Mrs. Elliff was born in Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918, in Swisher County, the daughter of Virgil Lafayette Harman and Esther Valeria Matilda Bebermeyer Harman. She married J. Chester Elliff on Dec. 19, 1936, in Tulia. She went to school at Union Hill School and graduated from Canyon High School in 1934. She attended Canyon Normal College and Texas Technological College. She was in partnership with her husband in the operation of Victory Jersey Farm. They bred and developed registered Jersey cattle known and marketed worldwide. This dairy herd was recognized as outstanding in the nation for milk production and 1,000-pound butterfat records. The Elliffs were recognized as distinguished breeders by American Jersey Cattle Club and the dairy industry. They received the coveted MasterBreeder Award from the A.J.C.C. in 1958. She always had an open door for visitors and leaves a multitude of loving and devoted friends. Survivors include her husband; two sons, John H. and Gary P. of Tulia; five daughters, Catherine Hoodenpyle, Vicky Driskill, Lorene Cole and Dana Sullivan, all of Lubbock, and Becky Tucker of Tulia; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Otis Harman of Tulia; and a sister, Dorothy Donaldson of Farwell. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Earthman was born in Tamaqua, Pa., and married Clarke L. Earthman on Aug. 6, 1945. She graduated from Tamaqua Senior High School in 1939 and from Reading Hospital School of Nursing in Reading, Pa., in 1943. She worked as a nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital for 33 years. She spent five of those years in the newborn nursery and 28 years teaching pediatrics at Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from West Texas State University in 1974 and a master of science degree in nursing from University of Texas at Austin in 1979. She taught home and family living classes at Tascosa High School and prenatal classes at Northwest Texas Hospital. Since the death of her husband, she has been actively involved as an outreach volunteer for Widowed Persons Service, a local program reaching out to the newly bereaved. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 9, 1993. Survivors include a son, James Earthman of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda McIntosh of Canyon; four brothers, Franklin Loew, William Loew, Edgar Loew and Jack Loew, all of Pennsylvania; a sister, Elizabeth Pettiet of Houston; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bell St. Mr. Spurgeon was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Collin County, to Mary and Elmer Spurgeon. He graduated from Birdville High School. Following service in the Army during World War II, he graduated from Texas Christian University. He was employed by Internal Revenue Service for more than 30 years. He had previously been employed by American Gypsum and First National Bank of Tulia. He married Mary Caudle on Nov. 24, 1950, in Canadian. A resident of Amarillo since 1950, he was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Covenant Class Sunday School. His favorite pastime involved all aspects of railroads, especially traveling throughout North America and Europe. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994; and a daughter, Karen McCarthy in 1997. Waugh, 77, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 6, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. Pat J. Kennedy of St. Luke Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Waugh was born to Harry and Ruth Waugh in Burlington, Iowa, in 1925. He worked at Waugh Brothers Sporting Goods Store for his father and uncle during the summers. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1943. He was drafted in the Army and served his country as a medic in the infantry during World War II. He returned home in 1946 and began college at Iowa State University. He graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and began work at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the weapons division. He married Dolores Oliphint Wright at Amarillo in 1976. He retired from Los Alamos after 40 years. In 1991, they moved to Amarillo and he became the first on-site representative at Pantex working for the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board out of Washington, D.C. His family will remember him as a kind, compassionate, wise man of few words. "We will miss you PA." He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Jamie Wright. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home of Sherman. Mr. LaBoon was born April 2, 1933, in Ellis County, the son of Arthur Patrick LaBoon and Claudia Miller LaBoon. The family lived in Plainview before moving to Quay County, N.M., where they lived for many years. He was a true westerner. He spent many years in Quay County helping on the ranch his great-uncle, Hugh Miller, homesteaded in the 1800s. He worked on many area ranches doing what he loved, riding the range, a real cowboy. He worked for Day Manufacturing Co. in Sherman for many years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Survivors include a son, Arthur Garland LaBoon and companion, Sonya Cavallin, both of Sherman; and many cousins. She graduated from Hereford High School and attended West Texas State Teachers College. She married Wilford "Buddie" Taylor Jr. in the Jumbo community in 1934. She was active in her children's school activities and was a world traveler. She was a member of Eastern Star, Murray Bible Class and First United Methodist Church of Canyon. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; and a daughter, Edwyana Taylor in 1937.
