Amarillo Globe-News, March 5, 2002 Sanford Cletis "Bob" Fish ALANREED - Sanford Cletis "Bob" Fish, 84, died Friday, March 1, 2002. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in McLean Church of Christ with Dan Fish officiating. Burial will be in Alanreed Cemetery by Bailey-Ware Funeral Home. Mr. Fish was born to Joseph Daniel and Beulah Lee Fish on Nov. 6, 1917, in the community of Goldston north of Howardwick. He married Jeanette LaTreece Fort on Dec. 12, 1949, in Groom. He was a farmer, cattle rancher, business owner and property manager in Texas. After moving to California, he delivered pharmaceutical supplies for McKesson-Robbins in Los Angeles. A talented gospel singer, for many years he was song leader for Lefors Church of Christ, McLean Church of Christ and Van Nuys Church of Christ in Los Angeles. He belonged to several gospel quartets that gave concerts around the Panhandle. He was an elder in the Van Nuys and McLean Churches of Christ. He was a proud graduate of Alanreed High School in 1936. A gifted athlete, he played on several award-winning football, baseball and basketball teams. He was a strong supporter of the annual Alanreed homecoming. Amarillo Globe-News, March 5, 2002 Harley N. Dyer DIMMITT - Harley N. Dyer, 86, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Dickerson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens. Mr. Dyer was born in Addington, Okla., on April 19, 1915. He was the eldest son of one of the first oil field workers of The Texas Company, later known as Texaco. He began his work career as an oil field worker, continuing this in Montague County. In 1962, he moved to the Texas Panhandle where he used those same skills putting in underground water irrigation systems. He was owner and operator of Dyer Well Service in Dimmitt for many years. He married Elberta Howard of Montague County on Aug. 25, 1938, and together they raised a daughter. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Harlene Dyer Trlica of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandsons, Derek Trlica and Tom Trlica. Amarillo Globe-News, March 5, 2002 Amarillo Edyth Seewald Wells Edyth Seewald Wells, 98, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 3, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Jim Bankhead of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 7, 1903, in Amarillo, to Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Seewald who settled in Amarillo in 1891, moving from Tascosa. He opened P.H. Seewald's Jewelry Store, which was known throughout the Southwest. The last survivor of the P.H. Seewald family, she was one of 10 children. During her childhood the family lived in the old home, built in 1900, on Buchanan Street where the Civic Center now stands. She was educated in Amarillo schools. At 19 she went to Chicago to continue her education at Three Arts Club, where she studied voice and piano. While there she lived with her two sisters, Gladys and Margaret. At 22 years of age she returned to Amarillo to marry Joe L. Wells. They had three children. Her interests were many. Her love of travel took her around the world. She continued trips to visit family through her 95th year. Active in many women's clubs in Amarillo, she served as president of Junior League from 1942 to 1943 and was a charter member of Amarillo Junior Welfare League. She had a great love for the arts, especially music and literature, which were part of her everyday life. She delighted her family and friends by singing at their weddings and many social occasions. She charmed her family with her beautiful and often hilarious poetry. Her greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Wells Sawyers; and her husband in 1953. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Wells Hill of Sherman, Conn.; a son, Joe B. "Ed" Ferguson, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 3, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Donna Johnston of First United Methodist Church of Canyon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Ferguson was born Feb. 21, 1922, to John and Nellie Ferguson in Paris, Texas. He moved to Amarillo in 1939 from Spur. From 1939 to 1943, he worked for Furr Foods Grocery Stores. In 1943 he established his own small printing company, which he built into a large one. He did most of his work for Airspeed Oil, Texaco and Exxon until his retirement in 1985. He married Bettye Coffey in 1954, and together they had one daughter. In 1965, he married Joyce Barrow, whom he was married to until her death. He was preceded in death by his second wife on Feb. 9, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Mickye Ferguson Davis and husband, Michael, of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Amanda Michelle Ferguson Davis of Amarillo; his first wife; a special niece, Pat Williams and her family of Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters, Lola Summers and Ida Henderson, both of Amarillo; and a brother, Harold Ferguson of Portales, N.M.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was a member of Souls Harbor Church.
