Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She received her RN from Brooklyn Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She moved to Texas in 1947 and was employed as a nurse at the Veterans Hospital then located in McKinney. It was there that she met her husband, Jay, who was a patient there. They were married in 1951 while he was a student at North Texas State University. They lived in several towns before settling in Mesquite in 1960 where Jay was teacher and principal. She was employed at Mesquite Memorial Hospital for many years before she retired. She was a member of the Richard Bard Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Helen Lane in the Creek Crossing Addition of Mesquite was named in her honor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Addie Town Ritchie and Benjamin Ritchie. The family moved to Guymon when he was 7 years old. After his mother's marriage to Leon Allen, they moved to the Allen Ranch in Beaver County. He attended Gate schools and graduated from Guymon High School with the class of 1947. He attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a two-year business degree. He obtained a degree in electronics from OSU and returned to Guymon to work for Curt's Inc. which later became Faris Brothers Appliance Store. He began farming in 1967 and retired in 1994. He was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and Guymon Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; a brother, Curt Faris; and a stepbrother, Robert L. Allen. Burial will be in Hilltop Memorial Park. Ms. Story was born Sept. 12, 1965, in Amarillo. She passed away following a lengthy battle with breast cancer in Dallas. She was a Methodist. She attended college in Weatherford, Okla. She had lived in Carrollton since 1987 and worked for Lab Corps of America. Even during her illness, she never complained, and showed us all what real courage is. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, but God needed a new angel in heaven. Amarillo Globe-News, April 10, 2002 Helen Elizabeth Ritchie Thompson JACKSBORO - Helen Elizabeth Ritchie Thompson, 82, died Monday, April 8, 2002. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Grace Episcopal Church in Mesquite. Private burial will be in DFW National Cemetery by Coker Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She received her RN from Brooklyn Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She moved to Texas in 1947 and was employed as a nurse at the Veterans Hospital then located in McKinney. It was there that she met her husband, Jay, who was a patient there. They were married in 1951 while he was a student at North Texas State University. They lived in several towns before settling in Mesquite in 1960 where Jay was teacher and principal. She was employed at Mesquite Memorial Hospital for many years before she retired. She was a member of the Richard Bard Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Helen Lane in the Creek Crossing Addition of Mesquite was named in her honor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Addie Town Ritchie and Benjamin Ritchie.
