Smith, 79, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Jordan Mills and the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Smith was born April 29, 1923, in Hedley. He was a Dumas resident all of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served on several building committees as the church grew. He was a member of Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Dumas Noon Lions Club and served on the Moore County Hospital Board for 25 years, during a time when Memorial Hospital was built and expanded several times. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1941. He married Jewell Ivey on Sept. 9, 1944, in Hedley. He was a farmer/rancher in the Middlewell Community for 38 years and retired in 1980. He possessed a great sense of humor, never met a stranger and had many loving friends. He has left a place in our hearts that can never be filled. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Eddy B. Smith. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth J. Smith and wife, Marilyn, of Conroe, and Michael Smith and wife, Deborah, of Amarillo; a daughter, Debrah Albracht and husband, David, of Amarillo; four granddaughters, Nakia Oates of Plano, Kelly Smith of Amarillo, Nikki Smith of Austin and Amanda Smith of The Woodlands; three grandsons, Cody Smith of Amarillo, Chad Smith of Dumas and Sean Leinhart of Conroe; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Gilchrest was born April 18, 1965. He was a lifelong resident of Memphis and was a carpenter. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, and the Rev. Roger Orr, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Lewis was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Ochiltree County. She was a Dumas resident since 1956. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She attended West Texas State and was a teacher in Lipscomb County. She was also a substitute teacher in the Dumas schools for many years. She married Ted Lewis on Aug. 9, 1947, in Perryton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; a grandson, Joshua Lewis in 1975; five sisters; and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Larsen and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; a son, George Lewis and wife, Ineze, of Dumas; five grandchildren, Casey Torisk and husband, Toby, of Dumas, Marissa Beals and husband, Matt, of The Colony, Phillip Larsen of Snohomish, Wash., Stewart Larsen of Houston and Valerie Barnett and husband, Don, of Plano; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be at 2 p.m. (MDT) Thursday in San Jon Cemetery in San Jon, N.M. Mrs. Vigil was born in San Jon. She lived in Tucumcari, N.M., until 1966 and moved to Amarillo in 1978 from Albuquerque, N.M. She worked as a psychiatric nurse for the Veterans Administration from 1966 until her retirement in 1980. She married Luis Vigil in 1947 at Tucumcari. She was an avid bingo player and doll collector. The family will miss the jelly and hot sauce that she made. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Ruben Vigil in 1970. Mr. Halsey was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Hollis, Okla. He has lived in Amarillo most of his adult life. He married Johnnie Blevins on Oct. 1, 1947, in Amarillo. He served in the Navy. He owned and operated several businesses during his lifetime, including H&H Music and the Bait and Cast Club. He was an avid fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed telling jokes and long stories. Survivors include his wife; a son, Stevan Halsey of Canyon; and three granddaughters. Osage St. Miss Patterson was born in Wichita Falls and moved to Amarillo in 1988. She was a sophomore at Randall High School. She was active in choir. She was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. She had been a cheerleader in Kids Inc. for six years. She was on the basketball and track teams. She sang solos at family weddings and loved music. Amarillo Globe-News, July 23, 2002 Bertha Lee Parker TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Bertha Lee Parker, 93, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, in Canyon, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Witcher, minister of First Christian Church of Tucumcari, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Daughter of a pioneer ranching family, Ms. Parker was born Nov. 28, 1908, on a ranch in Quay County, to Sanders Ewell and Myrtle Peggram Parker. She began her formal education at age 5, riding to a one-room school on a horse behind her older sister, Ivy. The girls and younger brothers lived with their grandmother in Tucumcari to complete elementary school and in Canyon to attend high school. She studied home economics at West Texas State University where she earned her bachelor's degree and graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a master's degree in physics. She taught one year at Farwell, Texas and one year at Porter. She taught at Tucumcari High School for 40 consecutive years. For most of those years, she was student council sponsor and ticket taker at all sports events and tutor and counselor to any student having difficulty. She walked to work twice a day. In her 70s, she was called back to teach calculus for a semester. During summers, she took university courses, cooked for brother Otis' hired hands in Texas, cared for sick relatives and traveled worldwide with sister, Ivy. The sisters retired to Austin in 1973, spending several months each year in Tucumcari and traveling. They later moved to Palo Duro Village in Canyon. She was a lifetime member of American Association of University Women and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was active in First Christian churches of Tucumcari and Canyon, and University Christian Church in Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dr. Ivy M. Parker; and three brothers, J. Otis Parker, Ira Parker and D. Roy Parker. Survivors include a brother, Aaron S. Parker; nine nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and hundreds of appreciative, mathematically competent former students. Mr. Lallement was born Aug. 1, 1939, to O.C. and Gertrude Lallement in Perryton, Texas. He graduated from West Texas State University and worked as a certified public accountant in Texas and New Mexico. Survivors include his wife, Kathie; a daughter, Damaris Homen and husband, Larry; two sons, Michael Lallement and Jon Lallement; three grandchildren, Dean Homen, Andrew Homen and Meghan Homen; two sisters, Dana Nimmo and Jean Mills; and two stepsons, Shane Francis and Jeffrey Francis.
