Nicholson, 73, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Dumas with Michael Nixon and Ronnie Bollinger officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. in Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Okla., by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. Nicholson was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Holly, Colo. He married Jo Ann White on Sept. 19, 1957, in Amarillo. He had lived in Dumas for more than 50 years and worked for Phillips Petroleum for 40 years as a field operator. He enjoyed western art and painted excellent portraits and horses, and was very talented at woodworking and building furniture. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenda Bollinger of Dumas; a son, Tony Nicholson of Dumas; two sisters, Gwen Lechenby of Vici, Okla., and Ardell Gann of Woodward, Okla.; a brother, Wendell Nicholson of Arlington; and six grandchildren, Tony, Jack, Cody, Timothy, Tera and Amber. Mrs. Barley was born July 11, 1934, in Sasawka, Okla. She was a Dumas resident since 1951. She worked in the maintenance department at the Postal Service in Dumas for five years. She married Paul R. Barley on May 26, 1952, in Charleston, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 24, 2000; her parents; three sisters, Alma, Mollie and Betty Jo; and two brothers, Sonny and W.J. She was a member of Amarillo Baptist Church. She married Branch T. Archer on Dec. 29, 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 7, 1995; and a daughter, Dr. Evangeline Archer in Houston, on July 8, 1995. Amarillo Globe-News, July 12, 2002 Sherrie Louise Fowlkes Cates Sherrie Louise Fowlkes Cates, 72, of Amarillo died Monday, July 8, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Cates was born in Amarillo on June 25, 1930, to Noble R. and Peggy Fowlkes. She lived in Amarillo for 71 years. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948. She married Roy E. Cates Jr. in 1951. She was active in PTA, Canyon Band Parents Group and Canyon Eagles Booster Club. She served as a recruiter, counselor and trainer for the Llano Estacado Council and served on the committee of Boy Scout Troop 86. Three of her sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout, one life scout and one star scout. She served 25 years as a den leader and den leaders coach. She organized the first Cub Scout day camp, Camp Akela, and served as camp director for the first four years. She had Wood Badge training. She was awarded the Den Leader Award, Den Leader Coach Award and numerous Award of Merit plaques. She was the first woman in the Llano Estacado Council to receive the Silver Fawn for her outstanding dedication in scouting. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978. Survivors include five sons, Noble Cates of Stevensville, Md., Dr. Ron Cates of Athens, Jeff Cates of Amarillo, Ken Cates of Albuquerque, N.M., and Greg Cates of Fort Worth; a sister, Donna Heitmiller of West; and 13 grandchildren. He was a member of Casa View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Nellie Porter, and a daughter, DaNell Mitte.
