Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Cook was born May 14, 1923, in Floyd County and grew up in Childress. He moved to Plainview in 1936 and attended schools there. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served during World War II in the European Theater. After the war, he returned to Plainview and began working in the construction industry. He married Doris Campbell on Jan. 1, 1947, in Plainview. He became a general contractor and later formed the partnership of White, Belk and Cook. After retirement he owned and operated Lee Cook Co. and was a licensed real estate broker. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Additionally he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of both Masonic Lodges No. 1395 and No. 709. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Cook, in 1986; a brother; and a sister. He was a Dumas resident since March 2001, coming from Plainview. He served in the Army from 1948 to 1952 and was involved in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post in Plainview. He worked for various oil and gas related businesses, including Watson Propane of Dumas. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Tammie White and Elaine Welch; and three grandchildren. She married Raymond K. Schueler on July 30, 1949, in Friedheim, Ind. She was a member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Braille Workers, Friona Senior Citizens and Rhea Home Demonstration Club. Allen FRIONA - Charles E. Allen, 81, died Sunday, March 31, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Friona with the Rev. Joe Hubb Collier of Cushing, Okla., and the Rev. Mark Stovall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Allen was a Friona resident since 1935, moving from Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a naval aviator captain fighter pilot in the Marine Corps in the Pacific. He married Melba Riley Miller on May 25, 1958, in Bowie. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Friona where he served as a deacon. He had a long career with Friona State Bank. He started with the bank as a bookkeeper in 1946 and worked in all areas of the bank. He was named director of the bank in 1957 and served as executive vice president beginning in 1972. He was a graduate of the school of bank administration at the University of Wisconsin. He retired from the bank in 1985. He was active in civic affairs having been involved with United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club. He was a past president of Evening Lions Club and served as district governor of District 2T-1 in 1974. He served two terms as mayor of Friona in the 1950s and was chosen Friona's Man of the Year in 1972. He worked on the steering committee to establish Prairie Acres Nursing Home and served on its first board of directors from 1976 to 1978. He was a 50-year member of Friona Masonic Lodge. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 23, 1989. He graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1941. During World War II, he served with the Army 12th Armored Division, as a medical corpsman in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star among other citations. He retired in 1971 after 30 years of service with United States Department of Agriculture as supervisor with FMHA. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He and his wife were married 53 years. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a stepson, Sam Jacobs and wife, Paula, of Amarillo; and a grandson, Bryan Dale. Mr. O'Grady was born in Amarillo and had been a lifetime resident. He served with the Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's mate 3rd class. He was a route man for Panhandle Laundry for 45 years before his retirement in 1980. He visited many people as "Boppo" the clown. He was a member of Clowns of Renown, Circus Historical Society, Circus Model Builders Association and St. Laurence Cathedral. He was a very talented painter and cartoonist. The Amarillo Globe-News published many of his drawings during World War II. He was a lifelong animal lover. The honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Kelli Tucker Orford, Karen O'Grady, Holli Tucker, Timothy Tucker, John O'Grady, Erika O'Grady and Savannah Sullivan Humphrey. Mr. Thomas was born and raised in Dalhart and attended college at Texas Tech University and University of Texas Law School in Austin. He was associated with his father, F.E. Thomas Sr., in real estate, abstract and insurance business for many years, continuing his business after his father's death. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Dalhart Rotary Club and Dalhart Board of Realtors where he served as past president. In 1977 he and the late Caylor Caddell and their wives developed and managed Apache Development Co. Inc. He served in the Army for a period of time then joined the Air Force intelligence unit during World War II. He married Jeanne Boles in Dalhart in 1952. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. Survivors include two sons, Joseph Earl Groves Jr. of Drummond and David Omer Groves of Keyes; a daughter, Lena Marie Alexander of Boise City; a sister, Nora Lincoln of Forgan; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity and may be left at the mortuary.
