"Bill" Barton, 80, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Don Larkin, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Newalla, Okla., with military rites by Army personnel from Fort Sill, Okla. Mr. Barton was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Stella, Okla. He was a graduate of McLoud High School in McLoud, Okla., and attended Montana State University. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II, participating in five major European Theater campaigns. He had been a Pampa resident since 1957. He worked for Lane-Wells Co., Cabot Corp. and IRI International, retiring in 1983. He married Thelma Summers on March 25, 1943, in Harrah, Okla. He later married Geneva Dalton on March 22, 1997, in Amarillo. He was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association and past president of Texas Panhandlers Travel Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife on May 5, 1996. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Barton of Amarillo and Randal Barton of Piedmont, Okla.; a daughter, Joanie Lovelace of Mustang, Okla.; a stepson, Robert Dalton of San Angelo; a stepdaughter, Pat Winkleblack of Pampa; two brothers, Russell Barton of Newalla and Jim Barton of Newcastle, Okla.; a sister, Mildred Capps of McLoud; five grandchildren, Sheila Barton of Amarillo, and Jammie Lovelace, Tammy Lovelace, Kristen Barton and Melissa Barton, all of Mustang; seven stepgrandchildren, Paula Winkleblack, Tommy Winkleblack and Shona Rose, all of Amarillo, Mandy Mitchell of Panama City, Fla., and Robert Dalton Jr., Robyn Swift and Ryan Dalton, all of San Angelo; and four step great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Herlin Summers officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Gilchrest was born on Nov. 17, 1937. He married Danna Davis on Aug. 25, 1996, in Clovis. Bell St. Mrs. Sumner was born July 30, 1920, in Hood County. She graduated from Shallowater High School and attended Texas Tech. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin D. Georgia St. Mr. McCullough was born in Elk City, Okla. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific and European Theaters. He married Nadine Moore in Sayre, Okla., in 1945. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. in Borger from 1947 until his retirement as administrative manager in 1982. He was a 50-year 32nd degree charter member of the Masonic Lodge in Borger. He had lived in Amarillo for the past 15 years and was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tim R. McCullough of Amarillo; a sister, Oleta Yagi of Brigham City, Utah; three nephews, Terry Robinson, Steve Robinson and Tom Yagi, all of Utah; numerous cousins; extended family members, Michael Todd Shields and Brent Shields; and an aunt, Eula Thornton of Erick, Okla. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Quail Creek Congregation. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Dowling was born March 6, 1929, in Earlsboro, Okla. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as an elder in local congregations. He owned and operated a television repair service for many years as well as several other businesses over the years. Hughes St. Mrs. Shaw was born in Sulphur Springs and was an Amarillo resident for more than 60 years. She was a member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Dow was a lifelong Oklahoma Panhandle resident. She was born April 15, 1907, in a dugout southeast of Guymon. Survivors include a daughter, Neva Iverson of Guymon; a son, Eldon Dow of Whitehouse, Texas; a sister, Alice Bratton of Guymon; and three grandchildren. Hobbs PORTALES, N.M. - Elvin T. "E.T." Hobbs, 80, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Portales Cemetery. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Hobbs was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Cisco County, Texas. He had been a Portales resident since 1959. Survivors include two sons, Tommy Hobbs of Clovis and Derald Hobbs of Portales; four daughters, Penny Drassie and Cynthia Etchepareborde, both of Portales, Carol Frazier of Oklahoma City and Doralene Braun of Hobbs; three brothers, Homer Hobbs of Portales, Glen Hobbs of Arkansas and Wiley Hobbs of Chickasha, Okla.; a sister, Ida Pearl Martin of Portales; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 5, 2002 Elsewhere Robert H. "Bob" Wright WICHITA FALLS - Robert H. "Bob" Wright, 62, formerly of Amarillo died Thursday, July 4, 2002. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rhea Raines of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park. Mr. Wright was born Jan. 5, 1940, in Mangum, Okla., to Stanley and Alice M. Anchuetz Wright. He graduated from Mangum High School in 1957, moved to Pampa for two years, then to Amarillo where he went to work for Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor in 1959. During his career he served as a local chairman for Local 1313. Later he was voted vice general chairman of United Transportation Union. He married Sue Black in Tucumcari, N.M., in 1980. They moved to Overland Park, Kan., from 1980-1983. He then moved back to Amarillo to care for ailing parents and to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed travel, boating, family, friends and most of all, his beloved grandchildren. He moved to Wichita Falls in late 1989 and made it his home. He helped establish the Redken Distributor Associate Store. He was forced to take disability and retire from all activities in 1994, when he began a lengthy battle with stomach cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Alice Wright; and a sister, Carol Jean Wright. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bryn Craig Wright and wife, Suzie, of Amarillo; a daughter, Rhonda L. King and husband, Mike, of Vernon; a brother, Stanley Wright Jr. and wife, Marcia, of Fort Worth; a sister, Betty Lou Faldlen and husband, Oscar, of Yukon, Okla.; a grandson, Michael King and wife, Carrie, of Vernon; a granddaughter, Tiffani "Princess" King of Vernon; a great-grandson, Michael Trevor King of Vernon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and family friends. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of Wichita Falls. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
