He was a member of Pinnacle Community Church. He was a member of National Rifle Association. He was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, Preston. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Caddo Cemetery in Caddo, Okla., by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Cochran was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Caddo, Bryan County, to Dr. Roy L. and Maudie Holmes Cochran. He graduated from Caddo High School in 1949, attended Southeastern State College, Murray State College and earned a chemical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Germany in the field artillery counter-mortar radar. He married Gaylia Rackley on Aug. 31, 1956, in Kenefic, Okla. He was a certified safety professional and Texas State Board of Insurance representative. He was a lifetime member of American Society of Safety Engineers and served as president and held other offices. For 32 years he worked for Texas Employers Insurance Co. of Texas. At the time of his death he was a safety control consultant for Texas Association of School Boards and served many school districts in the Texas Panhandle. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He was an advocate for Amarillo Youth Choirs and Troop 86 Boy Scouts of America, of which his grandson was a member. He and his wife accompanied the youth choir to Europe on a concert tour and chaperoned many Boy Scout activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy Len Cochran and Dr. Bryce Holmes Cochran; and two nephews. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Southern was born to Ed and Inez Hess Rodgers in Amarillo on Oct 4, 1911. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1930 and business college. She moved to Borger in 1937, where she worked for Borger Power and Light. She was in the Women's Army Corp from 1942 to 1943. She married Stephens "Steve" Southern in 1956 in Amarillo. She transferred to Southwestern Public Service and worked there until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Susana Wesley Sunday School Class, Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary, Beta Sigma Phi, currently Texas Gamma Phi Master Chapter. She delivered Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Thomas Southern; and a brother, William L. "Bill" Rodgers. She worked for the Amarillo Independent School District for 14 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; and a son, Charles A. Braddock in 1998. Bell St. Mr. Shoemaker was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Godley and moved to Amarillo in 1958. He worked most of his life in the auto repair industry. He served in World War II as a Navy deck gunner on the USS Colorado. A disabled veteran of the Navy, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart for combat injury. He and his wife, Marion, were married 47 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Windmill Sams, Wheel a Go Go and DAV Chapter 26. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Case Harlow; two brothers; and a sister. She married Ivan Merritt in 1975 at Tulia. They moved to Baton Rouge, La., in 1978. She was employed as a legal assistant for Taylor Porter for 17 years. She moved to Amarillo in August 1999. She was employed as a graphic designer for Et Cetera in Wolflin Village. She was involved with Tascosa High School Football Booster Club, where she was lovingly known as "Aunt Nance." She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Amarillo and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was a gifted pianist and played for several churches and civic organizations. She also accompanied many children's choirs. Her courage was an inspiration to many and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
