Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Fred Palmer, pastor of Carpenter's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Dennis was born Nov. 19, 1930, and attended school in Clovis, N.M. He moved to Pampa in 1969. Survivors include his wife, Eva; a son, Greg Dennis of Lubbock; a daughter, Rhonda Hamel of Alpharetta, Ga.; a brother, Ed Dennis of Roswell, N.M.; two sisters, Maxine Garrett of Ruidoso, N.M., and Dorothy Grant of California; and five grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 1, 2002 Clara Mae Carter CLARENDON - Clara Mae Carter, 94, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Pampa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church in Clarendon with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Carter was born Oct. 15, 1907, in DeLeon. She married Amul Cyrus Carter on July 24, 1927, in Camey, Ark. She came from Arkansas to Lelia Lake in 1928, then moved to Clarendon in 1945. She had worked at Dixie Cafe, Jake's Steak Out and Mrs. Bromley's Restaurant in Clarendon. While employed at Mrs. Bromley's, she was written up in Texas Monthly Magazine as "The Fastest Waitress in the West." Later she was the cook for Clarendon Chamber of Commerce. She joined First Baptist Church in Lelia Lake in 1932 and later became a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 17, 1970; a sister, Laverne Howard; a brother, Guy Daniell; and a grandson, Adam N. Carter on April 29, 2002. Survivors include three sons, Garth Carter of Clarendon, Jimmy Carter of Amarillo and Neel Carter of Miami; two sisters, Mary L. He married Carol Peterson on Nov. 28, 1964, in New Mexico. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marjorie Griswold of Yukon; and two grandsons.
