Bates PAMPA - Thomas N. Bates, 77, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002. Memorial services will be at a later date in Tucson, Ariz. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel of Amarillo, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Bates was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Drumright, Okla., to Thomas C. Bates and Ora Powell Bates. He graduated from Miami High School and attended Texas A&M University and Oklahoma City University. He was a radioman in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Philippines and New Guinea. He married Bette Saunders in 1947 at Pampa. They lived in Oklahoma City for eight years and Tucson for 14 years. He was a former member of Kiwanis Club, VFW, NRA, Sheriffs Association of Texas and Tucson Shooters Club and taught gun safety. He was an avid hunter who won many awards in shooting. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Pampa. He taught young men's Bible training class in Tucson for 14 years. He retired from Dunlaps as assistant manager after several years. After retirement, he and his wife, Bette, enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed hunting with his metal detector. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; and a sister, Virginia Alison in 1998. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jon Tod Bates of Amarillo; a nephew, Ronald Allison and wife, Deb, of Abilene; two nieces, Rebecca Allison of Abilene and Cathy Hicks of Marana, Ariz.; and special friends, Ward Plato of Tompkinsville, Ky., Ray DeWitt of Pampa and Ralph McLaughlin of Laketon. Mrs. Jernigan had been a resident of Pampa most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Open Door Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Collinsworth was born Jan. 8, 1905, in Shamrock. She married Clinton C. Collinsworth on March 8, 1925, in Fort Worth. She had lived in Shamrock all of her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 29, 1987; a son, Charles Eugene; two brothers, Brian Bell and Glenn Bell; and two sisters, Geraldine Burrel and Zell Williams. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mr. Baxter was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Brashear, to John H. and Sarah Jane Moore Baxter. The family is especially grateful to his faithful caregiver, Norma Young, and to all others who provided care for him for four years. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Hale was born Sept. 17, 1943, in Turkey, to John "Buck" and Ora McKee Hale. In 1950 they moved to Hereford where he attended school and was quarterback for the Hereford Herd high school football team. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1962 and attended West Texas State University. He married Toni Parker on Dec. 28, 1963, in Hereford. In 1968 they moved to Hartley where he worked for Thompson Grain and Fertilizer, Coldwater Industries and Cargill. He attended Hartley Christian Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents. In 1959 they moved to New Mexico, where he was a businessman in Tucumcari, Clovis and Albuquerque until retirement in 1999. They ran a cow/calf operation on the family farm in Wheeler until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Glenn Cook in 2000. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Ryan Cemetery in Diboll. Mr. Davis was born Sept. 2, 1955, in Sherman. He was a true southern gentleman and will missed by many. He spent more than 20 years in the food service business where he was dedicated to customer service. He was a gifted musician and brought great enjoyment to all who heard him play. He served in the Navy during World War II and with the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He married Laurel Stinnett in 1975 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Amarillo. A resident of Amarillo for 35 years, he was owner and chief executive officer of The Emmett Group, a commercial real estate firm. In addition to his brokerage services, he was a lecturer on small business and franchises at Amarillo College. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Kiwanis Club, San Jacinto Masonic Lodge No. 1330 and numerous professional and business organizations including American Brokers Association. He was a charter member of Texas Association of Business Brokers.
