Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church in Tulia with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, and the Rev. Ernie McGaughey, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Dr. Burgess was born in Canyon on Sept. 7, 1953. He was a family practice and emergency room doctor. Survivors include three sons, Dustin Craig Burgess of Tyler, Devin Scott Burgess of Merchant Marine Academy Kingsport, N.Y., and Donovan Brian Burgess of Tyler; his parents, David and Mary Burgess of Tulia; and a brother, Don Layton Burgess of Flower Mound. Visitation will be at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. Friday until service time at Wallace Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Grantham was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Kress to William H. and Geneva Hamilton Bridgeman. She married Jesse L. Grantham on July 15, 1939, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Dalhart in February 1968. She had worked at Coon Memorial Nursing Home for more than 17 years. She had devoted much of her life providing care for others. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Lincoln Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Jeri Dale; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers. On June 3, 1969, he married Shirley Ann Raper in Plainview. He started his career as a hospital administrator in 1957 at Bexar County Hospital District in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his first wife Laura Timmons in 1995. Mrs. McGibbon moved from Missouri in a covered wagon with her parents and sister to Oklahoma. She graduated from Shattuck High School. She graduated from business school in Wichita Falls. She and her husband owned and operated McGibbon Oil Co. She was active in AARP. She attended Handley Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Goode; a sister Ella Lois; and her husband, Glen Edward McGibbon in 1973. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Bayside Chapel with Bron Forrester, chaplain, officiating. Mr. Pfeiffer was a native of Amarillo. He retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer with 20 years service. Survivors include a daughter, Ivy T. Kline of Virginia Beach; two sons, August Earl Pfeiffer Jr. of Norfolk, Va., and Tony D. Pfeiffer of Virginia Beach; four brothers; and six grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2002 Robert Charles Flynt SAN ANTONIO - Robert Charles Flynt, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002. Services will be at 7 p.m. today in Porter Loring Mortuary North. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia. Mr. Flynt was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Tulia, Swisher County. He graduated from high school in Tulia in 1935. After attending Texas A&M, he trained as a watchmaker in Elgin, Ill., at Elgin Watchmaker College. While working in the jewel business in Midland, he was in a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored contest for aviation ground school. He made the top grade in ground school and won free flying lessons. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received additional flight training at Fort Sam Houston and in Tulsa, Okla., at the Spartan Air Force Training Detachment. He received his wings in Victoria. After advanced fighter training in Florida he was sent to Africa to fly P-39s, flying 17 missions. He also flew P-38s, P-51s and B-17s in Europe, flying 25 bombing missions and numerous fighter escorts. He was a member of the 37th Fighter Squadron. After returning from the war, he married and had two daughters. He opened his own jewelry business in Carlsbad, N.M. He retired from the jewelry business in the late 1970s. He continued to be active in business, directing his own investments until shortly before his death. He came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1976. He was one of a kind, a faithful friend and a good Samaritan. He wanted to store his treasure in heaven. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Ann Gage of Tulsa and Susan F. Keith of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Heather Beard and D'Artagnan Beard, both of San Antonio, and Micah Gage and Jaime Reynolds, both of Tulsa; and three great-grandchildren. Osage St. Mrs. Estes was born in Quanah and graduated from Quanah High School as salutatorian. She married James L. Estes in 1937 at Quanah. She had lived in Amarillo for 50 years. She was a homemaker and did volunteer work for Heritage Convalescent Center for 30 years. She was a member of the ladies Bible class at San Jacinto Church of Christ. She and her husband were longtime members there. She was preceded in death by a brother, V.W. Kelley, in 1959. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Mrs. Cheatheam was born Jan. 12, 1909, in Childress to Bay and Ruby Odell Simmons, early pioneers who farmed in Shores Creek. She spent most of her life in Childress moving to Amarillo in 1955. She was a loving and beloved mother, grandmother and friend to all. Children, especially, were drawn to her. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin T. "Chuck" Cheatheam; a daughter, Ruth Bell; a grandson; a brother; and a sister. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Noon and Dorothy M. King, both of Amarillo; a sister, Gladys Cromer of San Antonio; five grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
