Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today in Our Lady of Angels Chapel at Sancta Maria Convent with Monsignor Monroe Matthiesen officiating. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel with Monsignor Monroe Matthiesen and Monsignor Raymond Crosier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Black was born Feb. 14, 1913, in Denver. She began studying art at the age of 13. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1931, and received her bachelor's degree from West Texas State University and her master of arts from Eastern New Mexico University. On Dec. 26, 1936, she married Dr. Axel Johannes Black Jr. Following the death of her husband, she began a 21 year teaching career, during which time she was head of the high school art department in Muleshoe. Among other honors she was named in 1965, Teacher of the Year for Muleshoe School District and again in 1966. During the 1969-1970 school year, the Muleshoe High School yearbook was dedicated to her. On April 30, 1970, she won first in oil media at Muleshoe Annual Art Exhibit, which boasted 226 pictures from numerous towns in the Tri-State area. On May 16, 1975, she was named First Lady of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi Chapters of Muleshoe for outstanding community contributions in the Muleshoe area. She was a devout Catholic who was active in catechetical work for many years. In 1985, she became a professed Third Order Secular Franciscan. She resided in Panhandle since Oct. 31, 1994, and she had been at St. Ann's Nursing Home since 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 13, 1961. Survivors include three sons, John Black of Lubbock, Thomas Black of Pueblo, Colo., currently of Panhandle, and Nick Black and wife, Jaton, of Amarillo; a daughter, Mother M. Bernadette Black of Panhandle; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1942 from Texas A&M. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Dr. Paul E. Georgia St. Mrs. Meroney married A.C. Meroney in Clovis, N.M., in 1931. He passed away in 1977. They moved to Panhandle and started farming in 1946. She was a member of First Christian Church in Panhandle. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include a son, Lloyd Meroney of Panhandle; and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Briscoe was born Oct. 15, 1912, in Hollis, Okla., to James Thomas and Dovie Elizabeth McWilliams Willingham. She graduated from high school in Hollis. She married James Elton "Duffy" Briscoe sometime in the 1930s in Oklahoma. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1953, moving from Drumwright, Okla. She worked with her husband, who was manager of the downtown C.R. Anthony store in Pampa until his death. Traveling and living at home were her retirement passions. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967; her parents; a sister, Thelma V. Willingham Dellinger of Durant, Okla.; and a nephew, Thomas Edroy Willingham of Irvine, Calif. Survivors include a brother, Edwin "Ed" Willingham Sr. and wife, Lillian, of Richmond; and two nephews, James Edwin Willingham Jr. and wife, Judy, of San Antonio, and Warren Shelby Dellinger of Bokchito, Okla. Mr. Ezell was food and beverage director for the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles for 21 years until it closed. He then began to travel extensively throughout the United States in his motor home. He was a caring father and grandfather to his family and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed. Amarillo Globe-News, June 4, 2002 Michael "J.Mike" Davenport Michael "J.Mike" Davenport, 62, of Amarillo died Saturday, June 1, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McClean, senior pastor, and the Rev. Bill Wade, pastor of Buchanan Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by Amarillo-based Marine Corps Reserve Unit. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Davenport was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 18, 1939. He was from Amarillo. He was a member of Amarillo Chapter of Harley Owners Group, (HOG) Association and a Texas Panhandle Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame Inductee. He was a former radio announcer, known as "J.Mike" and "Granny" for KPUR, KDJW, KGNC, Q-107 (KHBJ) and a disk jockey at the Caravan Club in Amarillo for many years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and served in the Marine Corps. Survivors include his girlfriend of many years, Jackie Bell; a son, Tim Davenport of Amarillo; two brothers, Kelly Davenport of Lees Summit, Kan., and Rodney Davenport of Dallas; a grandson, Ashton "Little Dude" Simmons of Amarillo; and a goddaughter, Kristina Borneman of Amarillo. They owned and operated International Harvester Implement Co. in Alton for many years. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968. Survivors include four sisters, her twin, Wanita Turney of Amarillo, Gladys Belew of Paris, Charlene Mise of Lubbock and Constance Eubanks of Amarillo; and a brother, Harvey S. Mrs. Tarrant was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Sipe Springs, Comanche County, to Robert and Rosa Jones Holder. She was a graduate of Baird High School and lived in Abilene most of her life. She worked as a dorm supervisor at Abilene State School for 18 years, retiring in 1987. She was a faithful mother and grandmother, active in the activities of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Wilbur Holder.
