"Ed" Ferguson B.E. "Ed" Ferguson, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 3, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum with the Rev. Donna Johnston of First United Methodist Church of Canyon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Ferguson was born Feb. 21, 1922, to John and Nellie Ferguson in Paris, Texas. He moved to Amarillo in 1939 from Spur. From 1939 to 1943, he worked for Furr's Food Grocery Stores. In 1943 he established his own small painting company, which he built into a large one. He did most of his work for Airspeed Oil, Texaco and Exxon until his retirement in 1985. He married Bettye Coffey in 1954, and together they had a daughter. In 1965, he married Joyce Barrow, whom he was married to until her death. He was preceded in death by his second wife on Feb. 9, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Mickye Ferguson Davis and husband, Michael, of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Amanda Michelle Ferguson Davis of Amarillo; his first wife; a special niece, Pat Williams and her family of Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters, Lola Summers and Ida Henderson, both of Amarillo; a brother, Harold Ferguson of Portales, N.M.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was 60-year member of Eastern Star Lodge 785. She was a member of Santa Fe Rose Lodge, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Mr. Manley was born Oct. 16, 1918, on Bivins Ranch in Potter County. He was raised in Higgins until he was about 16. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps where he obtained the rank of master sergeant. He married Theda Mae Siddens of Shattuck, Okla., on Dec. 14, 1943. They settled in Amarillo with their four children in 1956. They began their careers in the food service industry as managers of Beef Burger on South Washington. They then became owners and operators of their own chain of hamburger restaurants. Under the Manley's Huskey Burger name, they began with their first establishment on Amarillo Boulevard, and the chain grew to three restaurants in Amarillo and one in Lubbock. Retiring from the day-to-day operation of the restaurant in the late 1960s, he then founded and operated Manley's Ice Co. until his final retirement in the mid-1980s. During his life he was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he oversaw the children's bus ministries. During his retirement years, he enjoyed his gardening activities as well as devoting time with his children and grandchildren fishing. Survivors include two daughters, Janice N. Henry and Nancy E. Mantooth, both of Amarillo; two sons, Jack R. Manley Jr. of Pearland and Thomas Richard Manley of Bulverde; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 6, 2002 William "Bill" Gesch William "Bill" Gesch, 66, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 2, 2002. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Munderlohf Funeral Home in Walthill, Neb. Mr. Gesch was born in Tacoma, Wash, to Bill E. Gesch and Ann Juzek Gesch, July 18, 1935. He worked at Buckley and Boyds in Winnebago, Neb., for many years. He then worked at Iowa Beef Processors in Dakota City, Neb. In 1975 he transferred to Amarillo where he helped to establish the new IBP plant. He retired as maintenance supervisor at IBP in 1985. He lived "the retired life" until he started his own maintenance business, doing what he really enjoyed, fixing things. He married Bernice June Neiman on Dec. 16, 1954, in Walthill. He was loved and will be missed greatly. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Ann Brownrigg of Lexington, Neb.; a brother, Richard Brownrigg of Winnebago; two daughters, Kathy J. Mrs. Bodine was born June 4, 1906, in the Aberdeen Community of Collingsworth County, to John Wesley Ammons and Donna Tabb Ammons. She married Chester O. Bodine on July 31, 1927, in Aberdeen. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Daughters of the Confederacy. They lived in Cheyenne, Okla., from 1929 to 1940 when she returned to Aberdeen. She moved to Wellington in 1968. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968; a son, Winston M. Bodine in 1992; a grandson, Donald Scott in 1992; three brothers; and five sisters.
