She attended Canyon schools through the eighth grade and then became a Happy Cowgirl. She was active in Happy Cowgirl basketball, cross country and was sophomore class vice-president, president of FFA and homecoming flame queen. She was a regional qualifier in golf. She was a member of Randall County 4-H and was active in stock shows. She was affiliated with First Baptist Church of Happy and Methodist Church youth groups. She was a free spirit and surely will be missed. Dickson Sr. on Dec. 7, 1941, "Pearl Harbor Day." They were married 61 years. She was a school teacher for many years in Hedley, Groom and Panhandle. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Panhandle, the Living Bible Class, church choir, Texas Classroom Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, The Alturian Club where she was past president, 55+ Club, Meals on Wheels and the Life Enrichment Council in Panhandle. She was a member of Panhandle Good Times Band who entertained in many area nursing homes. She and her husband were lifetime members of USS Tennessee BB41 Association from World War II. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Botts was a resident of Amarillo since 1932. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and was very active in Gleaner's Sunday School Class. For many years, she furnished the flowers for the church altar from her beautiful gardens. She enjoyed lots of bridge playing, gardening, attending Amarillo Little Theatre and dining out with her friends. She had another grandbaby on the way. She recently went to stay with family in Oklahoma City and was at her daughter and son-in-law's home at the time of her death. She was a gracious lady, a true friend and a most wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all. The family would like to express special thanks to Odyssey Hospice and Dr. Jerry Rhodes of Oklahoma City and to Helen Kilpatrick and Maxine Faulkner of Amarillo for their loving kindness to our "Mom." Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Putman was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother. She was devoted to her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband after retirement and often took the grandchildren with them. After her mother's death in the flu epidemic in 1916, being the second oldest daughter in a family of six children, she kept the house and cared for the family. She married in 1929 and moved to Amarillo in the middle of the depression. She raised a daughter and was very involved in her granddaughters' lives. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bailey Putman in 1981; a sister, Anna Mae Blair; and two brothers, Leonard Liedtke and Elmore Liedtke. Survivors include a daughter, Willa Dufur of Amarillo; a brother, Glen Liedtke of Gainesville; a sister, Wilhelma Wooten of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Janet Thorne and husband, Ronald, and Cheryl Ince, all of Amarillo, and Terri Vaughn and husband, Darrell, of Crowley; and four great-grandchildren, Aaron Thorne and wife, Kerre, of Dallas, Lindsey Thorne and Emily Ince, both of Amarillo, and Misty Vaughn of Crowley. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; two brothers, Benny Lopez and Rudy Lopez; and two sisters, Angelina Lopez and Julia Espinosa. Mr. Hardin was instrumental in her getting her first job at the AAA office at Hemphill County Courthouse. She worked for civil service for six and a half years at Barksdale Field in Shreveport, La., at Kirkland Field in Albuquerque, N.M., and for Standard Oil and Phillips Petroleum Co. of Amarillo. She married Carlton W. Hakes in Albuquerque in 1942. She was a member of West Amarillo Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Madeline Crosier and Roberta Willmoth Hill; and a brother, Woodrow Willmoth.
