Asberry Thelma J. Asberry, 66, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 28, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hill Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes. Mrs. Asberry was born in Clarksville. She was an Amarillo resident for more than 40 years. Survivors include her husband, Freddie; three sons, Donald Asberry, Freddie Asberry and Robert Asberry, all of Amarillo; three brothers, Otis Jackson of Tulia, Monroe Jackson of Clarksville and Danny Jackson of Lewisville; six sisters, Doris Ross, Julia Jackson and Earnestine Washington, all of Clarksville, Shirley Jackson of Dallas, Virginia Jackson of El Cajon, Calif., and Bertha Gardner of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 1, 2002 Nellie Harriett Shelton Nellie Harriett Shelton, 85, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 30, 2002. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Gene Shelburne, minister of Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Mrs. Shelton was born in Pinola and had resided in Amarillo for most of her life. She worked as a cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy H. Shelton, in 1970; and a son, Dean Shelton, in 1977. Survivors include three sons, Curt Shelton, Ken Shelton and Rod Shelton, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Gail Campbell of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001. Amarillo Globe-News, April 1, 2002 Elsewhere Henry C. Moritz Jr. SAN ANTONIO - Henry C. Moritz Jr. died Wednesday, March 27, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston with full military honors. Arrangements are by Hillcrest Funeral Home of San Antonio. Dr. Moritz retired from the Air Force in 1976 as a colonel with 35 years of military service. Following his retirement he joined the Texas Department of Health as regional director of Public Health Region One and later of Region Six. Survivors include six children; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Leakey Library or the Leakey EMS in his name. Amarillo Globe-News, April 1, 2002 Canyon Sallie B. Allen Sallie B. Allen, 102, of Canyon died Friday, March 29, 2002. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dreamland Cemetery with the Rev. David Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Allen was born Dec. 8, 1899, to Fulton and Lucy Clem Dowlen Brown in Umbarger. She graduated from Canyon High School and received her bachelors degree in education from West Texas Normal. She taught for several years and then was a self-employed insurance agent. She married Clay Allen in Canadian. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Charley Brown and Herman Brown; three sisters, Docia Borders, Gracie Palmer and Corine Camp; and a niece, Carmen Camp. Survivors include a sister, Julia Long of Amarillo; several nieces and nephews; and two cousins, George Dowlen of Amarillo and Marie Manley of Canyon. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church of Clayton with the Rev. Bob Boyd, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home of Clayton. Mrs. Edmondson was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Union County to George W. Smith and Ada Ann (Winchester) Smith. She served as Union County Treasurer from 1962 to 1966 and again from 1976 to 1980. Survivors include three daughters, Patty Bogard of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Mayrie Lovin of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Betty Poche of Paulina, La.; a son, Billy Coit of Indianapolis; a brother, Harold Smith of Clayton; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Clayton.
