He was named Citizen of the Year in 1971 in Perryton, was past director of Perryton YMCA and was a member of Perryton Masonic Lodge. He was involved in broadcast and public relations management. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 26, 2002 Rev. Dr. Lynn Boyd Rankin RYDAL PARK, Pa. - The Rev. Dr. Lynn Boyd Rankin, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Roselawn Cemetery in Denton, Texas. Arrangements in Pennsylvania are by Helweg Funeral Service. Arrangements in Denton are by Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Rankin was born Nov. 8, 1908, the son of Frank Walter and Lula Belle Sharp Rankin of White Pine, Tenn. He grew up on the family farm on C.H. Rankin Road, the sixth of nine children. Upon graduation in 1931 from Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., he continued his education at Princeton Theological Seminary, receiving his divinity degree in 1934. Awarded the Fellowship in Church History and a financial scholarship, he then furthered his education with graduate study at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. After ordination in White Pine, a call was accepted to pastor Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Gap, near Lancaster where he served from 1935 until 1946. During this time he received both his master of sacred theology from Temple University in 1941 and his doctorate in sacred theology in 1944. He taught theology classes part time at Lincoln Seminary from 1943 until 1946. In 1946 he accepted a call as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville, Ky., where he served until 1952. From 1952 until 1963 he was associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Denton in 1963 to assume the position as stated clerk of Synod of Texas United Presbyterian Church. In the ensuing 10 years he served as executive director of the Synod Foundation and treasurer of both synod and the foundation. Additionally, he served as editor of Synod newspaper until his retirement in 1973. He married Lillian Bassett of Belfast, Md., in 1986 making their home at Rydal Park in 1987. He was preceded in death by his first wife, who he will be laid to rest near, Jessie Marianne Rankin, on Dec. 26, 1982. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Roy Rankin of White Pine; three children, Helen Rankin Hall of Denver, Franklin Rankin of Collierville, Tenn., and Douglas Rankin of Dallas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mayfield and the Rev. Jack Hooper officiating. Arrangements are by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Mr. Hibbetts was born May 28, 1912, to Mr. and Mrs. D.R. Hibbetts in Mineola. The family moved to Austin in 1928 and he graduated from Austin High School in 1929. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of business administration degree in 1933 and a master's of business administration degree in 1934. He was a proud member of the Texas Longhorn Band. Upon recommendation of his professors, he accepted a teaching position at Edinburg Junior College in 1934, and three years later went to McMurry College in Abilene as an assistant bursar and professor of accounting. He had assignments with Ben M. Davis and Co. in Abilene and in 1938 qualified for his CPA certificate. He went to Canyon as a professor of accounting at West Texas State College, and World War II interrupted his teaching career. Joining the Army Air Force in 1942, he was assigned to the contract audit division at Dayton, Ohio. After 46 months of service, he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. After the war, he joined H.V. Robertson & Co., a firm of certified public accountants in Amarillo, becoming partner in that firm in 1948. Prior to retirement in 1978, he served as administrative partner for the firm. He was instrumental in organizing the local CPAs as the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, in which he later held a variety of offices, including president. He was active in the Texas Society of CPAs. He was past president, honorary fellow and recipient of Meritorious Service Award of that organization and an appointee to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy from 1971-1977. He was a charter member of the Committee of Accounting Faculty Associates of the University of Texas at Austin and an honorary member of Beta Alpha Psi accounting fraternity. While living in Amarillo he was an active member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. He served as a member of the Official board, a member of the Pastoral Relations Committee and vice chairman of the board of trustees. He was a senior-active member of Rotary International, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and a member of Khiva Shrine Temple. Since moving to Austin in 1978 he had been a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church and Fellowship Sunday school class. In Austin, he was associated with Rotary International, Ben Hur Shrine Temple and Royal Order of Jesters, Austin Court 35. He and his wife were married 59 years. The family expresses gratitude for the loving care provided by the staff of Westminster Manor. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, James C. Hibbetts and wife Kay, of Dallas; two brothers, Ben of Austin and Harvey of the Woodlands; a sister, Jane Parris of Nacogdoches; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Kimberly, both of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.
