Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Edgewood Cemetery in Crystal City. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mrs. Kelley was born Oct. 18, 1903, in Bryan, to Eugene Hardy Suber and Alivia Buchanan Suber. After graduating from Mary Hardin Baylor College, she went to Crystal City to teach school. She married Harold L. Harkey in 1925 and they made their home in Crystal City where they raised their children. She was a homemaker and a teacher at Crystal City High School for many years. She was active in her teaching professional organizations and very devoted to her churches, First United Methodist Church in Crystal City and First Baptist Church in Bryan. She had been a resident of Palo Duro Nursing Home since December 2000. She dedicated her life to her family and friends. After her husband's death in 1971, she moved back to the family home in Bryan. She later married Ira Kelley. She was preceded in death by her first husband; her second husband in 1989; a son, Harold Harkey Jr. in 2000; and a grandson, Wayne Harkey in 1999. Survivors include a son, Tom Harkey and wife, Joyce, of Claude; a daughter-in-law, Annette Harkey of Crystal City; a sister, Eugenia McNeil of Austin; five grandchildren, Joyce Winn and husband, Pete, of Uvalde, Hal Harkey and wife, Lynne, of Bryan, Martin Harkey of Crystal City, Gary Don Harkey and wife, Betsy, of Vernon and Joyce Lynn Grange and husband, Chad, of Claude; nine great-grandchildren, Ron, Melissa, Michael, Matt, Tommy, Chris, Logan, Mindi and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity or church. The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Boxwell Brothers Claude Chapel. Private burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mrs. Sinclair was born May 21, 1911, in Roger Mills County, Okla. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, James Sinclair of Plainview and John Sinclair of Salinas, Calif.; two daughters, Laveda Campbell of Pasadena, Calif., and Frances Griswold of West Monroe, La.; two sisters, Thelma Williams of Plainview and Alta Trussell of Weatherford; a brother, Calvin Williams of Pottsboro; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Garrison was born April 1, 1943, in Tulia. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Tulia. Survivors include a brother, Tom Garrison of Tulia; two nieces; and a nephew. Mr. Melendez was born April 15, 1925, in Harlingen. He had been a Dumas resident for 27 years. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He retired from Fish Construction in 1987. He married Enedelia Garza on May 29, 1969, in Laredo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Parra of Chicago and Fernando Hernandez of Dumas; two grandchildren; and a niece, Teresa Rodriguez of Harlingen. The family will be at 1004 S. Mrs. Swearingen had worked many years as a bookkeeper for the Silver Grill restaurant. She was a member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Jack Banks of Lubbock, Texas, and Keith Banks of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Linda Engelhardt of Lompoc, Calif.; a brother, Glen Dillard of Brookings, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Gerry Johnson and Geane Modersohn, both of Clovis; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Georgia St. with Kurtis Spidel of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Buchanan was born in Indian Territory on June 21, 1927, and grew up in Turkey. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He married Billie Stafford in Hedley in 1947. He worked in the oil fields of the Panhandle. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994. Survivors include four daughters, Janice Willis and Peggy Bellar, both of Amarillo, Tommie Jo Buchanan of Lubbock, and Shirley Boccio of Coventry, R.I.; a son, Kenneth Buchanan of Sommerville, S.C.; a sister, Marie Hicks of Marietta, Okla.; a brother, Porter Buchanan of Marietta, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Bailey Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 S. Virginia Circle. Mr. Bailey was the former president and chief executive officer of Plains Machinery Co., a Texas-based heavy equipment company founded in 1925 at Plainview and later headquartered in Amarillo. He joined Plains in 1957 and was named executive vice president in 1969. The privately held corporation was acquired by Pioneer Corp. in 1969. Mr. Bailey was named president in 1975. As one of the largest heavy equipment distributors in the nation, Mr. Bailey directed the company's multimillion-dollar operation from corporate headquarters then located at 1012 W. 10th Ave. Branch sales and service facilities were located in Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Houston, Longview, Lubbock, Odessa and San Antonio, covering 248 of the 256 Texas counties. Plains specialized in the sales of heavy construction, surface mining and road-building equipment. Mr. Bailey traveled extensively to develop export markets for heavy equipment and to assist in developing exports of Texas products. He participated in export trade missions initiated by then-Lt. Gov. William Hobby. He met privately with the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in Cairo to discuss export trade relations with Egypt and later met with other officials of Middle Eastern governments. In 1983, he announced Plains' participation in a $25 million joint venture with Mannesmann Demaq of Duisburg, West Germany, and Texas Utilities of Texas to test new surface mining equipment systems. After 26 years with the company, Bailey resigned as chief executive officer in 1983 to pursue other business interests. In 1987, the company was sold by Pioneer Corp. to Dresser Industries' Waukesha-Pearce subsidiary. Mr. Bailey was appointed in 1971 by then-Gov. Preston Smith to the nine-member board of regents of Texas State Technical Institute to fill a position formerly held by the late F.V. Wallace, mayor of Amarillo. Mr. Bailey was also a member of the board of directors of the Texas Good Road Association. He was a 1943 graduate and football standout at Vernon High School where he first received the nickname "Snake" for his running and catching exploits on the football field and also in basketball. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1944. Following military service, he enrolled at Texas Christian University in 1946 where he earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education. He later completed specialized studies in the executive management program at Stanford University. He was honored by TCU as an Outstanding Alumni. At TCU, Mr. Bailey gained Southwest Conference fame as the receiving half of the "Berry-to-Bailey Battery" with fellow player Lindy Berry, under legendary TCU football Coach L.R. "Dutch" Meyer. He also was named two-time All Southwest Conference end and set a school record for most pass receptions in one game with 12 catches in a game against Oklahoma A&M in 1949. He ranked eighth in the nation in pass receiving. Mr. Bailey played a year in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos before returning to Texas. He was inducted into the TCU Sports Hall of Fame in 1974. At TCU, Mr. Bailey met his future wife, Martha Tull of Amarillo. They were married in 1950, and lived in Dumas before moving to Amarillo. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2000. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Amarillo Country Club. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bailey of Vernon. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Ann Marie Bailey of Amarillo and Karen Bailey Pettigrew and husband, Forrest, of Austin; a son, Tull E. Bailey and his wife, Nikole, of Fort Worth; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Bailey Pettigrew and Sam Thomas Pettigrew, both of Austin, and Emily Ann Bailey and Hannah Marie Bailey, both of Fort Worth.
