Hummer BOOKER - Mary V. Hummer, 98, died Friday, June 7, 2002. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church of Perryton with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Knighton and Ralph Maxfield officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hummer was born in Mutual (Indian Territory), Okla., to Levi and Leota Morgan, on Sept. 26, 1903. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Booker. She married Dave Hummer on March 3, 1921, in Arnett, Okla., a marriage which lasted 71 years until his death in 1992. After marriage they settled on a farm north of Huntoon where they made their home until 1962 when they built their home four miles west of Booker. At the age of 10, she made her confession of faith in Christ and was baptized in Mutual, Okla. This faith never wavered and along with her husband, who also embraced a deep Christian commitment, they established a home built on Christian values. She will be remembered by her faith, her service to others, her wit and her love. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; a daughter, Marjorie Urban; a son, David Hummer; her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include four daughters, Pauline Duke of Big Cabin, Okla., Mary Hummer of Amarillo, Martha Hall of Booker and Florence Conley of Perryton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was an Amarillo resident for more than 50 years. She retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. She married Billy "Rex" Terry on April 28, 1962, in Amarillo. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Brownfield Cemetery of Brownfield. Mr. Perez was born in Alice and had lived in Amarillo for 15 years. He had been a heavy equipment operator in oil field services. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ramario Perez, on Dec. 6, 2001, in Amarillo. Survivors include a son, Alfonso Perez, of Alice; four sisters, Mary Morales and Elva Flores, both of Amarillo, Susie Medina of Brownfield and Alice Barron of Lubbock; and a brother, Jesse Perez of Brownfield. Bill Ward of Northview Christian Church in Taylor officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Ward was born June 15, 1927, in Canton, where he grew up on a farm and attended school. He came to Amarillo in 1951 as a tax appraiser, and the same year, he married Loyse Hudson Ward in Amarillo. He was employed as a registered professional appraiser for Pritchard and Abbott for 42 years. He held membership in Texas Association of Assessing Officers and County Tax Assessors Association. He was a member of Bivins Foundation Board and served as a deacon and elder at West Amarillo Christian Church for many years. He will be remembered for the love of his family and church. He was always ready to give wise advice and to be the advocate of those in need. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bill Ward of Taylor, and Jim Ward and Paul Ward, both of Amarillo; three grandchildren, David Ward of Navasota, Crista Ward of Plano and Tracie Norrid of Amarillo; and two sisters, Jackie Shinn of Canton and Ruth Richards of Huntsville. He was a graduate of The School for the Blind and taught guitar lessons in Amarillo for many years. He was a member and played piano at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lala, in 1975. She retired from the O.M. Franklin Serum Co. where she had worked as a laboratory technician. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church where she was active in the Lydia Sunday School class and worked with the Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a member of the A.E. Shirley Chapter No. 986, Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron in 1964. She married Dean Cleere in 1953 at Clovis, N.M. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe after their retirement. She was a caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother who held strong in her faith. Her spiritual gift was mercy and she displayed graciousness, a smile and a witty sense of humor. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Glenda Hunkapiller of Renton, Wash.; two sons, Dr. Carroll E. Cleere of Tulsa, Okla., and Kenny Cleere of Amarillo; a sister, Thelma Buck of Odessa; two brothers, Frank Wood of Amarillo and Cecil G. Wood of Littleton, Colo.; a son-in-law, Waren Hunkapiller of Renton; two daughters-in-law, Janice Cleere of Tulsa and Donna Cleere of Amarillo; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a multitude of relatives and friends. Mr. Jennings was born in Liberty Hill and had lived in Amarillo since 1941. He was a salesman for Minuteman Gourmet Foods. He was former owner of Dino's Drive Inn and is recognized as one of the "Faces of Amarillo" in the Canyon museum. He served in the Army during the Korean War. New Jr., in 1980. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Cardinal of Okmulgee, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was born in Weimar and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University. He worked for Cargill Animal Nutrition in Guymon, Okla., as a merchant. He grew up in the United Church of Christ and attended St. Luke Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Schoen. Osage St. Mrs. Howell was born in Howland. She lived in Amarillo for more than 40 years. She was a devoted mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cotton Howell, in 1985. Mr. Brown was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on Dec. 1, 1940, to Frank T. Brown Sr. and Marion (Mausteller) Brown. He married Mary E. Van Horn on Jan. 3, 1973, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Levi Brown of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Frank Brown III of Puyallup, Wash.; two daughters, Leslie Reddick of Puyallup and Kelly Brown of Clayton; a brother, Eddie Brown of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, June 9, 2002 Canyon Clyde Bishop Keith Clyde Bishop Keith, 92, of Canyon died Friday, June 7, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hope Cemetery of Henrietta with Arnold Holley officiating. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Keith was born to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bishop Keith and Ira Keith in Clairette, Erath County, on March 9, 1910. This was the same year West Texas Normal School for Teachers was established, now known as West Texas A&M University. He grew up in Ralls, was baptized at a camp meeting and graduated from Ralls High School. He attended West Texas University and obtained his degree in Industrial Arts. He was a basketball coach and superintendent at Hartley. He married Willie Faye Zachry on Sept. 11, 1936, in Randall County. They moved to Clovis, N.M., and then to oil boom town, Denver City. He was a teacher and carpenter for 39 years. He also worked in the oil fields for several summers. He was a member of the Lions Club in Denver City, serving as club president and participated in several other civic projects. He and his wife moved to Canyon when they retired in 1974. He served as Canyon Lion Club (International) President in 1981 and 1982, where he encouraged people to serve their community at every opportunity. Survivors include a daughter, Karolyn Keith of Canyon; a son, David Zachry Keith and wife, Patricia, of Dimmitt; and two grandsons, Kris Keith of Austin and Michael Keith of Canyon.
