Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Clifford Dane, of First Baptist Church in Dalhart, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Locke was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Dalhart to George E. and Blanche (Woltman) Locke. He attended Dalhart High School. In 1938 he played on the only men's basketball team to go to the state playoffs. He was a veteran of World War II and served on the aircraft carrier USS Makin Island. He was a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad and had worked for Red White's Farm and Ranch. Survivors include two daughters, Donnell Farnum of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Denise Keep of Billings, Mont.; a son, Max Locke of Warland, Wyo.; a sister, Helen Childers of Dalhart; two nieces, Terri Miller of Dalhart and Carolyn Sherrod of Canyon; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Mitchell was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Forgan, Okla. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1969. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Coats was a retired office manager for Prudential Insurance Co. She desired that her body be donated to science. Survivors include a son, Dick Coats of Childress; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, June 15, 2002 Thomas Sheldon DUMAS - Thomas "Tom" Sheldon, 64, died Thursday, June 13, 2002. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Don Rogers, pastor of First Baptist Church in Beaver, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. Sheldon was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Dumas. He had been a resident of Dumas his entire life. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1956. He worked as a truck driver for Seminole Transportation. He belonged to Promise Keepers and the Auditorium Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. He married Jackie Green on May 10, 1974, in Dumas. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beth Penland and husband, Kelly, of Beaver; his mother, Nola Sheldon of Dumas; a brother, Charles Sheldon Jr. of Dumas; two sisters, Bert Clifton of Dumas and Sylvia Spray of Las Cruces, N.M.; a grandson, Chris Penland of Beaver; and a granddaughter, Lacey Penland of Beaver. The family will be at 216 Spruce. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to the Chris and Lacey Penland Scholarship Fund, in care of Terry Sheldon, P.O. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Robertson, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Maddox lived in Childress for more than 50 years. She was the church secretary for First United Methodist Church for many years. Survivors include two sisters, Josephine Davidson of Hulver and Virginia Davidson of Lubbock. Dean Driver, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Harper was born June 17, 1903, in Lone Wolf, Okla., to the Rev. R.P. and Sarah Isabell Bates. She was a resident of Oklahoma City for more than 40 years before moving to Shamrock in 1976. She was a member of the Samnorwood Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Harper; two daughters; two sons; her parents; seven brothers; a sister; and a grandson. Survivors include two sons, Joe Lenderman and wife, Emy, of Samnorwood and Richard Harper and wife, Sylvia, of Choctaw, Okla.; two daughters, Bobbie Snead and husband, J.C., of Samnorwood and LaVelle Morgan and husband, Fred, of Pottsboro; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Muleshoe with the Rev. Stacy Conner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Watson taught in the Muleshoe schools for 25 years. She lived in Lubbock for 4 years before moving to Muleshoe where she lived since 1941. Survivors include several cousins. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church chapel with John McCourt, Church of Christ minister of Havana, Ark., officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery of Booneville, Ark., by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. McCormick was born March 22, 1917, in Blue Mountain, Ark. He married Tensie Grau on Jan. 8, 1950. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nadine Rogers of Booneville; three sons, Ken McCormick of Amarillo, Gary McCormick of Plainview and Ralph McCormick of Russellville, Ark.; two brothers, Jimmy McCormick of Shreveport, La., and Bobby Winfield of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Fry was born in 1927 in Ipswich, England. She married Clarence Fry in 1948 in Ipswich. She moved to Amarillo on June 8, 2002, from Pampa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Fry, in 1995. Survivors include a son, Dr. Chris J. Fry of Edmund, Okla.; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann of Ricketson, Pa.; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Amarillo Globe-News, June 15, 2002 New Mexico Martha Jean Baird CLOVIS, N.M. - Martha Jean Baird, 67, died Monday, June 10, 2002. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery at Tucumcari. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Baird came to Clovis in 1961. She cared for the elderly as a home care worker. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Kerr of Texico and LaDonna Leal of Clovis; two sisters, Lou Carthers of Clovis and Pat Silvely of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 15, 2002 Elsewhere James Riggins Jr. PHOENIX - James Riggins Jr., 75, formerly of Borger, Texas, died Monday, June 10, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Brown Funeral Directors, Chapel of the Fountains, with Melvin Brooks, pastor of St. Stephen's Baptist Church in Clarendon, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery of Borger. Mr. Riggins was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a railroad worker. Survivors include a cousin Julia Williams of Borger, Texas. Amarillo Globe-News, June 15, 2002 Robert Dulah Wiginton DUNCANVILLE - Robert Dulah (R.D.) Wiginton, 80, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Jaynes Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Mr. Wiginton was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Lesley (Hall County), the fourth child and first son of Dulah Wiginton and Mary Ollie Stephenson Wiginton. He lived and attended school in the Lesley and Lakeview communities until 1939 when he moved with his family to Hedley. He graduated from Quail Rural Consolidated High School in 1941. After graduation he moved to Dallas where he was employed by North American Aviation. He married Omelee Hill on Nov. 18, 1942. Inducted into the Army in 1944, he did basic training at Camp Fannin in Tyler and was immediately shipped to the European Theater as a replacement soldier in Patton's Third Army. Wounded on March 28, 1945, as the Allied Forces were advancing on the Rhine River, he spent the next six months recovering in hospitals in France and England and finally Fort Sam Houston hospital in San Antonio where he was discharged in September 1945. He returned to Dallas in 1945 where he continued to live and work for General Motors dealerships. He worked for Van Winkle Motor Co. for 27 years and Henry Butts Oldsmobile for eight years when he retired in 1985. He was an avid fisherman and spent his retirement years happily fishing on most every lake in Texas and especially Lake Palestine. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, L.M. Wiginton; and two sisters, Lettie Goodnight and Charlcie Woods. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherrie Betham and husband, Rich, of Double Oak; a sister, Jackie Ranson of Giles; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hill of Norman, Okla., and Floye Wiginton of Memphis; brothers-in-law, W.H. Goodnight of Memphis and Clifford Woods of Houston; a grandson, Brian Betham of Lewisville; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
