She was very active as a leader and board member of the Campfire Girls, a charter board member of the Hereford Day Care Center, a member of various women's golfing associations and a member of First United Methodist Church of Hereford. "Pete" Stein Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Stein was born Nov. 7, 1914, on the family farm in Cherokee, Okla. He graduated from Cherokee High School and attended Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1934 and OU Law School in 1936. After graduation from law school he was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association and practiced in Oklahoma City before moving with his bride, Alice Sutton, to Yoakum. While waiting to satisfy his residency requirements he worked as roughneck on a core drilling truck. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May 1940. He maintained a solo practice in San Antonio before being called to active duty at Fort Sill, Okla. He began his military career as a reserve second lieutenant and served as an artillery officer before leaving the service as a lieutenant colonel in 1946. His active duty lasted a little more than five years. He remained active in the reserves for several years following World War II and eventually reached the rank of colonel. After being discharged in Arkansas and brief stints in Oklahoma and Fort Worth, he came to Amarillo to practice law. While in Amarillo he helped build the law firm of Underwood, Wilson, Berry, Stein and Johnson, P.C. He practiced law for 38 years and retired as partner in 1984. He was active in Association of Defense Counsel and served as secretary in 1962 and Amarillo Bar Association, Texas Bar Association and Oklahoma Bar Association. He was appointed and served two terms as a member of Potter Randall Health Unit and was elected chairman in 1968. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Anne Stein of Albuquerque, N.M., and Nancy Besly of Crosby; two brothers, Leroy Stein and Don Stein, both of Cherokee; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Watson was born and raised in Hardeman County to James Henry and Cora May Watson. He was the youngest of six children. He served in the Army from 1944 until 1946 and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1946. He married Pauline Paslay in 1947 at Sedan, Kan. He worked for Asarco Zinc Refinery from 1951 until 1974. He started working for Asarco Copper Refinery in 1975 and retired in 1988. He worked for Asarco a total of 37 years. His friends there knew him as "Squeaky." He also drove a truck for Panhandle Concrete for more than 20 years. He was a longtime member of Vallyview Church of the Nazarene where he was active in the Bus Ministry. He was an avid bird hunter for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry William Watson, in 1957; his parents; and his siblings. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Kay Garrett of Yukon, Okla., and Carolyn McMinn of Haysville, Kan.; a son, Michael W. He worked as a pipefitter for 50 years and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 196. He married Lenora Taylor in 1952 at Tucumcari, N.M., and was a member of Southeast Baptist Church. She was a clerk in Amarillo for many years, working for Anthony's, Fedway and Montgomery Ward's before her retirement. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church as well as the Amarillo Elk's order of Does Drove No. 128. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include two sons, Don S. She married Elmer Leroy Meyer on Feb. 3, 1952, in Tucumcari, N.M. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Sharp, in 1984. He was a resident of Fort Worth for the last two years. He retired from Texaco after 20 years and was then employed by Santa Fe Energy. After his retirement he moved to his ranch in Canyon where he raised paint horses. Survivors include a son, Jack R. Mr. Lyons was born March 29, 1931, in Pampa, Texas, to R.W. and Velma Moore Lyons. He attended schools in Pampa, Canyon and Stratford, Texas, before graduating from Kemper Military Academy in 1950. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, before graduating from West Texas State University at Canyon in 1958. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army in Korea and Japan. He married Helen Verner on Sept. 4, 1955. They made their home in Pampa for several years before he went to work for Diamond Shamrock Corp. He retired in 1987 and they later made their home in Enid. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers; and a sister. Mrs. Fixsen was born to Ira and Marjorie Dawson on July 23, 1932, in Goodland, Kan. She attended and graduated from Sherman County Community High School in 1950 and attended cosmetology school in Topeka, Kan., in 1951. She married Ernest Robert (Bob) Fixsen on July 26, 1952, in Topeka. Her greatest accomplishment in life was in loving and giving to others. She also helped to establish the preschool in First Baptist Church of Dalhart and worked with migrant children in the public school in Plainview. She had participated in the hospice organization as a primary care attendant in Dalhart and was secretary/treasurer of the Mended Hearts Association of Amarillo. She was a former member of the PILOT Club in Dalhart. She was preceded in death by her parents. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2002 Virginia Hudson Mullins NOVICE - Virginia Hudson Mullins, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Walker Funeral Home Chapel of Coleman with the Rev. Kermit Sorrells, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in Novice (Rough Creek) Cemetery. Mrs. Mullins graduated from Texas Tech University in 1941 and taught for many years at Novice. She was an elementary school principal and was a member of Epsilon Sigma and Delta Kappa Gamma Societies, both international. Survivors include two daughters, Gina McCutchen of Bronte and Melissa Floyd of Kyle; a son, Jim Mullins of Novice; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at noon Tuesday in Greenwood Garden Chapel. Entombment will be in Greenwood Mausoleum by Greenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Roper was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Eastland. He was a resident of Fort Worth for the last two years. He retired from Texaco after 20 years and was then employed by Santa Fe Energy. After his retirement he moved to his ranch in Canyon where he raised paint horses. Survivors include a son, Jack R. Roper II and wife, Karin, of Keller; a daughter, Jene Patton; three grandchildren, Justin Daniel, Shane Roper and Shauna Mora; and two great-grandchildren, James Miner and Michael Mora. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2002 Oklahoma John B. Lyons ENID, Okla. - John B. Lyons, 70, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Dreamland Cemetery of Canyon, Texas. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home of Enid. Mr. Lyons was born March 29, 1931, in Pampa, Texas, to R.W. and Velma Moore Lyons. He attended schools in Pampa, Canyon and Stratford, Texas, before graduating from Kemper Military Academy in 1950. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, before graduating from West Texas State University at Canyon in 1958. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army in Korea and Japan. He married Helen Verner on Sept. 4, 1955. They made their home in Pampa for several years before he went to work for Diamond Shamrock Corp. He retired in 1987 and they later made their home in Enid. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers; and a sister. Survivors include his wife; three sons, John Lyons and wife, Clydene, of Enid, Steven Lyons and wife, Sheree, of Edmond and Michael Lyons and wife, Sheryl, of Portales, N.M.; grandchildren, Melissa Glenn, Emily Lyons, Ethan Lyons, Trevor Lyons, Megan Lyons and Tara Lyons; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Glenn and Shelbee Glenn. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2002 Canyon Elizabeth Jo Ann Fixsen Elizabeth Jo Ann Fixsen, 69, of Canyon died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Private burial will take place. Mrs. Fixsen was born to Ira and Marjorie Dawson on July 23, 1932, in Goodland, Kan. She attended and graduated from Sherman County Community High School in 1950 and attended cosmetology school in Topeka, Kan., in 1951. She married Ernest Robert (Bob) Fixsen on July 26, 1952, in Topeka. Her greatest accomplishment in life was in loving and giving to others. She also helped to establish the preschool in First Baptist Church of Dalhart and worked with migrant children in the public school in Plainview. She had participated in the hospice organization as a primary care attendant in Dalhart and was secretary/treasurer of the Mended Hearts Association of Amarillo. She was a former member of the PILOT Club in Dalhart. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Mickey Fixsen and wife, Jeanine, of Iowa City, Iowa, Timothy Fixsen and wife, Vickie, and Scott Fixsen and wife, Brenda, all of Amarillo, and Jay Fixsen and wife, Heather, of Dalhart; a daughter, Diantha Noyes and husband, Michael, of Boys Ranch; four brothers, Sylvan Dawson of Marion, Iowa, Gerald Dawson of Lutz, Fla., David Dawson of Boulder, Colo., and Mark Dawson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Ila Little of Placitas, N.M.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
