Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church of Clovis, N.M., with Dr. Steve McElroy, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Memorial Park in Farwell by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Oppliger was born Aug. 18, 1981, in Amarillo. He attended schools in Farwell, graduating from Farwell High School in 2000. At the present time he was attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was a sophomore. He never met a stranger in his life and everyone he met and knew always remembered his wonderful smile. He was a member of Hamlin United Methodist Church in Farwell and attended First United Methodist Church in Clovis. Pallbearers will be Jourdan Nichols, Shane Roberts, Clint Corn, Tyler Chadwick, Ryan Roberts and Joel Barrett. Honorary pallbearers will be the Farwell Class of 2000 and all of his friends at the University of Colorado. "Bill" Cassel, 75, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Waggoner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic graveside rites by Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 and a flag presentation by American Legion Post 224. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Cassel was born Oct. 8, 1926, in El Dorado, Kan. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Wanda L. Cornutt on March 28, 1948, in Dumas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He had been a Dumas resident since June 1940. He was a resident of Tow since June 1996. He worked with his dad at Cassel Drilling Co. from 1946-1958. In March 1958, he went to work for C.R. Anthony and served as manager from 1961-1981 when he retired. He was a longtime member of Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 and was a volunteer for the National Park Service from 1990-1995. Survivors include his wife; a son, Duane Cassel of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Teresa C. Woods and husband, Ronnie, of Mount Holly, N.C., Debra J. Scott Schlotfelt, associate minister/outreach, and the Rev. Raymond Bowlin, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. O'Tanger was born in Canadian, was raised in Groom and later moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile and had served as their Queen, Order of the Eastern Star of which she was a past Matron, and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi which recognized her for 37 years of service in 1996 with the international service organization's Award of Distinction. The award had its inception in 1964 and only 209 BSP members worldwide have received the award and only 16 in Texas. She joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1959 and had served on the BSP's Amarillo City Council board of regents since 1974. She served as president of BSP's Laureate Epsilon Epsilon chapter and served on the board of directors of Girlstown from 1961 until the board was disbanded in 1987. She married Gene O'Tanger on Nov. 22, 1947, in Amarillo. She worked with the Plains Council of Girl Scouts from 1959 until 1967. She worked along with her late husband in the support of Shriner's Crippled and Burns Hospitals for Children from 1973 to 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994. Survivors include her mother, Cora Gard of Amarillo; a son, Danny O'Tanger of Gettysburg, Pa.; a daughter, Sharon Bland of Amarillo; a sister, Fern Catherall of Birch Tree, Mo.; and five granddaughters. Mr. AuHoy was born in Amarillo and had been a resident for 17 years. He was a 2001 graduate of Tascosa High School and was attending Amarillo College. He was a Christian. He was loved by his family and a host of friends. He was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying hiking, camping, snow skiing, the ocean and loved Palo Duro Canyon. He had a great sense of humor. Survivors include his parents, Janet and Sam AuHoy of Amarillo; a brother, Jonah Kamuela AuHoy of Amarillo; his grandparents, Gwen and Bud McCaulley of Amarillo and Fanny and Sam AuHoy of Kona, Hawaii; his great-grandmother, Henrietta AuHoy Norton of California; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Teel Herman L. Teel, 90, of Amarillo died Monday, April 22, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with his grandson, Steven L. Teel, pastor of Northern Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio, officiating. Private family burial will follow. Mr. Teel was born Aug. 18, 1911, at Welch, Okla. He attended John Brown Academy in Siloam Springs, Ark., and graduated from Northeastern State Teachers College in Tahlequah, Okla., in 1932. He married Esther Lowene "Pat" Rice in 1934, and they have been married 67 years. In 1936 he moved to Tulsa, Okla., and worked for Safeway Stores for 12 years. In 1946 he began a 30-year career with Stanolind Oil and Gas, now BP Amoco. He retired from Amoco Research Center in 1976. He was a longtime member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa and joined St. John's Methodist Church when he moved to Oklahoma City after retirement. He was active in his church and travel club. They moved to Amarillo in 1997 and resided at the Craig Methodist Retirement Community. He attended St. Stephen United Methodist Church until his death. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Teel and wife, Alice, and Ken Teel and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren, Kathy Langford and husband, Rob, Steve Teel and wife, Kris, Andy Teel and wife, Laura, Tracy Schaller and husband, Mark; and 12 great-grandchildren. "Doc" Hamilton, 80, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Texhoma St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Hamilton was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Nixa, Mo., to Charles and Virginia Maybry Hamilton. He served in the Army from Nov. 17, 1942, to Sept. 27, 1945. During his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Purple Heart for wounds received in the European Theater, Nov. 19, 1944. He moved to Texhoma from Pierce City, Mo., in 1972. He married Audrey Lindorfer Hackler on Aug. 19, 1983, in Raton, N.M. He worked as a myologist and reflexologist and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and American Massage Therapist Association. Pallbearers will be Jess Smith, Mertis Vail, Mike Tanquary, Jerry Harland, Randy Alexander and Raymond Tanquary. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister. Amarillo Globe-News, April 25, 2002 Canyon Jack Taylor Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Clark Williams, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Taylor, a lifetime resident of Canyon, was born Aug. 1, 1918, into a Panhandle pioneer family, and was active in the economic and political development of Canyon. After graduating from Canyon High School, he attended West Texas State University and served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. While at WT, he and his future wife, Helen, were crowned "Dance Queen and King," a tradition they kept up by dancing once a week at the Amarillo Club until shortly before her death in April. He was in the grocery and lumber business with his father and two brothers and remained active in the family business and as a land developer and investor until his death. In the 1950s, he hosted the early morning Farm and Ranch Show on KGNC radio. A past president of Panhandle-Plains Historical Society, he was a donor to Panhandle-Plains Museum. He and his family donated land to the city of Canyon for the development of a city park area. He served as a past County Democratic Chairman for Randall County. An avid traveler, he and his wife were interested in people and cultures from all over the world, particularly Africa, where they traveled many times. An intense family man, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and love of people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Annie Cravens Taylor; his brothers, Wilford II and Lindsey Taylor; and his dear wife, Helen Gillmore Taylor. Survivors include three daughters, Janet Ann Taylor of Amarillo, Cynthia Taylor Mills of Dallas and Shelley Taylor Marcos of Pflugerville; four grandchildren, Emily Martinez-Elder, David Taylor Mills, Andres Daniel Martinez and Brandon Marcos; a great-grandchild, Marley Dru Martinez-Elder.
