Lowe MEMPHIS - Floyd E. Lowe, 88, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Travis Baptist Church with Tom Anderson and Johnny Snider officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home. Mr. Lowe was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Rubottom, Okla., to the late George Lowe and Mae Langley Lowe. He moved to Memphis in 1960 from Childress and graduated from high school in Empire, Okla. He married Cosette Denney Lowe on July 11, 1943. He was a self-employed restaurant owner and a member and deacon of Travis Baptist Church. He was an Army sergeant veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of American Legion and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 29, 1995. Survivors include a son, Jerry Lowe of Memphis; a daughter, Janice Bellah of Pampa; a brother, Aubrey Lowe of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Audry Burns of Weatherford, Okla., Beatrice Champion and Lucille Wivel, both of Corona, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 12, 2002 Geraldine S. "Jerry" Tisdale FRITCH - Geraldine S. "Jerry" Tisdale, 78, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Amarillo. Graveside services for close friends and family will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memory Lane Garden at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fritch Church of Christ with Richard Kasko, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. Mrs. Tisdale was born May 25, 1923, in Tuscahoma, Okla., and had been a Fritch resident since 1981. She was a bank teller for eight years each at Panhandle Bank and Trust and First National Bank. She married Aubrey Tisdale on Oct. 31, 1978, in Aztec, N.M. She was one of 13 children. She was a loving and sacrificing mother and was close to all. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mike Whitaker of Colleyville and Steve Spangler and Tom Spangler, both of Borger; two stepdaughters, Nikki Acker of Borger and Karen Newcomb of Greenville; a brother, Jack Bookout of Electra; a sister, Mildred Maggart of Fritch; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, April 12, 2002 Mary Miles Pigg WELLINGTON - Mary Miles Pigg, 86, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Pigg was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Hollis, Okla., to Morris Miles Kern and Myrtle Moore Kern. She married Kelly A. Pigg in January 1936 at Wellington. She owned and operated Pigg and Golson, a bookkeeping and tax preparation business. She was a longtime piano and organ instructor. She was a charter member of Wellington Music Club and a member of 1924 study club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was the church organist for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 8, 1987; and a brother, Harold Kern. Survivors include two sons, Harold Pigg and Kern Pigg, both of Lubbock; and four grandchildren, Martin Kern Pigg of Baltimore, Meg Pigg of Fort Worth, Molly Pigg of Washington and Kate Pigg of College Station. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Stringfellow had been a Panhandle resident since 1984. Prior to that, she was a longtime resident of Dumas. Survivors include a son, Kent E. Stringfellow of Panhandle; a daughter, Jean Carter of Lubbock; a sister, LaVerne Gardner of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, Wilburn Glick of California; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hartley Christian Fellowship with Dean Whaley, minister of Denver Avenue Church of Christ in Dalhart, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mr. Cosper was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Buford to Russell and Werlie Curry Cosper. He was raised around Buford and in 1948 he moved to Hartley. He farmed in the Hartley area for many years and after he retired he remained in Hartley. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was loved and admired by his family - they considered him one of God's most precious gifts. Survivors include his mother of Dalhart; a sister, Sallie Alexander and husband, Bill, of Austin; three nieces, Robin McLain and husband, Scooter, Melinda Barber and husband, Bill, and Lisa Keithley and husband, Jerry, all of Austin; six great-nephews, Ryan McLain, Russell McLain, Josh Keithley, Travis Keithley, James Keithley and Austin Douglas Keithley, all of Austin; three great-nieces, Robyn Barber, Elyse Barber and Melynn Barber, all of Austin; and a great-great-nephew, Matthew McLain of Austin. He married Judy Rowland in 1964 at Dimmitt. He worked as a mechanic for 39 years. He was self-employed most of that time. He was a member of Jeep Exclusive Inc. for 10 years. He sang with His Image Singers of Tulia for 17 years. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. He had served in the Army. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Dr. Randy Davis, pastor of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. McWilliams was born in Amarillo. He was a member of the 1948 Golden Sandies football team that won state runner-up. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1951. He retired from Coca-Cola Co. foods division after 24 years of service, during which time he received numerous awards. He was a member of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church, formerly Olsen Park Baptist Church. He married Charlotte Rinehart on Nov. 15, 1952. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Tom McWilliams Jr., Mark McWilliams and Laine McWilliams, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Betty Jo Reese and Bobbie Griffith, both of Amarillo; a brother, John Moore of Dallas; a grandson, Dustin McWilliams of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Alyssa Robertson of Amarillo; and a great-granddaughter, Makala Robertson of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, April 12, 2002 Oren "Frank" Carder Oren "Frank" Carder, 93, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Harold Green, family member of Yuma, Ariz., and Dr. Chester Beavers, retired minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Carder was born July 23, 1908, in Amarillo. He was the second of four children of C.W. and Kitty Jones Carder. This handsome young railroader took a Hereford girl, Willie Thurmond, to Clovis, N.M., and married her on payday, Oct. 16, 1929. She was working for the telephone company, and helping to raise seven siblings with an older brother and sister, a family of 10. This railroader from Amarillo and his bride celebrated more than 72 years of wedded happiness. The union produced a son, whose marriage of 45 years produced a grandson, two granddaughters, and nine great-grandchildren. He has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo since the age of nine. He worked for Santa Fe Railway as dispatcher for 50 years. He was a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge for more than 65 years. His life was made rich by the relationships he had with so many. He loved having breakfast every Thursday morning with his railroad buddies. He loved piddling in the garage, mowing his own yard, visiting his neighbors, recounting his numerous railroad stories with his grandchildren, as well as visiting the mountains of New Mexico. Honorary pallbearers will be Santa Fe Railway employees and retirees. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Alvin Carder; a sister, Phoebe Crouch; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Carder. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Carder and wife, Joan, of Borger; a grandson, Steve Carder and wife, Jan, of Canyon; two granddaughters, Debra Cluxton and husband, Todd, of Orlando, Fla., and Linda Astuto and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, C.W. Mrs. Rautis was born in Carrollton, Miss. She graduated from Texas Tech University and taught school for a period of time in the 1930s. She joined the Army during World War II. After her military service, she moved to California in 1944 where she worked for the state of California until 1976, when she returned to Texas. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Rautis, in 1996. Survivors include a nephew, J.T. Herrod of Fallon, Nev. Amarillo Globe-News, April 12, 2002 Juanita F. Jones Juanita F. Jones, 71, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 10, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Charles Jones of Second Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Mausoleum Chapel. Mrs. Jones was a world-class championship golfer. She is the only golfer to win the Amarillo Country Club Ladies Championship in five different decades. She had eight holes-in-one during her career. In 1986, she was named Golfer of the Year by the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame. At a time when women had little input, she was the first woman selected to serve on the ACC Green Committee. She married Dr. Tom Jones at a drive-inn wedding chapel in Yuma, Ariz., in 1953. She loved music, cooking and reading. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother and was blessed with many loving friends. She was the first woman elected to the board of directors of Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include her husband; a son, Tom Jones III of Amarillo; a daughter, Janet Jones Jordan of Dallas; other brothers and sisters; and three grandchildren, Amanda, Adam and Austin.
