Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sanford First Baptist Church with Ricky Griffin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Leonard was a native of Lawton, Okla. He graduated from Borger High School in 1978 and married Sherry Amanda Davis on Aug. 11, 1978. He was Mayor of Sanford and coached Special Olympics when the team won third place in state. He worked at Popular Supply and was an operator for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of Sanford First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya LeeAnn Leonard, in 1997. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shana Leonard of Sanford and Tasha Leonard of Borger; his parents, Dub and Mary Leonard of Borger; a sister, Eunice Lee White of Fritch; six nieces; and two nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2002 Walker Ray Hughes - Walker Ray Hughes, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Claude Cemetery with Kent Watson, minister of Claude Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Hughes was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Jacksboro and came from Byers to Claude in 1938. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He married Celine Eugenia Chauveaux on July 9, 1942, in Claude. He was an electronic technician most of his life before his retirement. He was a member of Claude Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Roy Hughes of Early; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2002 Glenn L. Markham - Glenn L. Markham, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Zybach Cemetery of Allison by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Markham was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Wheeler to Charley B. and Eula Seawright Markham. He had lived in the Wheeler area all his life. He was a commercial farmer and also office manager for A.S.C.S. in Wheeler and was also an office manager for Shepard's Crook Home Health Service of Wheeler for several years. He was a former member of the Wheeler city council and a veteran of the Army during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Allison where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in Canadian, the Disabled American Veterans Association and the 69th Infantry Division Association. He married Verna Belle Holbrook on May 1, 1937, in Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; a daughter, Glennis Wiebe; and two brothers, Cloyd Markham and Bob Markham. Survivors include a son, Rick Markham of Wheeler; three daughters, Martha Childress, Melinda Parker and Judy Richardson, all of Wheeler; two brothers, Cecil Markham of Lovington, N.M., and Ralph Markham of Bernalillo, N.M.; a sister, Avis Parker of Wheeler; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He came from a Church of Christ background. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy on the USS LSM 330. He was a 50-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 196 in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Dee Coleman. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Right Rev. LeRoy Matthiesen, retired Bishop, and Monsignor Francis Smyer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Vertreese was a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was born Feb. 2, 1915, to Romeo and Mary Ellen Sweet in St. Joseph, Mo. They moved to Wildorado in 1917. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1933 and St. Anthony's Hospital, school of nursing in 1938. She married John O. Vertreese on April 17, 1942. She was a head nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital for 30 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of St. Cecelia's Altar Society. She was loved by the rest of her extended family and many friends here in Amarillo and Enid, Okla. She was greatly loved by the staff of the Methodist Nursing Home in Enid where she spent the last year and a half receiving tender loving care along with excellent medical and nursing care. We, the children, are grateful and thankful to them for each and every kindness that was given to our mother. Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Sweet and husband, Mike Naples, Honey Jane and husband, Dr. Dan Washburn, and Mary Jeanne and husband, Rick Ayala; a son, John W. "Bill" Vertreese and wife, Karen; and grandchildren, Tiffany and Christian Mark Schupp, Liz and John Washburn, Ashley and Aimee Vertreese, Justin "Young Buck" and wife, Lisa, and Jeff "Python" and Amanda "Butterfly." Georgia St. Mr. Boothe was born in Girard on Dec. 24, 1932. He graduated from Lamesa High School and attended Abilene Christian University. He married Yuvonne Jackson in 1952 at Lamesa. He started working for Ben Franklin Retail Stores. He lived in Seminole prior to moving to Dalhart in 1958. He owned the Ben Franklin Store in Dalhart from 1958 to 1979. He served as an independent insurance agent until his time of retirement. He was a deacon for Western Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth. He was an avid golfer and member of Plum Creek Fellowship Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rory Boothe and wife, Vickie, of Bedford, Randy Boothe and wife, Carla, of Plano, and Ricky Boothe and wife, Joyce, of Amarillo; a brother, Ervy Boothe of Atlanta; and four grandchildren, Nicole Stevens and husband, Michael, of Lubbock, Chelsea Boothe of Bedford, Cally Boothe of Amarillo and Travis Boothe of Plano. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2002 New Mexico Myrl Kearl Robinson - Myrl Kearl Robinson, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in Leavitt's Mortuary of Ogden, Utah. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dunn Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, in Tucumcari. Burial was in the family plot of the Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park. Mrs. Robinson was born April 2, 1930, in Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended two years of beauty college and two years of Steven-Heneger College. She was a corporal in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a hospice volunteer for 11 years in Tucumcari. She was a clerk for the Naval supply department from 1958 to 1970 in Coronado, Calif. After retirement she and her husband moved back to Ogden for 18 years before moving to Tucumcari 13 years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Frank; 16 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
