He was the youngest of 13 children born to Levi David and Carrie Adelia "Lea" Cummings. He served in the Army as a medic during World War II. He served from 1941-1945. He married Hazel Lorene Stamps on Feb. 3, 1945, in Panhandle. He was a farmer in the Panhandle area for many years. He was a member of Panhandle Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Benny Cummings of Carlsbad, N.M., and Lenard Cummings of Amarillo; a daughter, Janis Roberts of Branson, Mo.; a brother, Walter Cummings of Levelland; two sisters, Loreta Biderwell of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Beulah Ivy of Canadian; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a Dumas resident from 1945 to 1966. She moved back to Dumas in 1982. She was an Amarillo resident for the past three years. Mr. Dorsett was born June 1, 1927, in Childress. When he died, he wished to be cremated. He attended school at Borger and Phillips and graduated from Borger High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and was in the Amphibious Forces. He married PreDetta Rose Chambliss on May 25, 1973, in Pampa. They then moved to Amarillo where they made their home. He was a cabinetmaker, carpenter and construction superintendent until his retirement. His hobbies were silversmithing, model airplane building, leatherworking and photography. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife on May 25, 1994; and a stepson, Jack Dorsett. Survivors include a son, Toby D. Dorsett of Borger; two stepsons, Gregg Chambliss of Amarillo and Jack Chambliss of Lorraine; two daughters, Debra McNeely of Gruver and Danise Galloway of Omaha, Neb.; three stepdaughters, Brenda Busby of Hereford, Detta Corona of Dallas and Kimbra Adair of Childress; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Walls was born Sept. 18, 1903, in Carson County to Richard D. "Dick" and Bessie Baker. She was the oldest daughter of one of the first families to homestead in Carson County. She was raised on the family farm west of Conway and attended Tony Ridge School. She married Roy Glenn Walls on Feb. 15, 1922. They resided in Carson County several years before moving to Potter County. She was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. She was active in Carson County Home Demonstration Club in the 1930s and 1940s and the Highland Park School PTA. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; three brothers, R.A. "Ross" Baker, Asbury Baker and C.B. "Clemmie" Baker; a sister, Blanche Jenkins; an infant son, Donald Kent Walls; and a grandson, Stanley Sellman. She moved to Amarillo in 1968 from Denver City. She married Billy D. Roberts in 1974 at Amarillo. She was one who never met a stranger and was loved by all. She was a bookkeeper for more than 40 years in Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and the BSA Better Breathing Club. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth E. She taught home economics at Happy High School and was a county district clerk in Randall County for eight years. She was a city secretary for Canyon, business manager for Neblett Hospital in Canyon and business manager of Swindell Heart Clinic in Amarillo. She owned and operated Mayfield Fabrics in Lubbock. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star in Canyon, member of Zonta International in Lubbock and Business and Professional Women's Club in Canyon. She was the daughter of J.A. and Nellie Edwards Sr., a pioneer family of Canyon, and cared for the family ranch after her father passed away. She was preceded in death by a son, George Mayfield in 1939. Anderson WARRENTON, Va. - Erva Elizabeth Anderson died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Virginia Beach. Burial was Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Warrenton Cemetery by Moser Funeral Home of Warrenton. Miss Anderson was born in Warrenton to Lloyd C. and Menora Coons Anderson. She attended Fauquier Female Institute and graduated from high school in Warrenton. She studied at Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. For a number of years, she worked for the Army at Fort Story and on Guam. She was assigned to the American Embassy in London and two cities in Germany until the early 1960s. She lived in Amarillo 14 years and returned to Virginia Beach in 1997. Miss Anderson was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Catherine Berenice Anderson Fox of Miami Beach, Fla., in 2000. He was 89. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Christian Church with Dr. John Bridwell, minister emeritus, and the Rev. Marvin James, minister of family life, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Fergason was born June 21, 1912, in Boyd. He grew up in the Joe Bailey community near Decatur. He graduated from Decatur High School and Decatur Baptist College with a teaching certificate. He completed a degree in Brownwood and later a master's degree from West Texas State University in Canyon. He began his teaching career in the Briar community near Azle, where he married Leona Naler. He moved to Falks Station near Electra and became principal of the junior high school in Electra. In 1944, he began his education career in Amarillo. He served as associate principal of Nixson and principal of Sam Houston and Crockett junior high schools. He then became principal of Tascosa High School, the position from which he retired in 1975. During his years at Tascosa, he served as president of Texas State Principals Association, served on the National Honor Society Board, and was on the University Interscholastic League board of directors and University Legislative Council. In the community, he served as president of San Jacinto Kiwanis Club and helped organize and establish Amarillo Community Center. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as chairman of the board during the time the church on Wolflin was built. He served as a deacon and elder and taught the Sunday school class of Come-Double. At the time of his death, he was an elder emeritus at the church. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Myrtle Sims of Fort Worth; three nieces; and a nephew. He was 93. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church Chapel in Lubbock with the Rev. Michael Passmore, the Rev. Jim Woodworth and the Rev. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with Masonic rites by Amarillo Masonic Lodge No. 731 and military rites by DAV Chapter 26. Mr. Whitaker was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Springfield, Mo. He moved to Amarillo in 1931 from Iola, Kan. He married Mary Elizabeth Reynolds on March 17, 1934. He owned and operated Tasty Pie Co. from 1936 until 1968. He was appointed Potter County treasurer in 1969 and held that position until retiring in 1984. He was currently a member of First Christian Church of Lubbock and was active in Harvesters Sunday school class. He was a more than 50-year member of Amarillo Masonic Lodge No. 731, Amarillo Chapter No. 196, Amarillo Council No. 134, Amarillo Commandary No. 48 and a longtime member of Lubbock Scottish Rite. He was recently honored with the Scottish Rite 32 Mason KKCH. He served as potentate of Khiva Shrine Temple in 1963 and was a member for more than 50 years. He was a life member of South Plains Shrine Club, Lubbock Shrine Mule Skinners and Lubbock Shrine Greeters. He was a 40-year member of Royal Order of Jesters and elected past impresario for the organization. He organized the Khiva Shrine Klown Unit in 1956 and served as president for 2 years. As a World War II veteran of the 17th Signal Operation Battalion, he was part of the invasion of Normandy beach on D-2 as a staff sergeant, serving for 2 years. He was a supporter of the Amarillo Gold Sox Baseball team and later the Amarillo Texans. He was president of the Gold Sox Booster Club for two years. He was a member of YMCA and American Legion Hanson Post No. 54. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Smith of Lubbock; a son, Richard Whitaker of Tres Ritos, N.M.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
