He had lived in Shamrock since 1951. Mrs. Rice was born March 11, 1920, in Gracemont, Okla. She married Robert M. Rice Jr. on Dec. 23, 1935, in Duncan, Okla. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Hollifield was born May 15, 1932, in Little Switzerland, McDowell County, N.C., to Ethel and W.K. "Bud" Hollifield. He graduated from North Cove High School in 1950. He joined the Air Force and retired in 1971. He moved to Amarillo in 1976 and then to Turkey in June 2001. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Sylvia E. Hollifield in 1999; and her son, Joseph Forsbach in October 1998. Mrs. Ackers was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Lubbock and was a 1957 graduate of Monterey High School. She married Larry Ackers on Nov. 26, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was an X-ray technician employed by Dr. A.G. Barsh and was an active member of X-ray Society. Later she was employed br Dr. Royce C. Lewis. She was a member of First Christian Church and Keystone Bible Class. She was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Bailey. Amarillo Globe-News, March 27, 2002 Margaret Jean Bradford Guess WHARTON - Margaret Jean Bradford Guess, 73, died Sunday, March 24, 2002. Memorial graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Home. Mrs. Guess was born April 17, 1928, in Sweetwater, the daughter of Giles Edward and Hattie Corbet Bradford Sr. She was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and attended University of Texas. While in Sweetwater, she was the third state president of FHA. She was from a pioneer family in Sweetwater. Her grandfather Corbet was the first Marshal in Sweetwater and her grandfather Bradford was the first mayor of Sweetwater. She married Frank Guess on Dec. 4, 1948, in Austin. She and her family moved to Amarillo in 1951. She devoted her life to being a mother and volunteer in the community. After moving to Wharton in 1970, she began a second career as owner of Mr. G. Jewelers in Wharton for 23 years until her retirement in December 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton, DAR, DRT and UDC. She was a member of Wharton Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Rotarian of the Year Award. She also served as the head of the scholarship committee for Rotary Club. She was a former Pink Lady at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton and enjoyed working with numerous charity organizations. She was preceded in death by four sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lynn Rush and husband, Dr. J. Avery Rush, of Amarillo and Christy Kerr and husband, Andy, of San Antonio; and seven grandchildren, Jave Rush, Ryan Rush, Sloan Rush, Hayden Rush, Spencer Kerr, Philip Kerr and Paige Kerr. Amarillo Globe-News, March 27, 2002 Amarillo Joi Denise Henderson Wright Joi Denise Henderson Wright, 42, of Amarillo died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Orick, Calif. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Wright was born March 7, 1960, in Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital at Oceanside, Calif. She passed away in Orick after a long chronic illness. She was a 1978 graduate of Caprock High School, where she was a cheerleader during her freshman year and was a good student. She was married Aug. 2, 1982, in Grand Junction, Colo. She and her husband, Kevin, were the parents of Lindsay Katherine Wright, who is now 14 years old. Until sometime in 1988, she was employed as a draftsperson for CMS in Sonora, Calif. She was very artistic and creative. During 1998, she was granted a U.S. Patent for an invention that she hoped to market. Survivors include her daughter of Taos, N.M.; her parents, Kenneth and Betty Henderson of Amarillo; two brothers, Rusty Henderson and wife, Carol, of Amarillo and Brad Henderson and wife, Pam, of Bulverde; two sisters, Ginger Smith and husband, Gary, of Las Vegas and Sandi Owens of San Pedro, Calif.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Texas and California. McManus on May 2, 1942, in Melrose, N.M. She moved to Amarillo from Melrose in 1946. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 13, 1994. Amarillo Globe-News, March 27, 2002 Edna Mae Besk Edna Mae Besk, 77, of Amarillo died Tuesday, March 26, 2002. Private family services will be at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Besk was born June 4, 1924, in Fargo, Okla., to Alonzo Earl and Mattie Mae Cade. She attended grade schools in Fargo and Canadian. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1941. In 1940, she represented the state of Texas for Rainbow Girls at the Supreme Assembly in Cleveland. During World War II, she worked at North America Aviation in Inglewood, Calif. In partnership with her brother, Bob, they operated a restaurant in Barstow, Calif. In 1961 she returned to Amarillo, where she worked five years for Mildred Booker and then became deputy clerk at the city of Amarillo Municipal Court, where she retired in 1986. She was a member of Top O' Texas ABWA where she was past president and Woman of the Year. Survivors include a brother, Jerry Cade and wife, Rose, of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Ruth Price of Garland; five nephews; two nieces; four great-nephews; five great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces. He loved playing and singing country and western music.
