Mr. Cates was born Dec. 17, 1907, in Beaver, Okla. He was a retired farmer. Mrs. Williams was the deputy tax assessor from 1960 to 1990. She graduated from Perryton High School in 1932. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Virginia Louise Walker "Mrs. H. Joe" Franklin was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Amarillo, the daughter of Fred and Bertie Winnie Staph Walker. She was a 1944 graduate of Amarillo High School, a 1946 graduate of Amarillo College and an alumnus of Texas Tech University. At Amarillo High she was active in publications and Auxiliary of the Reserve Officer Training Program. At Amarillo College, she continued publications activities and was chosen Miss Amarillo College in 1945. On Aug. 2, 1945, she married Hans Joe Franklin of Amarillo at Clovis, N.M.; afterward taking up residence in College Station, where her husband was enrolled at Texas A&M. In College Station, she was a homemaker and became a mother with the birth of her son in May 1949. Following her husband's graduation in 1949, they moved to the Franklin Ranch. She was a resident of Gray County for the next 52 years until her death. In April 1952, she gave birth to the couple's daughter at Worley Hospital in Pampa. In 1955, she and her husband constructed a home in Pampa. She resided in the city until her death. She and her husband joined First Baptist Church of Pampa shortly after their move to Gray County in 1949. She served as a Sunday school teacher in the elementary and high school departments of the church, and as a vacation bible school teacher. Among her civic involvements was membership in Junior Service League. One of her duties with the league was management of Golden Eagle, a charitable second-hand shop. She served as trustee of Pampa Lovett Memorial Library Board from 1964 to 1984, holding at various times each of the board's executive offices. She served as the board's representative at the formation of Harrington Library Consortium. She was a member of Pampa Parent Teacher Association and acted as a sponsor and chaperone for student events at Pampa High School. She was a member of Twentieth Century Forum Study Club and chairman of its committee awarding scholarships to graduating PHS seniors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bertie Walker; and a brother, Scot Walker. Survivors include her husband, H. Joe Franklin; her daughter, Jean Anne Franklin McComas and husband, William Michael; her grandchildren, Katy Leigh McComas and Matthew Franklin McComas; her son, Richard Lawrence Franklin; her sister, Freddie Walker Mitchell and husband, Herbert; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James B. and Yvonne J. Franklin, William F. and Joan B. Franklin and Dr. T.E. Franklin. She was a second-grade school teacher in North Carolina and moved to Amarillo in 1968. She was a member of Potter-Randall County Medical Alliance and Amarillo Country Club. She was an active member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Edward Dowell officiating. Arrangements are by Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Terrell School in Dallas, Southern Methodist University and Southern Methodist University School of Law. During World War II he served his country as a commander in the Navy. He practiced law in the Panhandle for 50 years, first with Phillips Petroleum in Amarillo then 45 years with Cabot Corp. in Pampa. While in Pampa, he was an elder of First Presbyterian Church, co-founder of Pampa Fine Arts Association, co-founder of Genesis House and past president of Pampa Country Club. An accomplished painter, he was also named Artist of the Year. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Foster in 1998. Survivors include his brother, William A. Johnson; two sons, Homer D. Johnson Jr. of Houston and David Johnson and wife, Debra, of Dallas; and two grandsons, Benjamin Johnson and Samuel Johnson, both of Dallas. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 16, 2002 Dr. Lynn Ford Fite BONHAM - Dr. Lynn Ford Fite, 77, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Bryan and the Rev. Morgan Malone officiating. Burial will be in Arledge Ridge Cemetery. Dr. Fite was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Canyon to John Marvin and Malinda Angeline Foster Fite. He married Joyce Fite on Dec. 23, 1948, in Pampa. He served in the Air Force during World War II in Italy, France and England as a glidder pilot. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Mo., in 1951 and practiced medicine for a total of 39 years in Olton, Nederland and Bonham. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1257 in Olton, a past member of Lions Club and a member of Bonham Bass Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Fite; and a daughter, Cynthia Ann Fite. Pallbearers include Cody Towery, Kyle Towery, T.J. Fite, Jody Fite, Adam Fite and Steve Fite. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Grunert, Charles Durham, Wayman Walker and Paul Smith. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Towery and husband, Steve, of Bonham; a son, Scott Fite and wife, Elaine, of Denton; seven grandchildren, Cody Towery, Kyle Towery, T.J.
