member of Carter Chapel CME Church. She was one of the original delivery drivers for Meals on Wheels. She was culinary superintendent of the Tri-State Fair. She was a member of Texas Extension Home Demonstration Club. Mr. Griffin was born May 10, 1922, in Olustee, Okla., to Edgar and Ruth Parker Griffin. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in Dimmitt for 30 years before moving to Amarillo. He was in the trucking business for 10 years until he retired. He was a veteran of the Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church, American Legion and VFW Post No. 8056 in Dimmitt. He was preceded in death by two sons, Milton Ray Griffin in 1945 and Ronnie Lee Griffin in 1949. He had lived in Shamrock all his life and owned Copeland Ditch Witch Service until his retirement in July 1994. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church. He married Ada Lucille Shipman on Dec. 22, 1935, in Erick, Okla. He was preceded in death by his wife in October 1999; a son, Carroll Copeland; a granddaughter, Angel Copeland; and a great-grandson, Tristan Copeland. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery by Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Mr. Carman was born Dec. 4, 1920, in Tucumcari, N.M., and was affectionately known to family and friends as "Poppie." He was a retired accountant with Broce Construction of Albuquerque, N.M., and was a World War II veteran. He dedicated his life to his family and friends and served his Lord as a faithful member, deacon, elder and teacher in Churches of Christ in New Mexico and Texas, most recently with Saginaw Church of Christ. He was a trusted adviser and counselor to many and full of wisdom and compassion. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary Carman; two sons, Charles Jerry Carman and James Patrick Carman; and a daughter, Beverly Carol Carman. Survivors include his wife, Jerri; a daughter-in-law, Patsy J. Carman of Hudson, Ohio; a son, George R. Carman and wife, Hilda, of Albuquerque; a daughter, Karen S. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Michael's and All Angels Church in Dallas. Arrangements are by Oak Cliff Funeral Chapel. Mr. Barras was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Port Arthur. He was a distinguished military graduate of Texas A&M, class of 1956 and a lieutenant colonel in the A&M Corps of Cadets. He proudly served in the Air Force and retired in 1959 with the rank of captain. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1962 and practiced law until August 2001. He was managing partner of Lumpkin, Barras, Reavis and Bunkley and later partner of Barras and Bunkley. He was a former director of Bank of the Southwest, Citizen's State Bank in Earth and First Federal Savings and Texas Commerce Bank in Amarillo. A member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, he was past president of Amarillo Knife and Fork Club, and a member of A&M Foundation, Amarillo Aggie Club and Amarillo Kiwanis. Survivors include his wife, Nina; a son, Richard Anthony "Rick" Barras of Dallas; a daughter, Melissa Ann Barras of Dallas; and a sister, Carolyn Barras of Port Arthur. The family suggests memorials be in the form of blood donations to Coffee Memorial Blood Bank or any community-based charity.
