Mrs. Patching was born May 26, 1907, in Bennett, Iowa, to Joseph and Electa Ann Francy. She moved with her family by rail train to Happy when she was 9 months old. She attended school at Childress and Sunny Slope country schools before the school opened in Happy. She also attended Canyon Normal School. She married Edgar T. Patching on Sept. 1, 1926. A pioneer woman in Swisher County, she was a housewife and active in community activities. She was a founding member of the Presbyterian Church in Happy. She was a member of The Woman's Study Club, Happy Music Club, Eastern Star and Presbyterian Women. After her husband passed away in 1959, she worked at Warren's Department Store in Canyon and became a dorm director at West Texas State University and Northern Arizona University. She moved to Tulia in 1983, where she was very active in Swisher County Senior Citizens. She led their exercise classes until she was 86 years old. She moved to McLean Care Center in 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bob, in 1984; four sisters, Nell Jordan, Gladys Francy, Faye Wheeler and Joyce Deal; and a brother, Robert Francy. She graduated from Pampa High School as salutatorian and attended Texas A&I University before transferring to West Texas State University. She graduated with a bachelors degree in chemistry in 1953. She worked as a chemist at Cabot Corp. before pursuing graduate work in physical chemistry at Washington State University. She married W. Mitchell Jones Jr. in 1954. They moved to Amarillo in 1969. She was ways and means chairman of Amarillo Symphony Guild for two years and served a three-year term on the Campfire Board. She was active in Planned Parenthood Circle of Friends. She became a charter member of the docents at Amarillo Museum of Art in 1971. She served as a trustee of the museum and later became head of the installation committee. She was active in Panhandle Archaeology Society, serving as president of the local society. She was appointed to the board of directors of Texas Archaeological Society in 1989, serving until 1996. In 1983, she graduated with a master's degree from University of Oklahoma Liberal Studies Program. During her graduate studies, she authored the Amarillo Art Center's "Handbook for Art Handlers" in 1981. The publication was revised in 1987. She served an internship and worked at the conservation center at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon. She became registrar of Amarillo Museum of Art in 1985. She served as interim director of the museum for a year in 1990. She was collection manager for the museum until January 2002. In 1991, she was given the Distinguished Service Award as woman of the year in the arts by Amarillo Women's Forum. She served on Opportunity School Board, West Texas A&M Alumni Association Board and WT Foundation Board. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Amarillo PEO, Chapter B. She was a member of American Association of Museums, served on the registrar's committee of Texas Association of Museums and the Collection Manager's Committee of the Mountain Plains Museum Association. She was a member of National Association of Museum Exhibitors, the Southwest Association of Conservators and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Art in Public Places Committee. She served several years as a grant reviewer for National Institute of Museum Services. Survivors include her husband; three sons, David Jones and Sam Jones, both of Amarillo, and Adam Jones of Austin; a daughter, Molly Brumbeloe of Lumberton; two sisters, Bobbie Silcott of Lubbock and Tessie Burba of Wellington; a brother, Jim Killian of Kilgore; and six grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 23, 2002 Addison Alexander Nalley Jr. Addison Alexander "Add" Nalley Jr., 86, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 20. 2002. Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Nalley was born in Itasca on Feb. 15, 1916, one of eight children. He had been a resident of Amarillo for more than 50 years. After serving time in the Army, spending a lot of that in the kitchen, Add found a gift. For approximately 50 years, Add was a restaurateur in Amarillo. From the Musical Pig on Sixth Avenue, White Lunch Box at Eighth and Taylor, Royal Pig on 10th Avenue, Add's Grill and on to the Grand Bowl on Grand and then the Western Bowl on Western, where he semi-retired in 1993. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. All the customers and friends who passed through his doors were greeted with a warm smile, his trusty salute and a hardy handshake as only given in classy "Add" style. For his love of sports especially his beloved Yankees, for the love of his work, piddling in the yard, listening to a good song, Add will be missed by all. To know him was to love him. Mrs. Smith was born in Balko and was a lifetime resident of Beaver. Amarillo Globe-News, June 23, 2002 Elsewhere James Morris Dial PRESCOTT, Ariz. - James Morris Dial, 81, died Friday, June 21, 2002. Private memorial services will be held. Arrangements are by Rufner-Wakelin Funeral Home. Mr. Dial was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Antonito, Colo., the first of four children to Equilla and Tully Dial. He was raised in Amarillo. The economic hardship of the Depression required him to work full-time throughout his high school years to help support his mother and family. After graduation in 1939, he began a career with General Mills that would span 44 years. He married Maxine Dial in 1941. He entered the Army Air Corps soon after the beginning of World War II. He served in Fort Worth, San Antonio and the Philippines as an aircraft mechanic. During the war he developed mechanical skills that he would use for the rest of his life. He could build, install or fix anything. His years in the Army also inspired a love for flying that led him to earn a pilot's license and fly small planes in the 1970s. Following the war, he returned to Amarillo and his position with General Mills. His only son, Phillip Stephen, was born in 1948. In the late 1940s, he began a career in sales that took him through a succession of assignments in Amarillo, Albuquerque, N.M., Dallas, Jackson, Miss., and finally, Kansas City, Mo. His career with General Mills was a study in hard work and company loyalty, rising from a job sweeping floors and running errands to his final position as district manager, from which he retired in 1983. After retirement, he moved to Wichita, Kan., where he married Martha "Martie" Simmons in 1984. They moved to Prescott in 1986. The last 18 years have been the happiest of his life, as they enjoyed traveling in their RV, remodeling their home and enjoying their friends and families. He was an outgoing, personable and fun-loving man who never met a stranger. The skills that served him so well as a salesman made him a good friend, neighbor and the life of the party. He loved big band music and was a good dancer. His wonderful stories and colorful language were enjoyed by all, especially his son and grandsons. His regret over his lack of a college degree caused him to make education the highest priority in raising his son. Tempering a demand for excellence and an insistence on discipline with love, support and praise, he had a tremendous, positive impact on the life of his son. Survivors include his wife; a son, Philip Dial and wife, Christine, of Austin, Texas; Martie's children, Marcia Simmons and Don Simmons and wife, Carolyn, all of Englewood, Colo.; his brother, Bob Dial and wife, Virginia, of Tucson; two grandsons, Justin Dial of Atlanta and Evan Dial of Los Angeles; Martha's grandson, Luke Simmons and wife, Molly, of Chandler; and his lifelong best friend, Johnny Gray of Amarillo. Mr. Shelby was born March 10, 1941, in Hollis, Okla, to Vertner A. Shelby and Gay Daniel Shelby. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959 and attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. He moved to Lubbock from Houston in 1975. He married Letitia Ann Thomas on Dec. 31, 1965, in Louisville, Ga. He was a railroad engineer for BNSF for 30 years. He was a member of United Transportation Union, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, BNSF Safety Committee and Trinity Church. He was a veteran of the Army. Mr. Donnell was born March 9, 1964, to William Orville Donnell and Sharon (Young) Donnell in Amarillo. He grew up in Lubbock and attended Coronado High School, Texas Tech and the University of Central Oklahoma. His membership was at Calvary Baptist Church. He was an active volunteer in Texas Special Olympics and National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock. He worked at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Cox Communications. Deciding to further his education, he went back to school and in July was to complete his degree in medical transcriptions. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Curtis Young, Orville V. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Dana Moore, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home. Mr. Warner was born June 24, 1924, in Amarillo to John Henry Warner and Marie Adams. He attended Amarillo High School where he played football, making the all-star state team for two years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and was active in the Canyon Lions Club. He had perfect attendance at the Lions Club for 55 years. He married Jo Beth Rampy in Amarillo on Dec. 28, 1942, and she preceded him in death in 1999. He said, "When I get to heaven, I am going to kiss Jo Beth and run for a touchdown!" Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Noke of Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Jim Warner of Manhattan, Kan., and Jeff Warner of Powder Springs, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
