Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole and Dr. Jeff Knighton officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. McCoy was a farmer, rancher and had also worked for North Plains Electric Cooperative as a line superintendent until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Perryton. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and a member of VFW. He received the Ochiltree County Soil and Water Conservation Farmer of the Year Award in 1992. He married Lillian Tevis on May 23, 1946. He later married Nella Nollner on June 7, 1982. They died together on the same day. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Mike McCoy and Robert McCoy, both of Perryton; three daughters, Donna Edwards of Perryton, Linda Arndt of Wellington, Kan., and Lola Parscal of Amarillo; a sister, Melba Jean Monden of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Spearman. She worked for Anthony's Electric in Spearman for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 17; her parents, Roy and Lois Nollner; a brother, Bobby Nollner; and two infant grandsons. Mrs. Adams had lived in Dumas since August 1994. She had last worked as a beautician. Amarillo Globe-News, April 19, 2002 Melvin Brown DALHART - Melvin Brown, 70, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Rusty Hancock, pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Perrin, to Woodfork and Roxie Galbreath Brown. He moved to the Panhandle area in the mid-1940s and began working on the Joe Scott Ranch. He married Betty Foust on June 10, 1951, in Dalhart. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. After returning to Dalhart he began working for Rita Blanca Electric Co-op, then XIT Rural Telephone Co-op before moving to Hereford in 1968. They returned to Dalhart in 1974 when he began working for GTE, retiring in 1991. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed carpentry, fishing, camping and his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and six brothers. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenny Brown and Mark Brown, both of Dalhart; two daughters, Barbie Swanson of Abilene and Beverly Smith of Dalhart; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, April 19, 2002 Paul Polasek DUMAS - Paul Polasek, 77, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Wheeler. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Dumas with the Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church, the Rev. Garry Schwalk, minister of education at First Baptist Church, and Eugene Polasek, son, officiating. Mr. Polasek was born July 8, 1924, in Caddo, Okla. He was a Dumas and Moore County resident since 1964. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dumas. He married Anna M. "Ann" Jones on June 4, 1950, in Floyd County. He retired from Excel Helium in 1969. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked for school districts in the Panhandle for 16 years. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 17, 1996. Mr. Davis was born in Knowles, Okla., in 1917. He and his wife, Jettie, were married in 1962. He lived in Spearman for 80 years, moving from Ponca City, Okla. He was a member of First Christian Church. He owned and operated Bill's Service Station for many years until his retirement in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999; and a daughter, Judy Sharleen Davis Gochnauer in 1997. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Kengle was born in Forreston and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1948. She had last worked in sales for Hub Clothiers. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, A.E. Shirley Chapter, and was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Kengle in 1968. Survivors include a nephew, Duane "Sam" Slaten of Amarillo; and three nieces, Shirley Craig, Jerry Moore and Beth Stork, all of Amarillo. The family will be at 4009 Seville in Amarillo. Local arrangements are by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Wassom was born in Lubbock. He attended Roswell High School in Roswell, N.M., where he became an All-American High School Football Player. In 1960 he joined the Navy where he was in the first graduating class of the Navy Seals. He served in the Vietnam War where he received 47 medals including the Purple Heart. He was discharged in 1964. He graduated from University of Texas at Permian Basin with a master's degree in archaeology. He moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Odessa. He married Barbara Butler on Dec. 28, 1984, in Clovis, N.M. He retired in 1987. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Joel Neal Wassom Jr. of Spring, James Wassom and Richard Butler, both of Amarillo, and Ryan Butler of San Antonio; three daughters, Lourie Winegar of Lubbock, Angie Leewright of Kress and Beverly Shannon of Forest; his mother, Hazel Courtney of Duncan, Okla.; a sister, Kathy Mickler of Park City, Utah; and 13 grandchildren. He later graduated from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., receiving a master of arts degree. He had numerous pieces of poetry published. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank B.
